Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. for the rematch of the last two Big South Championship title contests. Last Time Out Avery Warley paced the Lady Flames with 18 points and 14 rebounds against High Point on Feb. 5. However, it was Devon Brown s blocked shot of Erin Reynolds attempted layup in the closing seconds which sealed Liberty s 58-57 triumph at the Vines Center. A Look Ahead Liberty will wrap up its three-game homestand Monday at 7 p.m., when Winthrop visits the Vines Center. The Lady Flames will try to complete a season sweep of the Lady Eagles during Liberty s annual WBCA Pink Zone contest. Lady Flames on TV Saturday s game will be broadcast LIVE on the Big South Television Network, including the Flames Sports Network, WSET/RTV Channel 13.2 and Fox College Sports Atlantic. His teams have averaged 24 victories per year, while becoming a regular fi xture in the NCAA Tournament. Green has accumulated a 278-91 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning percentage of.753. He ranked 10th all-time among NCAA Division I women s basketball coaches in winning percentage to begin the year, ahead of renowned coaching names like Rutgers Vivian Stringer, LSU s Van Chancellor and North Carolina s Sylvia Hatchell. More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament 10 times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more victories during nine of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the fi rst time in program history. Green has actually been to the postseason on 22 occasions as a women s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but one of the 22 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament. In 2009-10, Liberty made another trip to the Big Dance, despite fi elding a young team which featured only one senior. The Lady Flames fi nished the year with a 27-6 record and hoisted the Big South Tournament championship trophy for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and the 2009-10 Lady Flames were certainly no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an average of 13.9 caroms per game, leading the nation in the category. The Lady Flames have now been listed among the nation s top fi ve teams in rebounding margin for seven straight years. Liberty previously led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Lady Flames also ended the season ranked in the top 10 nationally for scoring defense (second, school-record 50.0 ppg), fi eld goal percentage (second,.482) and scoring margin (seventh, +17.2). A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty s career wins leader. The 2004-05 year was a special one on Liberty Mountain, for many reasons. A seniorladen Lady Flames team recorded upset wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the fi rst two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest national ranking to date, 21st (USA Today/ESPN). Green s track record shows he has the ability to meet those challenges. The Lady Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest during Green s tenure. The upset victory over No. 23 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty s fi rst win over a Top 25 team. His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a.913 (179-17) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with one or fewer setbacks seven times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

Led by 44 points from the sister combo of Monique (25 points) and Dominique Hudson (19), the Runnin Bulldogs came back from a 10-point defi cit to post a 71-64 win. Gardner-Webb became the fi rst visiting team to win at the Buccaneer Fieldhouse all season and has now won four straight road contests. An active defense and rebounding have been two keys to the Runnin Bulldogs success this season. Gardner-Webb ranks second in the Big South in steals (10.9 spg), blocked shots (5.1 bpg) and rebound margin (+3.4). The Hudson sisters, both 5-5 senior guards, have been the team leaders all season. Monique Hudson ranks fi fth in the Big South in scoring (13.3 ppg), fi rst in steals (3.0 spg) and second in assists (4.0 apg). Meanwhile, Dominique sits No. 9 in scoring (11.6 ppg), fi rst in assists (5.3 apg) and second in steals (2.8 spg). Underneath the basket, Old Dominion transfer Sierra Little provides a spark off of the bench. The 6-2 redshirt junior forward contributes 9.0 ppg and a team-high 6.9 rpg. The Coaching Matchup Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 12th season with the Lady Flames, and has led his team to 10 Big South titles. A fi ve-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns a 278-91 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South women s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.753) ranked 10th all-time among NCAA Division I women s basketball coaches at the season s outset. Green is 5-2 all-time against Gardner-Webb. Gardner-Webb is coached by Rick Reeves, who is 376-335 in his 21st season as a collegiate head coach and 103-94 in seven years with the Bulldogs. He served as Liberty s head coach from 1990-91 through 1998-99, leading the Lady Flames to a trio of Big South titles. A four-time Big South Coach of the Year, Reeves is 2-5 coaching against Liberty. Liberty-Gardner-Webb Series Notes Liberty is 5-2 all-time against Gardner-Webb, with all seven meetings coming during the past three seasons. The teams have split their two matchups at the Vines Center. The Lady Flames and Runnin Bulldogs have squared off in the Big South Championship title game each of the past two years, with Liberty winning both contests by a total of three points. In 2009-10, Gardner-Webb swept the regular-season series from Liberty, joining the 2006-07 High Point squad as the only Big South teams in the last 14 seasons to do so. This season, Liberty will attempt to return the favor by sweeping the teams regularseason series. Jelena Antic scored 16 of her career-high 22 points during the second half of the Lady Flames game at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 31, highlighting Liberty s 68-56 victory. The redshirt junior has a chance to become the fi rst Lady Flame since Katie Feenstra to average a double-double for an entire season. Feenstra posted 17.8 ppg and 10.3 rpg as a senior in 2004-05. In Good Company With 25 career double-doubles, Avery Warley is tied with Liberty Athletics Hall of Famer Elena Kisseleva for third place in program history. She is the longest-tenured assistant coach in program history, and has helped Liberty achieve considerable success. The Lady Flames have gone 188-59 during Stephens tenure, winning six Big South titles and making the Sweet 16 of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. However, Stephens has not been on the sideline since Liberty s 59-57 win at VCU on Dec. 21. She and husband Jesse had their fi rst child on Jan. 4. Matthew David Stephens was born at nine pounds, six ounces. Director of Operations Adam Deyo has temporarily stepped into Stephens coaching role, during her maternity leave. Deyo is also in his eighth season on Liberty s staff. International Flavor Sophomore Jelena Antic hails from Skopje, Macedonia and redshirt sophomore Tolu Omotola was born in London, England, giving Liberty international players on its roster for the 17th consecutive season. The last time the Lady Flames roster consisted solely of American-born players was the 1993-94 campaign. Every Carey Green-coached team at Liberty has featured at least one international player. Local Flavor Even though Jelena Antic was born in Macedonia, she played high school basketball at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va. She is one of four current Lady Flames who attended high school within 70 miles of the Liberty campus, joining Kylee Beecher (Hidden Valley), Devon Brown (Waynesboro) and Brittany Campbell (Brookville). Lack of Overtime Since a 64-62 overtime setback at High Point on Jan. 20, 2007, the Lady Flames have played 133 consecutive games without needing extra time. No current Lady Flame has played an overtime contest in college. By way of comparison, the Liberty men s basketball team has played nine overtime games since the Lady Flames last overtime action. The Lady Flames most recent overtime victory came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime. Liberty s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one. The Container is Half Full Liberty has shot over 50 percent from the fi eld in each of its last three games, helping the Lady Flames wins over Winthrop, Gardner-Webb and High Point. The Lady Flames are now 4-0 this season and 77-1 under head coach Carey Green when making at least 50 percent of their fi eld goals. Amazing Antic Sophomore Jelena Antic scored a career-high 22 points Jan. 31 at Gardner-Webb, including 16 in the second half alone. She shot 4-of-5 from the fi eld, 2-of-3 from threepoint range and 6-of-7 from the foul line during the second half, becoming only the second Lady Flame (also Devon Brown at Longwood on Jan. 14) to score 20 points in a game this season. Frazier Finds Her Touch Freshman point guard Emily Frazier does not shoot often, but she has been very accurate in recent weeks. She has made 24 of her last 30 free throws (80 percent) and 10 of her last 16 three-pointers (62.5 percent). Frazier hit both of her three-point attempts Jan. 29 at Winthrop, extending her current streak to four straight made triples. Breaking Down Brown Devon Brown enjoyed a remarkable second half Jan. 14 at Longwood, scoring 21 of her season-high 27 points during the fi nal 20 minutes of Liberty s 75-71 win. She scored 14 straight Liberty points over a span of 4:16 and notched the game s fi nal fi ve tallies, including a three-pointer with just 11.3 seconds left. The following are a few facts about her performance. -- No Lady Flame had scored 20 points in a game all season, before Brown scored 21 in the second half alone at Longwood. -- It was the most points in a half by a Liberty player since Nov. 25, 2007, when Megan Frazee tossed in 21 second-half points during a win at Xavier. -- Brown also fi nished the game with six rebounds and a career-high fi ve assists. She became Liberty s fi rst player with at least 25 points, fi ve rebounds and fi ve assists in the same game since Feb. 20, 1997. That day, Elena Kisseleva totaled 27 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists against UNC Greensboro. Painting a Masterpiece Liberty has outscored its opponent in the points in the paint category in 11 straight games, by an average of 16.5 ppg. The Lady Flames are 10-1 during the span. Halfway There? Seven times during this season s fi rst 22 games, the team that was leading at halftime of the Lady Flames contest failed to win. The Lady Flames were joined in the preseason Top 25 by fellow Big South Conference squad Gardner-Webb, which opened the year at No. 23. Two of Liberty s 2010-11 non-conference foes also appeared in the poll, with Creighton listed No. 20 and James Madison checking in at No. 3. Gonzaga, which advanced to the Sweet 16 of last year s NCAA Tournament, was ranked No. 1 to open the year, with Green Bay a close second. I Know What You Did Last Summer The Lady Flames had an eventful and enjoyable summer, highlighted by a trip to Israel spanning late May and early June. During the trip, Liberty competed in the international Friendship Games tournament and won the championship in dominating fashion. The Lady Flames went 5-0, winning their games by an average of 40.2 points per contest. Liberty defeated the Israel Under-20 National Team by an 82-58 count in the title game. Sophomore guard/forward Jelena Antic remained overseas while her teammates returned to the United States, and gained some additional international playing experience. Playing for Macedonia, Antic earned MVP honors in the U20 European Championship for Women Division B. For the tournament, Antic led all players in scoring (25.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.3 rpg), while ranking No. 2 in free throw percentage (.860), No. 3 in steals (3.2 spg), No. 5 in assists (3.3 apg) and No. 6 in blocked shots (1.2 bpg). Her top individual performance was a 25-point, 11-rebound, 7-assist outing versus tournament champion Great Britain on July 18.
