Competition Rules and Procedures GENERAL INFORMATION VETERANS This book of Rules can be downloaded from the website www.senevalleygolfclub.co.uk Start Sheets and Results of all competitions, are also available on the website, under the Members Master Scoreboard link. All Competition Cash prizes will be added to the winners account with the Professional including 2 on Card monies. The winners of all such prize money will be placed on the Veterans Notice Board These Competition Rules and Procedures are aligned to the main Sene Valley Golf Club Rules and Procedures and where such changes are required these Rules and Procedures will be amended accordingly. Job Description: Veterans Captain. Responsible for all Veterans Section Events During his year Specific Council Duties. Is required to attend the Sene Valley Golf Club Exec General Committee meetings to represent the views of the Veterans Section and to contribute to the overall discussion regarding the golf club and its future development. Appointment of Team Captains from the Committee for K.G.V.L. (Group 5), and K.G.V.L. Super Seniors (Group D). Take part in the Captains Drive in, with Champagne/Prize for the member who has placed a marker nearest to his drive. Work closely with the Ladies Captain to arrange and organise the Veterans/Ladies matches. (See Page 16) To contact and arrange with the Head Greenkeeper a suitable date & time (if interested) and run the Greenkeepers Day, (See Page 10) in liaison with Competitions Secretary. Arrange with support from the member s council an organising support team to run Captains Day, and to set the format of the competition, purchase prizes etc. (See Page 11). Friendly Matches Organise, assisted by Immediate Past Captain and Vice Captain. (See Page 16), and to place a blank team list on the Vets Notice Board for each scheduled match, for those members who would like to represent the Vets Section in playing against other Golf Clubs. Then to select a team and place the team list back on the Notice Board for those selected to tick their name accordingly. Once the team has been selected for the agreed date, to order food from the club for each home match. The Vice Captain (or designated member) is required to collect money on the day from the members of the team, and pass it on to the Veterans Treasurer. To organise and run the Captain/Vice Captain Challenge. (Centenary Challenge) Shield) (See Page 15) To set up an organising committee in arranging the two major events of the year namely the Veterans Open Invitation (during the Open Week) and the Veterans Ladies Night. Job Description: Veterans Hon. Secretary. Responsible for all Veterans Section Administration Arrange, prepare and take minutes for Committee Meetings. Produce Agenda and issue minutes for all meetings. Arrange and prepare Notices for A.G.M. The organisation of the Veterans Open. (See Page 18) The organisation of Veterans Ladies Night. (See Page 19) Keep the Veterans Notice board in good order. Keep the Veterans Section of the Club Website up to date. Produce Fixture Cards for Veterans Section. Produce Welcome Booklet for new members of the section. Maintain and update this Competition Rules and Procedures Book. Communicate with all Committee Members through E-mail. Keep a list of E-mail addresses of all section members. Other Arrange with the Captain, dates for committee meetings as required To appoint a deputy to stand in where required. Job Description: Veterans Immediate Past Captain. Give support to the Captain and Vice Captain throughout the year to achieve continuity. Organise and run the Past Captains Super Seniors - Frank Barber Shield competition and Lunch. (See Page 12) Sale of Sweatshirts, Polo Shirts and Ties, collects monies and pass on to the Treasurer. Orders fresh supplies as required. Take part with the rest of the committee in arranging the two major events of the year namely the Veterans Open Invitation and the Veterans Ladies Night. Attend committee meeting as required, giving apologies if unable to attend. Job Description: Veterans Fixtures Secretary. Responsible for all Veterans Section Fixtures Arrange all Veterans Fixtures in liaison with the SVGC office. Including: Veterans Competitions, League and Friendly Matches with other clubs. Attend annual meetings K.G.V.L (Group 5) and K.G.V.L. (Group D over 70s) to confirm Fixtures. Produce a spreadsheet of fixtures for the Club Dairy and Website. Take part with the rest of the committee in arranging the two major events of the year, namely the Veterans Open Invitation and the Veterans Ladies Night. Other Attend committee meeting as required, giving apologies if unable to attend. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 5

Job Description: Veterans Competitions Secretary. Responsible for all Veterans Section Competitions Computer Requirements The Competition Secretary creates or amends Templates for all Vets Competitions. Matchplay Competitions Puts up entry list on the Club House Computer which is open for bookings from home or in the Clubhouse 3 weeks before until 6 Days before the Competition Dates. Carries out a draw and produces the Draw Sheet, with play by dates, which is then displayed on the Veterans Notice Board. When the competition is completed he will produce a result sheet, to be displayed on the Notice Board with a copy passed on to the treasurer for payment of prize money. Singles Competitions The Competition Secretary puts up entry list on the Clubhouse Computer 3 weeks before until 6 days before the Competition Dates Removes the list and creates a suitable list, for the Notice Board and Website. Produces labels and attaches to scorecards to be issued from the Professionals Shop. He will subsequently produce a result sheet, to be displayed on the Notice Board with a copy passed on to the treasurer for payment of prize money. Quarterly Lunches - He will accompany the January Stableford, the John Lawton Trophy, the September Stableford and the December Stableford entry lists with a Lunch List, having arranged the meal and cost. Pairs Competitions (Page 13-14) The Competition Secretary puts up entry list on the Veterans Notice Board Carries out a draw with High/Low pairings with Start Times and publishes it to the Veterans Notice Board and to the Website. Produce scorecards to be issued from the Professionals Shop. He subsequently puts up a result sheet, to be displayed on the Notice Board with a copy passed on to the treasurer for payment of prize money. Take part with the rest of the committee in arranging the two major events of the year namely the Veterans Open Invitation and the Veterans Ladies Night. Other Attend committee meeting as require, giving apologies if unable to attend. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 6

Job Description: Veterans Treasurer. Responsible for all Veterans Section Monies collected and spent. Collection of monies Subscriptions from 1 st January produce a spreadsheet of members. Competition Fees, from the Professional. Leagues and Friendly Match Fees, from the Elected/Appointed Captains. Sale of Sweatshirts, Polo Shirts and Ties, from Immediate Past Captain. Entry Fees for Veterans Open and Ladies Night. Pass on to the Secretary Veterans, Open Entry forms for processing. Payments Meal costs to the Office. Other suppliers. Committee members for out of pocket expenses. Pay out prize-winners, monies, to their Bar Cards through the office. Provide and post winners etc prize money on Veterans Notice Board. Records Enter all monies in cash book. Deposit cash in Bank Account. Prepare budgets for Veterans Open and Ladies Night events. Prepare Year End set of Profit and Loss accounts. Provide a copy of P&L accounts to the Exec Committee Other Attend committee meeting as required, giving apologies if unable to attend. Take part with the rest of the committee in arranging the two major events of the year namely the Veterans Open Invitation and the Veterans Ladies Night. Procedure for Playing in Veterans Competitions. Enter your Name on the Master Scoreboard computer package. On day of the event report to the professional to collect your card and pay your entry fee, there will also be a 2s sweep which is optional. On completion of your round enter your results on the club's computer. Place your fully completed, checked and signed card into the box by the computer. Cards will be checked and results displayed on the Veterans Notice Board. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 7

Matchplay Competitions Arrangement of ties (Amendment) As soon as the draw is made in these competitions and thereafter, it is the responsibility of the First named player(s) to contact the other player and to offer three dates within the time allowed, and between Monday and Friday inclusive. Note: If the First named player(s) fail to do this, then they shall be disqualified. If the Second named player(s) cannot agree the dates offered, then it is his/their responsibility to arrange a suitable date, which must be before, or no later than, the play by date. Note: Should the Second named player(s) fail to do this, then he/they shall be disqualified. Approved by Veterans Committee on 28 th November 2012 Prize Giving Important Requirement - Members who are winners of any of the veteran s competitions should make every effort to attend the Veterans Prize Giving Award day which followes the Veterans A.G.M. as without your attendance it becomes pointless to call out the winner s names where the winner(s) are absent from this important occasion. Competition: The Hong Kong Cup. Type: Singles Matchplay. Tee: White (18 holes) Handicap: Full Difference. Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members Entry Fees are to be paid to the Treasurer at time of entry. Singles Match play competition after draw for preliminary and subsequent first round. The winner will represent Sene Valley in Kent Golf Veterans Singles Event the following Year. History - The Hong Kong Cup is a large silver cup decorated with oriental motifs in the form of dragons and was first presented by Colonel Blake in 1896 to the Folkestone Golf Club. The competition for this trophy fell into abeyance when a number of past winners died. The Demons were exorcised in a special ceremony carried out in the billiard room at Sene Valley Competition: The Bernie Keen Trophy. Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay. Tee: White (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference. Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members Entry Fees are to be paid to the Treasurer at time of entry. Four Ball Better Ball knock out competition after draw for preliminary and subsequent first round. Trophy presented to the Veterans Section by Bernie Keen a Veterans Section member and Past Captain. The winning pair will represent Sene Valley in Kent Golf Veterans Pairs Event the following Year. Competition: Veterans Cup Type: Individual Stableford. Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members This Competition will take place on the Day of the Veterans A.G.M. and was first introduced in The Trophy will be presented on the Day.. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 9

Competition: Henry Cotton Trophy Type: Individual Medal Tee: White (18 holes) Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members This Competition will take place on the Anniversary of the Opening of the Sene Valley Course. Each player will receive a length of string (Cotton) equal in inches to their handicap, so that they can move their ball at any time in the rough or on the fairway a distance within the length of string but not nearer the hole. (but NOT on the green}. The Trophy will be presented on the Day.. Competition: Seniors Cup Type: Individual Stableford Tee: White (18 holes) Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members Entry Fees are to be paid in advance. This Competition takes place during Sene Valley Open Week The Trophy is presented at the Open Week prizegiving. Competition: Monthly Medals and Stablefords. Type: Individual Medal/Stableford. Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Occurrence: Monthly Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members The January, May (which includes Greenkeepers), June (which includes John Lawton Trophy) and the October competitions are generally followed by an informal light lunch organised by the Veterans Captain. For details of the competitions that are run concurrently with these Monthly Competitions see Greenkeepers, John Lawton Trophy and Tom Morris Putter. All twelve competitions qualify for the Ray Sidders Trophy. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 10

Competition: The Greenkeepers Competition. Type: Individual Stableford. Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members and Greenkeepers. Entry Fees (currently 1) plus donation (currently 4) are to be paid to the Professional on the Day. Played in conjunction with a monthly Stableford, the Green keepers are invited to play if they so wish. The donation is given by the Veterans Section in appreciation of the staff. The competition is followed by a meal arranged by the Captain at which the Greens staff are invited free of charge. Competition: The Veterans Captains Prize. Type: Individual Stableford. Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members The day is organised by the Veterans Captain at his own discretion with support from the Veterans committee where requested. Competition: The John Lawton Trophy. Type: Individual Stableford. Tee: White (18 holes) Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members History - This was first played in 2001 to celebrate John Lawton s 90th birthday and has become an annual event. Bill Crinks, Veterans Captain during that year, presented the trophy to the Veterans Section and it is awarded to the winner following a lunch on the day of the competition. Competition: The Frank Barber Shield. Type: Individual Stableford. Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Occurrence: Annual Eligible Members: Past Veterans Captains and Super Seniors. Organised by the Immediate Past Captain. (Start Sheet with tee times, Meal List, Prizes, Menu etc.) Super Seniors are those members of the Veterans Section who are over 70 on the day of the competition. Past Captains can only play in Past Captains Competition. Prizes: 1 st 2 nd and 3 rd Past Captain, 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Super Seniors. Followed by an Informal Light Lunch with Choice of Menu options. All participants to pay for their own meal. Usually played in 2 nd Week of July. The Frank Barber Shield is presented to the winning Super Senior by the Immediate Past captain. Competition: The Tom Morris Putter. Type: Individual Medal. Tee: White (18 holes) Played in conjunction with a monthly Medal. Presented to the Veterans Section by Tom Morris a Veterans Section Member. Competition: The Frank Barber Bowl Type: Individual Medal. Tee: White (36 holes) Eligible Members: Veterans Section Members Two strokeplay Medal rounds played on consecutive Mondays. The winner has the best Net. Score over 36 holes. Tee Times are reversed for the second round and handicaps adjusted (where necessary), to obviate any perceived advantage gained by the initial choice. Veterans Section - Version 7 Page 12

Type: Singles Eclectic Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Managed by a member of the Competition secretary who will produce an updated sheet after every qualifying competition. Eclectic competition Played in conjunction with the April Medal, June (John Lawton) Stableford, July Medal, September (Tom Morris Putter) Medal and both rounds of Frank Barber Bowl. At least two rounds must be played to qualify. A valid entry must record the gross (medal) score on every hole - except in the instance of the one Stableford event where only point scoring holes are recorded. After every round, the score for each hole is entered in Master Scoreboard and the results are updated accordingly. Competition: The Ray Sidders Order of Merit Type: Singles Points Accumulator Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Managed by the Competitions Secretary who will produce an updated sheet after every qualifying competition. Twelve monthly Medal/ Stableford competitions with points allotted to the first ten scores each month on Count Back. The Winner is the player with the highest recorded points. Competition: The Centenary Challenge Shield. (Captains Challenge). Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference This competition is managed by the Veterans Captain, who will place a list of available dates on the Veterans Notice Board. Challenge match open to any pair of veteran members but only one game per pair. The challengers score five points for each hole they win and three points for each hole they halve. At the end of 18 holes the total points scored are adjusted by the difference in the combined ages of the challenger compared to combined ages of the captain/vice-captain e.g. if combined ages of challengers come to five years more than the combined ages of the captain/vice-captain, they add five points to their total score. However, if the combined ages of the challengers are less than the combined ages of the captain/vice-captain the difference in total ages is deduced from the total points scored. Competition: The Veterans Challenge. Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay. Tee: White (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference. A competition where the Veterans Section Members challenge the league squad. A white Board is positioned in the Bar and results are recorded as they come in. The League Squad Captain puts up entry list on the Veterans Notice Board Carries out a draw with Start Times and publishes it to the Veterans Notice Board. The competition is followed by an informal rolling light lunch of sausage and mash. Competition: Turkey Trot. Type: Four Ball Better Ball Stableford Tee: Yellow (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Handicap Managed by the Veterans Captain Who arranges for Mulled Wine and mince Pies at Halfway House or alternatively a meal in the Clubhouse and presents the prizes on the day. Competition: The Veterans/Ladies Greensomes. Type: Greensomes Stableford. Tee: Yellow/Red (18 holes) Handicap: 1/2 Combined. Occurrence: Bi-annual. (April and September) Eligible Members: Veterans Section and Ladies Section Members. This competition is run entirely by the Captains. A list is put up both on Veterans and Ladies Notice boards. The Veterans and Ladies Captain get together and carry out a Draw for Mixed partners and post the Start Times and pairings on the Notice Boards. Wright out scorecards with the calculated handicap for each participating pair. They order food and purchase nominal prizes to be presented on the day. Competition: Club Matches (Friendly) Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay. Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference. Occurrence: Home and Away. Organised by the Veterans Captain with assistance from his Vice Captain and the immediate Past Captain. He will put up a list on each occasion for members to show interest in playing the particular match. He will select a team from that list and display on the Notice Board. He will order food from the club for each particular home match. He will collect money on the day from the members of the team, and pass it on to the Veterans Treasurer. Competition: Club Matches (Kent Golf Veterans League Group 5). Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay. Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference. Max Handicap 20 Occurrence: Home and Away. The Veterans Captain, if he so chooses, shall designate a member of the committee to run the team for his year. The designated member shall be Captain of the Team. Who will arrange fixtures, select the teams, Order Food for Home matches, and communicate with the area organiser, Results Fixtures etc. He will organise and run the Annual Veterans Challenge the League Squad Match. He will arrange entries and select teams for the A.K.V.G. Emerton Court Foursomes and the Littlestone Team Invitation. He will on every 6 th year Organise and run a Group 5 Jamboree. He will attend the annual K.V.G.L Group 5 Meeting. He will collect money on the day from the members of the team, and pass it on to the Veterans Treasurer. Competition: Club Matches (K.G.V.L Over 70s Super Seniors). Type: Four Ball Better Ball Matchplay. Tee: White/Yellow (18 holes) Handicap: 9/10 ths Difference.
