SPECIFIC SELECTION CRITERIA FOR SELECTING ELITE TRACK ATHLETES FOR THE 2014 TRACK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FEB. 26-MARCH 2, 2014, IN CALI, COLOMBIA Effective Nov. 29, 2013
INTRODUCTION This document lays out the specific selection criteria for elite track athletes to be named to the national team for the 2014 Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, from Feb. 26 to March 2, 2014. Unless expressly stated otherwise in this document, these criteria are subject to the general conditions and criteria laid out in the Cycling Canada General Selection Policy document. All individual performances must be met six months prior to the world championships and times must be adjusted to reflect environmental conditions of 24 degrees C, 50% humidity and pressure of 1013MB. Any athlete meeting individual performance standards must display the physiological and technical attributes along with training commitment to their respective team event. The following criteria are organized by Schedule as follows: Schedule 1 Women s Endurance Schedule 2 Women s Sprint Schedule 3 Men s Endurance Schedule 4 Men s Sprint SCHEDULE 1 ELITE WOMEN S ENDURANCE Events: Team Pursuit, Omnium, Scratch Race, Points Race 1. Elite Women s Endurance i. To win a medal in the women s team pursuit; ii. To finish top-6 in the women s omnium. b. Selection: Applies to all female athletes wishing to be selected to the Canadian team for the 2014 Track World Championships. d. Eligibility: All female licensed riders age 19 and over on Dec. 31, 2014. i. Athletes who have finished in the top-8 in the 2013 world championship ii. Athletes who have finished in the top-3 in the 2013-14 world cups iii. Winners in the team pursuit at the 2013 Canadian Track Championship, provided they meet the individual pursuit minimum standard iv. Winner of the omnium at the 2013 Canadian Track Championship Effective Nov. 29, 2013 Page 2 of 6
v. Athletes who have qualified for the 2013-14 World Cup in individual disciplines through the UCI eligibility ranking and have met one of the minimum performance standards vi. Athletes who meet the individual pursuit minimum standard and one of the two additional minimum performance standards in official competitions using electronic timing: a. 3,000-m individual pursuit: 3:42.0 b. 500-m time trial: 36.0 c. Flying 250 m: 15.125 out in Section 10 of the Cycling Canada General Selection Policy and the following: the team pursuit; SCHEDULE 2 ELITE WOMEN S SPRINT Events: Team Sprint, Keirin, Sprint 1. Elite Women s Sprint i. To reach the semi-final in the women s keirin; ii. To advance to the second round in the women s sprint competition; iii. To place top 10 in the sprint team, if sufficient athletes can be identified. b. Selection: Applies to all female athletes wishing to be selected to the Canadian team for the 2014 Track World Championships. d. Eligibility: All female licensed riders age 19 and over on Dec. 31, 2014. i. Athletes who have finished in the top-12 in the 2013 world championship Effective Nov. 29, 2013 Page 3 of 6
ii. Athletes who advance to the first round of sprint competition or reach the semi-final in the keirin in 2013-14 world cup events iii. Winners in the team sprint, sprint or keirin at the 2013 Canadian Track Championship, provided they meet one of the sprint time standards. iv. Athletes who have qualified for the 2013-14 World Cup in individual disciplines through the UCI eligibility ranking and have met one of the minimum time standards v. Athletes who have met both of the following minimum time standards using electronic timing: a. Flying 200m: 11.55 b. Standing 250m: 20.25 out in Section 10 of the Cycling Canada General Selection Policy and the following:: the team sprint; SCHEDULE 3 ELITE MEN S ENDURANCE Events: Team Pursuit, Omnium, Scratch Race, Points Race, Madison 1. Elite Men s Endurance i. To qualify in 4:10:00 in the men s team pursuit; ii. To finish top-12 in the men s omnium. b. Selection: Applies to all male athletes wishing to be selected to the Canadian team for the 2014 Track World Championships. d. Eligibility: All male licensed riders age 19 and over on Dec. 31, 2014. i. Athletes who have finished in the top-8 in the 2013 world championship Effective Nov. 29, 2013 Page 4 of 6
ii. Athletes who have finished in the top-3 in the 2013-14 world cups iii. Winners in the team pursuit at the 2013 Canadian Track Championship, provided they meet the individual pursuit minimum standard iv. Winner of the omnium at the 2013 Canadian Track Championship v. Athletes who have qualified for the 2013-14 World Cup in individual disciplines through the UCI eligibility ranking and have met one of the minimum performance standards vi. Athletes who meet the individual pursuit time standard and one of the two additional minimum time standards in official competitions using electronic timing: a. 4,000-m individual pursuit: 4:36.0 b. 1,000-m time trial: 1:06.0 c. Flying 250 m: 13.90 out in Section 10 of the Cycling Canada General Selection Policy and the following:: the team pursuit; SCHEDULE 4 ELITE MEN S SPRINT Events: Team Sprint, Keirin, Sprint 1. Elite Men s Sprint i. To reach the semi-final in the men s keirin; ii. To reach the quarter finals in the men s sprint; iii. To finish top 12 team sprint team competition, if sufficient athletes can be identified. b. Selection: Applies to all male athletes wishing to be selected to the Canadian team for the 2014 Track World Championships. d. Eligibility: All male licensed riders age 19 and over on Dec. 31, 2014.
