COMMANDER S CORNER Greetings fellow boaters, What a difference a year makes! Last year the weather was cool and wet, this year warm and dry. It should make for a nice summer of boating and getting together with family and friends. April and May are busy months for our Squadron. Our AGM was held in April, followed by a fire extinguisher and flare demonstration. The Squadron Spring Gala was on May 8 th. I would like to thank Nancy Gibson from PMD for attending our event and pledging in the students and new Bridge. The Gala was coordinated by Gwynn Kroeker and Drew Humphries, they did a fantastic job. I would like to express my gratitude to the outgoing Bridge members, Gwynn Kroeker, Don Clapper, Jeff Krafta, Corinne Woods and Vern Woods for their hard work and dedication. I would like to welcome Jim Mummery, Rupert Mann, Drew Humphries and Jim McNeal to our Bridge for the upcoming year. Congratulations to all 25 students in our boating class. They all passed and I wish them a summer of fun and safe boating. I hope they enjoy using their new skills. A special thank you goes out to our instructors and proctors, without their generous support and commitment, our Squadron would not have had such a successful class. The Squadron s annual Boat Show was held on May 15 th. It was a beautiful day and eleven boats participated. I would like to thank the members who cleaned, waxed and brought them to the show. Bruce Porteous and Alec McLeod deserve recognition for coordinating the event. I would like to thank the sponsors of the event. Chinook Scaffolding Systems for supplying and setting up the scaffolding, Wayne s Mobile Homes for the stairs, Lakewood Electric for the barricades and Wal-Mart for giving space on their parking lot to hold the show. We couldn t hold the event without the support of these businesses. Our next social function is the Fishing Derby June 12 th and 13 th at Francois Lake Resort. This is a fun family weekend; I hope to see everyone there for a weekend of fishing, boating and good fun! Have a great summer everyone!. Respectfully submitted, Doug Cherry
