ST COLUMBA S CATHOLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 2 - Week 5 Principal's Message : Despite the inclement weather Team 3 managed a successful camp last week. I would like to thank all the parent helpers who attended, you did a fabulous job ensuring our children were well looked after and had a great time. We could not do it without you. Te Kura O Hato Karama In the lead up to St Columba s Day we have been busy with a number of activities and learning. We look forward to celebrating St Columba with an Inter-house sing off, tabloid sports and lunch together in our house groups. As the official Feast Day falls on Saturday, 9th June, we will celebrate St Columba s Feast Day on Thursday 7th June. Congratulations to the children that represented SCCS in the Kids Lit Quiz recently. Our teams came 21st and 27th out of the 50 teams that entered. Well done! It is a wonderful school community we belong to and we are thankful that we are able to allow our children the many opportunities that we do. Our children are well into their winter sports codes now, with a number also taking part in AIMS Games fitness training. To those parents and caregivers who offer their time to coach and manage these teams, thank you, we appreciate all that you do. Thank you and God Bless Gareth Duncan

Team 3 Camp 2018 - Finlay Park Cold, wet, muddy adventures available to all at our Team 3 Camp this year. Huge thanks to the parents who came to camp with us. The support and encouragement you provided our children with ensured they were able to successfully meet the challenges put before them. Our students tackled all tasks with a positive attitude, and they had a great time. This year, St Columba s Catholic School will be taking 31 athletes to compete at the AIMS Games Sporting Championships in Tauranga from the 9th 14th September. We will be fielding three teams Netball, Basketball & Futsal along with individual athletes competing in Gymnastics and Cross Country Running. We are seeking sponsorship for our teams to help offset costs associated with sending our athletes to this event and so invite you to consider supporting us. We have three levels of sponsorship available: GOLD SPONSOR: $1000.00 + GST We Offer: Naming Rights to one of our teams ( Futsal) SILVER SPONSOR: $750.00 + GST We Offer: Sleeve Logo on sweatshirts & caps for one of our teams (Netball & Futsal) BRONZE SPONSOR: $500.00 + GST We Offer: Logo on Backpack for one of our teams Any donation would also be gladly received. Along with the stated sponsorship deals, we will promote your generous sponsorship through any communication associated with the SCCS AIMS Games campaign, via email and social media. Tax deductible receipts will also be available for donations. If you or your business are able to support us in any way please contact Andrea in the office. The church was full as we celebrated Pentecost, the birthday of our church, as a school/parish community. Father Fernando lead the Mass and gave a very passionate homily on God s love. It was a wonderful celebration and a very fitting way to demonstrate that we are Proud to be Catholic. Team 1 students continued the theme of Pentecost in their liturgy - they shared the story of Pentecost and named the fruits of the Holy Spirit: kindness, generosity, peace, patience, love, self-control, faithfulness, gentleness and joy. PROUD TO BE CATHOLIC - TERM 2 INQUIRY Team 1 and 4 students were lucky enough to line up a chance to interview Bishop Steve as part of our inquiry into what it means to be Proud to be Catholic. Bishop Steve answered all their questions - no question was too tricky - and he even taught the Team 1 students a fun song and dance about praising Jesus.

CELEBRATING ST COLUMBA S FEAST DAY - NEXT THURSDAY, 7TH JUNE Next Thursday, we will celebrate St Columba s feast day on the 7th of June (his real feast day is 9th June which falls on a Saturday). Team 2 have done a wonderful job of hosting the organisation for this event. In preparation for the day, the House Captains have researched St Columba and chosen a song which they believe represents the qualities or story of St Columba. Each house group will practise their chosen song for a sing-off on St Columba s day. The sing-off will be judged by our celebrity guest, Tim Nanai-Williams. The rest of the day will be celebrated with tabloid sports. If you would like to come and watch, the sing-off will begin just after 9.30am and the tabloid sports will run from approximately 11.00am to 12.30pm. Children are encouraged to come to school in their house colours - house points will be awarded for the house with the most children dressed in their house colours. Kids Club News Friendly reminders to all Kids Club parents to please use back side gate by Fathers house to pick up from Kids Club if after 4pm daily as we do not guarantee that other school gates will be unlocked after this time. There is plenty of parking down there also. Many thanks in advance. If you haven't filled out your 2018 enrolment form please pick it up from Kids Club over the next week or so. Holidays are approaching fast so please start thinking about care for your children. Kids Club will be open weeks beginning 9th July and 16th July 2018 to help our families out with care. Enrolment forms and flier out next week.
