There are so many doves, they are considered a plague by locals primarily due to the damage they cause to crops such as corn, sorghum, and sunflowers. La Macarena lodge is strategically located in the province of Cordoba and is surrounded by three enormous roosting areas used by the eared dove. These doves breed between six to nine times per year, taking a break only in the winter months of May-July. THE SHOOTING A typical day begins at daybreak, with a hearty breakfast, followed by a drive to the hunting grounds where each hunter meets their helper (bird boy). This helper is responsible for keeping the shell pouch full, providing beverages, keeping track of the number of doves shot, and picking up the dead doves and the empty shells after the hunt. At lunchtime, we return to the lodge or estancia to enjoy an Argentine - style beef barbecue. A short nap or siesta follows or during summer a short swim to cool off, then back to the fields for an afternoon shoot until sunset. Afterwards, we return to the lodge where hors d oeuvres and drinks await prior to a delicious dinner served with local argentine wines. This is a family friendly hunt that everyone regardless of age will enjoy!! Recommended gear: Gloves Ear and eye protection Shoulder pad Sunscreen Insect repellant (depending on time of year) Camouflage or olive drab clothing Raingear SPECIES Some say Argentina is synonymous with doves.
