Anew era begins at Georgetown in 2004 05 as freshly appointed head coach Terri Williams- Flournoy takes the helm for her first season as the Hoya leader. Williams-Flournoy brings a winning attitude and winning results to a program that has a mix of seniority and youth. Kate Carlin Inheriting a team with only five players who saw significant action last season and eight players whose minutes were limited or are newcomers Williams- Flournoy has the task of molding 13 student-athletes into her image and converting a program that plays in the toughest conference in the nation, the BIG EAST, into a success story. The Leader Williams-Flournoy returns to Georgetown as the sixth women s basketball coach in the history of the program. She began her collegiate coaching career with the Hoyas between 1992 1996 and helped lead Georgetown to its only NCAA appearance ever and a berth in the Sweet Sixteen. During her 12-year assistant coaching career Williams-Flournoy was a member of three highly successful Division I Bethany LeSueur women s basketball programs, including Georgetown. After leaving Washington, D.C. Williams-Flournoy hooked up with the University of Georgia and head coach Andy Landers. With the Bulldogs Williams- Flournoy experienced six straight NCAA tournaments appearances, including one Final Four and two regional final showings. After her stint with the Bulldogs Williams-Flournoy 30

took the head assistant position Jenkins is in her final year of with Southwest Missouri State eligibility and will spell either and participated in two consecu- Lisicky or LeSueur. With a four year Lisicky enters her final season playing background at Penn already a 1,000-point scorer at State between 1987 1991 Williams-Flournoy knows the ins and outs of collegiate basketball Georgetown and the Hoyas alltime three-point shooter. With the most automatic three point The Backcourt Georgetown s starting backcourt tandem from last year of senior Mary Lisicky and junior Bethany LeSueur again reunite this season. Last year was the first collegiate season that Lisicky and LeSueur teamed up but they were former AAU teammates and the familiarity between the two returned quickly in 2003 04. Lisicky and LeSueur were named captains this season along with fellow guard and senior Sarah Jenkins. shot ever in Blue and Gray history Lisicky has already buried 216 threes and owns three of the top four single season records for three pointers. Also a deadly free throw shooter Lisicky sinks 83.5% of her attempts from the charity stripe which is the best all-time at Georgetown. This year Lisicky will again be counted on to run the team and minimize the turnovers. Lisicky closed the 2003 04 season fourth in assist to turnover ratio (1.60) in the BIG EAST and tied for third in three pointers per game (3.14). Lisicky will have to stay steady in order to push the Hoyas forward in 2004 05. Rejoining Lisicky for her second season with Georgetown but third collegiate season is LeSueur. LeSueur became GU s all-everything last year, finishing first on the squad in steals (55), second in assists (77) and rebounds (5.5 rpg) and third in scoring (8.3 ppg). LeSueur started all 28 games and has the 31

32 uncanny ability to make the big play when the Hoyas need it. She is a veteran player with two years of remaining eligibility so LeSueur still has a lot of college basketball ahead of her. The final BIG EAST statistics ranked LeSueur fifth in steals per game (1.96) and 18th in rebounds. With one year of BIG EAST ball under her belt LeSueur will be expected to increase her scoring and continue her all-around heady play as a junior. A fifth year senior, Jenkins, takes the leadership reigns for the third straight season as a team tri-captain. A respected player Jenkins leads by example with a high level of energy and intensity on the court. Never one to back down to the opponent Jenkins played in all 28 games last season and ranks 10th alltime in three point percentage on the Hilltop (.313). She averaged 4.7 points and 2.0 rebounds a game and connected on over 74% of her free throws last year. Jenkins will need to continue to contribute on both offense and defense this season. The second year player Carlin grew into a powerful addition for the Hoyas as last season progressed. Carlin played in all 28 games and registered a 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game average. She was a consistent three-point threat and continuously attacked the boards. Carlin averaged over 21 minutes a contest and had her career best game against St. John s scoring 12 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Carlin s basketball skills will continue to compliment her fellow teammates as her minutes increase this year. Entering her third year Tyburski has become a confident shooter and smart basketball player. Tyburski saw time in 18 contests during the 2003 04 season after playing in 22 as a first year. She is sure from the free throw line making 88.9% in her career and has shown toughness in the lane ripping down 46 career boards including 11 in one game at Notre Dame as a freshman. Sarah Jenkins Freshman Heidloff is a gifted point guard and is a legitimate deep threat. Hailing from Chicago, Illinois Heidloff played against some top talent in high school and averaged 10.7 points and had 177 assists as a senior for Fenwick High School. She is an overall superb athlete playing three sports at Fenwick and that athleticism spills over to the hardwood. Heidloff will get her

Tamoulianis Mary Lisicky The Frontcourt The frontcourt is the area that will be hard pressed to recreate the energy and dominance from last season when All-American Rebekkah Brunson patrolled the lane. With only one returning player in senior Varda Tamoulianis GU will be looking for some help as sophomore Amber Dorsey attempts to comeback from ACL surgery and freshmen Kieraah Marlow and Jamie Mundy along with junior college transfer Christine Whitt all will play their first minutes in the Blue and Gray. Also bolstering the frontcourt will be second year forward Tenisha Davidson. Tamoulianis rose from the ranks last season and became a dependable scorer and started 24-of-28 games and averaged 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest. She was the difference maker in a number of contests and earned Georgetown s Most Improved Player award. Tamoulianis cleaned up rebounds on the defensive end especially finishing second on the squad with 89 total defensive boards. She will see more space in the lane this year and will need to find the open shooter once defenses collapse on her. An ACL injury early in 2003 04 limited Dorsey to just three games of action last season. She is an athletic player with great timing on rebounds and blocks. Dorsey comes from former men s basketball standout Allen Iverson s hometown and high school, Bethel H.S. in Hampton, Virginia. She owns Bethel s all-time block record and was the team s MVP. The freshmen Marlow and Mundy will each be contributing pieces to the Hoya frontline in 2004 05. Marlow is a strong determined player whose grit and tenacity make up for her being undersized at 5 11 for the four slot. She proved in high school at Coatesville H.S. in Coatesville, Pennsylvania that 33

Mundy is a good outside shooter and also has good moves with her back to the basket. She is a three-time West Virginia All-State selection and averaged Varda Tamoulianis will determine playing time. The junior college transfer Whitt has one year of Division I basketball under her belt playing for the Blazers of UAB in 2002 03 before landing at Connors J.C. last season. At 6 3 Whitt is one of the tallest Hoyas and will need to clear space down low in order to create room for penetration. Whitt was an offensive force in high school leading her team in scoring as both a junior and senior. This year will be a test to Whitt s perseverance as she works hard on and off the court and needs to stay dedicated to succeed at this level. Coming back for her second season is Davidson. A local product from Silver Spring, Maryland, Davidson The Schedule The Hoyas 27-game schedule, which opens at home against George Washington on Friday, Nov. 19, features seven teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2003 04 and five that garnered bids to the 2004 WNIT Tournament. Five of the opponents the Hoyas have never faced including Utah, Army, Canisius, Kent State and Clemson. The Hoyas host six games against teams that advanced to the postseason last year, including match-ups with George Washington and George Mason to go along with conference tilts against Boston College, West Virginia and 2004 national champion Connecticut. The six road trips against 2004 postseason squads begin at Richmond and then GU faces Kent State in the La Salle Classic before traveling to Clemson, Rutgers, Villanova and Notre Dame.

GU s 2004 05 season starts with the Hoyas trading a home game for an away game for the first four contests. After the season opener at home against GW Georgetown makes a stop at Utah before hosting Delaware and then traveling to Richmond. A four game home stretch takes the Hoyas into the holiday season as GU hosts Army, George Mason, Lafayette and Canisius in the month of December. The Hoyas will be spending the Holiday season in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On December 28 29 GU will be a participant in the La Salle Classic held at La Salle University. GU tips off against the host to begin the tournament and will then face Kent State. Georgetown s final out of conference opponent is Clemson on January 2 in Clemson, South Carolina. The BIG EAST schedule starts on January 5, when the Hoyas host B.C. Georgetown tips off against St. John s, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia twice this season and battles the other BIG EAST schools once. In McDonough Gym GU entertains Boston College, St. John s, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, West Virginia, Connecticut, Villanova and Syracuse. The Blue and Gray will travel to Seton Hall, Rutgers, Villanova, Providence, Syracuse, Notre Dame, West Virginia and St. John s.
