B I B L E S T O R Y R E V I E W BIBLE STORY REVIEW An activity that reviews the entire Bible story in a fun and interactive way allowing preschoolers that repetition they crave. Matthew 19:6, NIV CATCHING FISH Catching Fish is an activity that retells the Bible story while the children add the fish stickers to their paper. During the Activity: Retell the Bible story as kids point out Jesus and add fish stickers to the fish net. After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line. Before the Activity: We heard a great Bible story today about a time when Jesus was teaching a crowd of people by the water. A crowd means that there were a lot of people! During the Activity: Jesus was teaching the large crowd of people about how much God loves them and how Jesus wants to be their friend forever. The crowd was loving it so much that they kept getting closer and closer. Jesus had backed up as much as He could and now He was right on the edge of the water. The crowd wanted to be close to Jesus and did not want to miss anything He was saying! Jesus looked around and saw two fishing boats and some fishermen. Jesus called out to the fishermen who were cleaning their nets. Excuse Me! Can one of you guys take Me out in your boat? A fisherman named Simon and his other fisherman friends went out in the boat with Jesus. They rowed out a little ways and then the boat stopped a little bit from shore so Jesus could continue to teach the crowd from there. Jesus asked the fishermen to fish but Simon told Him that they had been fishing all night and didn t catch a single fish. Simon told Jesus we ve tried everything to catch fish Jesus, and we just CAN T do it! Curriculum Materials for -year-olds 015 Orange. All rights reserved. www.whatisorange.org PAGE 7

B I B L E S T O R Y R E V I E W BIBLE STORY REVIEW An activity that reviews the entire Bible story in a fun and interactive way allowing preschoolers that repetition they crave. But you guys, do you know who CAN? Jesus! That s right! (Point to silhouette of Jesus.) Show me Jesus on your paper. (Pause.) Very good! Jesus can do things we can t! So Jesus turned to Simon and He said, Simon, one more time, put down your nets! And Simon said, Okay, I will obey. And what happened? (Pause.) The nets were full of fish! Add these fish stickers to the net on your paper. (Pause.) Look at ALL those fish! That s a ton of fish! Jesus did it! Simon called out to his other fisherman friends and said. Bring that other boat over here! And hurry! They put their nets into the water again and filled two boats full! (Hold up two fingers.) Two boats full! THAT is a lot of fish! And just like that, they had fish because Simon obeyed Jesus. (Write kids names on their papers and set the papers aside.) After the Activity: Because Simon obeyed, he got to see something that ONLY Jesus can do! Only Jesus could fill those nets with fish like that. Who can do that? Only Jesus can do that! Matthew 19:6, NIV Before the Activity: Hey friends, come spread out over here. (Help kids spread out if needed.) Super! Today in our Bible story we heard how the disciples had been out on their boat trying to catch some fish but never did until Jesus told them to go back out and throw their nets off the other side of the boat. When they did, they couldn t believe all the fish that were in their nets! Let s pretend that these plates are fishing nets. I m going to toss some fish in the air and I want you to try and catch them but you have to stay where you are. Ready to catch some fish? During the Activity: Here we go. (Toss the fish in the air toward all the kids.) Great job! Let s count how many fish you caught! (Count out loud.) Wow! That was great! Let s try and catch more this time! (Repeat as many times as desired.) You are great fishermen! After the Activity: Help me pick up all the fish that didn t make it into our nets. (Pause.) Thank you for helping pick up the fish. Let s add these fish stickers to the net on your paper. (Pause.) Awesome job! Remember nothing is too hard for Jesus. (Write kids names on papers and set aside.)
