specification Breehorn 44 2 /6 Construction and certification The Breehorn 44 is built in accordance with the European CE-certification scheme and meeting the requirements of the CE-directive 94/25/CE for pleasure craft. This means that high standards are set for the constructional strength of the hull and deck, bulkheads, keel and rudder and the fastening thereof, safety and stability, engine installation, gas installation and the availability of owner documentation. The 44 is built to design category A. Hull and deck Both hull and deck are constructed from glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The gel-coat and the first two polyester layers are of ISO N.P.G quality (isophthalic-neopentyl glycol (ISO/NPG) polyester resin) for superior weathering and osmosis resistance. Above the waterline the hull consists of a sandwich construction with 20 mm PVC foam. A similar construction method is used for the deck. Longitudinal stringers and laminated bulkheads make for a very stiff structure. The hull/deck joint is fully kitted with structural adhesives through-bolted with a stainless steel (s/s) bolt every 150 mm through an aluminium footrail with square holes. The construction is laminated on the inside for optimal strength. Keel The keel construction consists of a polyester skin filled with 5,600 kg lead. The keel is fixed with stainless steel bolts welded to a s/s frame. The keel is then laminated to the hull. Rudder The rudder consisting of an aluminium rudderstock with four pair of welded cross plates is laminated and filled with foam. The rudderstock is supported by bearings in the cockpit floor and the hull. Wheel steering (diameter 1.20 m) and a Whitlock pedestal is standard. An emergency rudder can be mounted directly onto the rudder stock. Deck equipment Teak The cockpit, cockpit edge, coach roof and deck are laid with solid 10 mm teak. Hatches and portholes Forecabin: One hatch of 60x60 cm Main cabin: Two hatches of 50x50 cm, 2 hatches of 30x45 en 3 fixed portholes in the coach roof Heads: One hatch of 35x20 cm en 1 porthole Shower: One hatch of 35x20 cm Aft cabins: One hatch of 35x20 cm, one porthole in the coach roof, one opening porthole and one fixed porthole under the cockpit seats Companion way: Plexiglas sliding hatch and a three-part washboard All hatches have smoked glass Cockpit lockers There are two lockers underneath the aft cockpit seat. In the cockpit coaming are boxes for the storage of small items. Also in the coaming is the separate ventilated locker for two 5 liter gas bottles. Self draining anchor well in the foredeck with two access hatches. The chain locker is underneath the anchor well into which the chain is automatically fed.
