AUGUST 14 Newsletter Page 2 P R E S I D E N T S M E S S A G E August is Use the Club Month. What are you going to do for the rest of summer now that vacations have come and gone? Buy clothes? No. Watch TV? No. Since this is the Club newsletter, the obvious answer to that question is: utilize your Club membership. There s still time to enjoy the pool in the mornings when it s cool, in the heat of the day or in the evenings to unwind. Then there is the I m tired of cooking August respite. Why cook at home when you can enjoy the great lunch or evening specials that Bill and Chef Paul devise? Plus there s no telling who you might run into at the Club allowing you to re-connect with friends you haven t seen much since summer started. Then, there s always golf. It s not too late to sharpen your game for the annual Club Championship. Take some lessons or just spend some time working on your short game. Be the surprise player of the year and come from out of nowhere and win your flight. Wow, what fun that would be! Caution, Danger Zone! We ve had several reports of near misses by cars and golf carts at the crossing on Par Drive going to the 1 st Tee Box. Most cases involved golfers sheepishly waving sorry after they forgot to stop and look both ways before crossing the street. Please don t be the topic of Club discussion by running the stop sign and getting clobbered by a car or truck. Now that the 41 st Maumelle Classic is in the record books, we salute those members who either served as a volunteer or filled the spectator gallery. Thank you for your time, service and effort to support this great Arkansas golf tournament. We also salute the players who chose to compete is our event. Seeing the smiles on victorious player s faces as they finish and the Champion as he dons the green jacket makes the entire event priceless. Last, but not least, we thank Metro Appliance and all the other sponsors for their contributions in making this special event possible. Happy Hour Tues. Fri 5-7pm 10% Off Drinks Tues. Night Family Night Kids Eat Free w/ Adult Entrée And thank you for being a Maumelle Country Club member. Ken Newton President - MCC F RO M YO U R C L U B H O U S E M A N A G E R July was such a great month with awesome weather and a nice buzz around the clubhouse. We are always ready for a slow down because of vacations and other events, but the club seems to kept its steam going with many of the newer members showing up to use the facilities. Some for the first time. Make sure you take a minute to welcome the new faces and get to know them. There is a ton of summer left and we hope everyone will come enjoy some of the daily specials, evening specials and Mixed Grill events that we are putting together for the month of August. There will be a Wine and Beer tasting this month, Trivia Night returns the third Wednesday and when football starts up (yeah, it's almost here) we will pick a weekend and have a tailgate/chili cook off for everyone to bring their best dishes to compete for top prize. Keep you eyes on your emails because we are always adding new events as the month goes by and you don't want to miss one. If you are not getting the emails, send me a request and I'll add you to the members list to keep you informed. See you at the club! Bill Wallace Clubhouse Manager

AUGUST 14 Newsletter Page 4 2014 Maumelle Classic Champion Congratulations to Noah Tullos for capturing his first green jacket. He birdied the second hole in the sudden death playoff to win the 41st Annual Maumelle Classic.. Congrats to our Mid-Senior, Senior, and Super-Senior Champs as well. Mid Senior Champ - Tracy Harris Senior Champ - Stan Lee Super-Senior Champ - Bill Jett The Classic Committee is aware that we take the course away from you for three days. However, we hope that you are well aware of having this tournament at such a prestigious, challenging golf course is what makes it the premier golf event it is. The participants and gallery are always paying such great2251 compliments to the course and the people who volunteer. Without all of the members who have worked on the course to prepare it, during the tournament to keep it running without any problems, and after play to make our guests feel welcome.it would not be the Classic. We cannot possibly thank everyone involved enough and hope that more and more members will want to join in to help it become even bigger and better in 2015. Roland Anderson and his sidekick, Randy, are the best golf starters there are and we hope the PGA doesn t snatch them away someday. The Crème of the Top of the Weekend was all the hard work Gib Carpenter did with the electronic score board. What an impressive venue. Thanks for all of your hard work and with the help of your able assistant, Sandy! And last but not least, Metro Appliances and More Todd Krauser and Eddie Craven the foundation that has helped this tournament grow as much as it has and will continue in the future. Be sure to thank them when you see them. If you notice something we can improve on, please contact Cary and let him know, as we will be starting on 2015 s event in a couple of weeks. Thanks so much ~ Bill and Wanda Jett NOTICE Swimming pool parties are a great way to celebrate that special occasion!
