The Jefferson Shooter Official publication of The Jefferson State Shooting Association Inc. SEPTEMBER YOUR LOCAL SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION 2015 JSSA P.O. Box 7178 Klamath Falls, Or. 97602 HONOLULU PD TO DESTROY GUNS! The dullard city administration in Honolulu has decided to trash half a million dollars worth of operable firearms that could be sold as a revenue source for the always cash strapped police department. Like police departments countrywide funding is a continuing battle with few opportunities to raise money for vital law enforcement programs. Many departments do sell their retired weapons to gain funds and the sales are conducted through licensed dealers who then retail them to the law abiding citizens under strict federal and state regulations. Some city administrators who can t see past their reflection in a mirror whine and snivel about more guns being put on the street which is just another lie that they ignorantly use to justify their hatred of firearms. They either do not know the law. just ignore it or purposely lie to advance a political agenda something the gun control crowd does all the time. The mayor will not even permit officers to buy their own issued duty weapon and as ILA reports there are also some new guns in the box that will be scrapped. The $500,000 lost does not include the cost of destroying the pistols or the cost of obtaining new firearms for the PD. It just goes to show that gun controllers in positions of authority do not care how much of the taxpayers money they spend and get away with before they end up in jail or found their own gun control organization. CORNYN INTRODUCES BILL TO BLOCK VA ABUSE OF VETERANS! Senator John Cornyn has introduced S.2002 in the U.S. Senate that would prohibit the VA from violating veterans second amendment rights by forwarding their listing to the NICS system if they have a representative payee managing their financial matters. Currently the Obama administration and the VA have developed a process in which veterans are automatically listed in the NICS system as a person prohibited from possessing firearms if they have an appointed fiduciary. The listing does not provide for due process when denying a veteran his constitutional rights. The bill would provide due process protections of : a notice of a hearing, opportunity to participate and a right to counsel for any proposal to take away their rights. The bill also provides for relief to those (See VA pg 3) SURPRISE! SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF ISSUING CCW RERMITS! Sacramento county Sheriff Scott Jones and staff have approved 95% of the CCW applications filed with them. In a most unusual move for a California Sheriff Jones cites extreme budget cuts for the loss of 340 positions and fears the people are less safe. Therefore he has been issuing permits to law abiding citizens that satisfy the background check and training requirements on the application. All California Sheriffs should follow Sheriff Jones common sense permit process. Next meeting at Klamath County Museum 1451 Main St. September 16th 2015 6PM

I hope you get a reprieve from the heat wave and smoke today. Sad news from Florence. My Dear Wife Joan Marie has gone to the big shooting range in the sky. Our 43 year Honeymoon was joy beyond belief. Joan was beside me, supporting me and JSSA, throughout the 80 s and 90 s. Early on we had just the 200yd. rifle range and when we started PPC matches (NMSS at the time) Joan and I used a gasoline post hole digger and tamper to set up 20 4x4 posts each month. As XO I could not have supported the club as I did without her encouragement and muscle. Steel, PPC, Bowling Pins and CCW Classes would not have been what they were without her selfless contributions. In Florence for the past 11 years she has continued to encourage women, and men, to get a carry permit and take charge of their own security. Joan carried her Lady Smith and then a compact 40 S&W Glock on a daily basis most of the past 32 years without incident. She once shadowed a friend who was in some danger as a bodyguard. She told that story often for the rest of her days. After 30 years of Not smoking Joan had a short fight with a vicious lung cancer which she handled with Dignity and Grace. She leaves behind 10 living Children and 59 equally amazing Grandchildren. Larry, If you think it is appropriate, a note in the newsletter would be appreciated. Sincerely, Bill Mason (The above letter was sent to Larry Watson who forwarded it to me) 2 Bill Watson has some Ramshot Tac 5 for sale in 5 lb jugs $75. He also is selling some Winchester primers for $145 a sleeve of 5,000 in assorted types. * The monthly raffle was won by Erick Bishop who chose 3 boxes of 30-30 ammunition from the table and Al Smith picked a shooters box size trauma kit. It has been learned that our gun show gun check guy Ben Vanderziel has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Please contact Ben to wish him well in the treatment of the condition. 5142 Harlan Dr. K.F. 97603. *** The Jefferson State Shooting Association is now a CMP affiliate after approval an application filed by Scott Anderson and Erick Bishop. For many years in the past we were represented by the Oregon State Shooting Association and were eligible to purchase CMP M-1 Garands and other surplus military firearms and to host high power clinics by CMP instructors. The affiliation should shorten the process for those that wish to purchase a surplus firearm or ammunition. The JSSA youth shooters award dinner will be on Sept 26 at the park at 6pm. The event seeks to recognize the youth club for accomplishments over the past year and is open to family and friends. A multi gun match will be held on the Wickline 600 yd range on September 13th at 9:30am. Match fee is $20 and you may contact either Josh or Jake for more information. Those able to assist in set up would be appreciated and it will take place a 2pm on Saturday and before the match at 8am on Sunday Wal-Mart will stop selling modern sporting rifles (AR-15 type) due to slow sales says their CEO. They instead will concentrate on hunting and fishing outdoor activities in their sporting goods departments.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 requires adjudication under the mental health provisions of the law with a finding that the person is a danger to himself and others before anyone can be deprived of their constitutional rights. Presently a determining factor for adding a vet to the NICS list is: lacks the ability to manage financial affairs. This criteria will be removed in the senators bill as it was also used in the attempt to ensnare millions of social security beneficiaries for the same purpose of stripping their second amendment rights from them. There were also other federal agencies entertaining doing much the same thing under an Obama directive. COWBOY STUFF: STORY OF A DQ. Howdy Pards. Got some computer issues so had to pull out the laptop. We had a visitor from Ohio named Prairie Dog shoot with us. This Hombre was pretty darn good and to top it off he is on the Dark Side. He had some really interesting cap and ball pistols he said the Mormon Avenging Angels used. 44 cal. with 3 or 3 1/2 inch barrels. What a blast watching him shoot those. As you can tell by his score he knows how to shoot them. If you are ever around Cleveland way stop in and shoot with him and his Posse. Hawkeye McCloud had a little bad luck and after shooting 10 clean rifle shots his pistol un holstered itself while running to his shotgun. If you haven't had a DQ you will. Keep those holsters tight and hold your pistols when your running. Hawkeye definitely knows the Cowboy Way and he worked his butt off picking up brass and counting the rest of the match. Hats off to you Pard. And many thanks to his awesome daughter, Kylie, ( I am sure I spelled that wrong) for doing the scoring for us. Hopefully she will be strapping on some holsters and joining in shooting before long. I see another set of guns being acquired by the family in the near future. Hope to see everyone the 13th of next month. YEEHAW! Jasper. ( Scores for the Aug 22nd match and others are posted on the website) 3

CONGRESSMAN WALDEN PROTECTING OUR RIGHTS! Our U.S. Congressman Greg Walden has signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 2710 a bill that will prevent a federal ban on 5.56 M855 ammunition along with 236 other members of the congress. The bill questions the authority of the government to ban this ammunition and avoid the public input process. The bill prevents arbitrarily reclassifying 5.56 and other common ammo, shotguns and shotgun ammo. Also provisions will ensure that firearms and ammo currently legal may continue to be imported. The Congressman also supported a provision that bans BATFE from using any funds for banning arms and ammunition in a funding bill already passed in the House. This funding bill also prohibits any funding for the Obama/Kerry U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, bans the collection of race or ethnicity data when buying a firearm, and prevents establishing a registry of multiple purchases of rifles and shotguns that Obama s BATFE started up after Newtown. Congressman Walden also cosponsored H.R. 986 the Concealed Carry Reciprocity act of 2015 that would permit persons with a concealed carry permit in one state to be recognized in any other state that permits concealed carry. Another piece of legislation supported by the Congressman is H.R. 2246 the Interstate Commerce Reform Act that will improve the legal firearm purchase process for our members of the military and remove confusing regulations that have been a nuisance with no purpose other than delaying law abiding citizens when purchasing firearms. (From Congressman Greg Walden s email of 8/12/15) All done! Jefferson State Shooting Association has purchased a small collection of rifle rated AR-500, 3/8 inch, steel targets. This was a cooperative effort between High Power, Multi-Gun and the club to provide targets for our expanding needs of our organization. The green hangers and brackets for the stands are designed to be self-healing if shot. They will also hold some bullet fragments so wear gloves when assembling and disassembling the frames and targets. The trailer was donated. It was designed for ATV use and has a short tongue. Use caution when towing behind your vehicle as tight corners might be problematic. Enjoy Erick 4
