To date students have raised money through several fund-raising events. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The team performed well and earned a bid to the US Cheerleading Finals! They are now preparing for their Provincial Cheerleading Competition in February 2015." Sacred Heart High School Page 4 Writing Success! Congratulations to Clayton Dietz! As part of an English assignment, Clayton entered the CBC Short Story contest for youth from 12-18 years of age. His story of belonging was short-listed and Clayton was chosen as one of the 18 finalists from across Canada! Be an Angel - Angel Families Our Social Justice Class reps have organized many of the homerooms to become an Angel Family by sponsoring a local family in need this Christmas. Gifts for the children and their parents along with food for the family are being collected. All donations, gifts and food baskets are to be collected for distribution by Friday December 12, 2014. HOBY Leadership Conference Gr. 10 Students Eligible to Apply Sacred Heart High School will be sending one gr. 10 student to the Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Conference. This conference takes place the first weekend in May at Ridgetown College. HOBY motivates and develops future leaders, preparing them for positions in their schools and helping them to expand the talents that will serve them and others in the future. The HOBY seminar was first introduced to Canada in 1981. Although HOBY originated in the U.S.A., these leadership seminars are totally Canadian in focus and content. All gr. 10 students are invited to apply to attend this HOBY conference. Student services will be visiting gr. 10 classes in December to inform them of the application process. There is no cost to the student for this weekend conference. Gr. 10 students from across southwestern Ontario will meet for this conference at Ridgetown College, May 1 to May 3, 2015. Further details regarding the HOBY conference are available through the guidance office.

Sacred Heart High School Page 5 COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY APPLICATION INFORMATION Students planning to apply to post-secondary schools should be aware of the following: University applicants apply at www.ouac.on.ca PIN information required for the university application is available at the guidance office. Deadline for equal consideration of university applications is January 14, 2015. College applicants apply at www.ontariocolleges.ca Deadline for equal consideration is February 1, 2015. MedLINCS for High School Students Health Career Exploration Camp (Formerly MedQUEST) The MedLINCS for high school students is a health career exploration camp formerly known as MedQUEST. This program is scheduled to be held in Walkerton on July 6-10, 2015. Students who are currently in grades 10 and 11 are eligible to attend this interactive program. Medical students from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry will lead participants in a variety of activities that will illustrate the training required to work in the diverse fields of health care. The call for online applications begins November 3, 2014. Acceptance is based on first come, first served. The online application process closes December 19, 2014. A maximum of 30 students from throughout the Grey-Bruce area will be accepted. The parent/guardian must complete the online High School Application Form. Confirmation of up-todate immunizations and proof of a current 2- Step Mantoux Tuberculosis Status are required at the time of application. Successful applicants will be notified by email the week of Feb. 2, 2015. There is a $200.00 administrative fee to attend As the cold weather is setting in, Breakfast Club is feeding many students. Breakfast Club is serving a variety of cereal, a variety of bagels, english muffins, toast, cream cheese, jams, margarine. Students are also enjoying cereal bars/granola bars, cheese and crackers, yogurt tubes, juices, milk and a wide variety of fruits. Please remember to pick up a donation when you are shopping. If it is easier to give a grocery card of cash donation, please feel free to donate that way. Any donations are greatly appreciated! I'd like to thank those parents that have donated this year!
