Droplets of the product aspirated into the lungs through ingestion or vomiting may cause a serious chemical pneumonia. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect. Environment: Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. 4. FIRST-AID MEASURES Inhalation: Move injured person into fresh air immediately. Call an ambulance. Be aware that symptoms of lung oedema (shortness of breath) may develop up to 24 hours after exposure. Take along these instructions. Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothes and rinse skin thoroughly with water. In case of rashes, wounds or other skin disorders: Seek medical attention and bring along these instructions. Eye contact: Immediately flush with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open eyelids widely. If irritation persists continue rinsing and transport to hospital taking these instructions. Ingestion: Immediately rinse mouth and drink plenty of water or milk. Keep person under observation. Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, keep head low. Transport immediately to hospital and take these instructions.
2/ 6 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing media: Extinguish with carbon dioxide or dry powder. Cool containers exposed to heat with water spray and remove container, if no risk is involved. Specific hazards: By heating and fire, harmful vapours/gases may be formed. Vapours are heavier than air and may travel along the floor and in the bottom of containers. Vapours may be ignited by a spark, a hot surface or an ember. Protective equipment for fire-fighters: Use air-supplied respirator during fire fighting. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions: Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Do not smoke, use open fire or other sources of ignition. For personal protection, see section 8. Environmental precautions: Do not discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground. Methods for cleaning up: Absorb spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material. For waste disposal, see section 13. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Safe handling advice: Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Observe good industrial hygiene practices. Technical measures: Use work methods which minimise aerosol production. Avoid exposure to temperatures above the flash point. Technical precautions: Local exhaust is recommended. Provide easy access to water supply or an emergency shower. Technical measures for safe storage: No special precautions. Storage conditions: Store in tightly closed original container in a well-ventilated place. Store segregated from other chemicals (oxidizing agent).
3/ 6 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Engineering measures: Provide adequate ventilation. Observe Occupational Exposure Limits and minimize the risk of inhalation of vapours and spray mist. Chemical name: Exposure limits: Type: Notes: References: (2-Methoxymethylethoxy) 50 ppm 308 mg/m³ TWA-OES Sk EH40 propanol Cycloalkanes (>= C7) 800 mg/m³ TWA - EH40 Normal and branched chain alkanes (>= C7) 1200 mg/m³ TWA - EH40 Respiratory equipment: In case of inadequate ventilation and work of brief duration, use suitable respiratory equipment. Use respiratory equipment with gas filter, type A2. Hand protection: Risk of contact: Wear protective gloves. Nitrile gloves are recommended, but be aware that the liquid may penetrate the gloves. Frequent change is advisable. The most suitable glove must be chosen in consultation with the gloves supplier, who can inform about the breakthrough time of the glove material. Eye protection: Risk of splashes: Wear goggles/face shield. Skin protection: Wear apron or protective clothing in case of splashes. Hygiene measures: Wash hands after contact. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Environmental Exposure Controls: Demand for control of air pollution. 9.
