FRIDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2017 Head Master's BulletinPrep NewsJunior School News PDF Version SPORT Cricket vs St Aloysius After matches against Barker being cancelled due to extreme heat in the first round held after the holidays, the Trinity Cricket fraternity was looking to get the second half of the season underway with a solid round of performances against St Aloysius. Unfortunately for a good number of teams, this time around it was a thunderstorm in the afternoon that caused a number of matches to be cancelled. Let s hope for some normal weather this weekend when the boys line up against Waverley. There were a few matches that were able to be completed, and Trinity put up some solid performances. 1st XI
Trinity 275 defeated St Aloysius 101 Last week s fixture against the St Aloysius side saw the Trinity 1st XI execute a very clinical performance in all aspects of the game. Losing the toss Trinity were sent in to bat in which the men in green were able to take control. A strong start to the innings allowed Liam Scott (11We) and Mark Dedes (12St) to apply pressure on the Aloysius bowling cartel, dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground. The wicket of Dedes on 39 brought Tane Edmed (11Fo) to the crease to compile a well-made 46. The dismissal of Scott on 51 did not stop the deep batting line up of Trinity, allowing Matt Turner (11Ho) to play with freedom earning a well-made 65 and pushing the Trinity total to a more than formidable total of 275. The large score that Trinity put on did not deter them from executing their skills in the field. Liam Scott showcased his prowess with the ball picking up four wickets in the innings. He was ably backed up by the rest of the bowling attack with Brad Uglow (11He), Sebastian Buchanan (9Sc) and Vasi Macmillan (11Ho) all claiming wickets. These executed bowling plans accompanied with the high intensity in the field allowed Trinity to bowl the Aloysius batting out for 101. This is a great confidence booster as Trinity plan on creating history in claiming a CAS premiership. 10A Trinity 2-169 defeated St Aloysius 168 The 10As lost the toss and were asked to bowl on a very firm and fast track. The Trinity opening attack bowled with great speed and accuracy and troubled the St Aloysius batsmen. The bowlers were well supported in the field, with the entire team putting in the best catching and ground fielding performance of the season. St Aloysius were all out for 168 with Angus McDonald (10Sc) the pick of the bowlers with 4/23. Trinity s opening batting pair started well and set a good platform for Ritvik Dinesh (10Ke) to take charge of the contest. With some excellent cover drives and a great supporting partner in Blaise McKee (10Ar) the pair were able to chase down the St Aloysius total for the loss of only two wickets. Ritvik finished the innings desperately close to a maiden century (97 not out) and hopefully he will have the opportunity to achieve a century in the coming weeks. 8C Trinity 61 defeated St Aloysius 9/40 The 8Cs arrived at Hammond Park with a tough mission, to play against a team that only required 13-overs to reach the run total in their previous match. Trinity lost the toss and were sent into bat. This seemed like a great decision as St Aloysius kept the pressure on the batting line-up with wickets falling early. Fenn Hodgson-Yu (8WJ) withheld most of the pressure top-scoring with 31 runs. With a total of 61, Trinity knew they had to be tight in the field to be competitive. The Tarbox twins opened the bowling and it was clear that the leftarm, Leo Tarbox (8Du), and the right-arm, Asher Tarbox (8Du), combination caused problems for St Aloysius as they took a wicket each in their first over respectively, both batsmen having scored large totals in their previous match.
Max Santhiran (8He) filled in as Captain and Wicket-Keeper and showed great skills behind the stumps. Abhi Popuri s (8Sc) spin-bowling and Jack Henderson s (8Ta) dynamic fielding were some of the key highlights that kept the pressure on the batting-side. With the storm clouds gathering, Trinity showed great composure and urgency to get through their last five overs to win the match by 21-runs. Final score Trinity 9/61 defeating St Aloysius 9/40. A great team effort and what a game to obtain their first win!
