Richland Yacht Club Yacht Talk November 2018 Commodore Report Doug Larsen This is the time of the year when I start thinking about pruning trees, skiing and other non-boating activities. Hopefully everyone has addressed winterization of their boats if not you had better perform those tasks quickly to avoid damage or worse sinking. As we head into the New Year we are beginning the budgeting process, which includes the annual billings. Dan Breen our new Treasurer will be leading the efforts. Now is the time to provide input to the executive board if there are specific improvements that you believe the club should consider as long as they are consistent with the bilaws and standing rules. The Clubhouse flooring is a good example and I believe this will covered with this year s budget. Expect to see your annual dues billing coming out shortly. We had a report of a fuel theft last fall. A gas boat moored on one of the outer slips noticed their fuel tank had been emptied after filling it. It was good they checked before they went out on the water that day. If anyone else has experienced this please let us know. I want to understand if there has been any other incidents. See you down at the clubhouse but probably not on the water. Rear Commodore Report Debbie Thorington Lighted Boat Parade We will celebrate the Lighted Boat Parade at the Clubhouse on December 1st beginning at 6 pm. Enjoy the parade by the fire pits or from the warmth of the club house. Lots of fun for everyone; crafts for the kids old and young; cookies to decorate; hot chocolate; Christmas carols and maybe even a surprise visitor! Come enjoy the fun!! New Years Eve Party has been cancelled due to many members being out of town and the Clover Island Yacht Club having one as well. As a Richland Yacht Club member, you are invited to the Cover Island event but you must RSVP. We will put our a flier in December with those details. Dock Captain Report Bruce Carlisle Dock Cautions - It gets dark early and there are plenty of opportunities for icing on walkways this time of year. Use caution when checking your boat. Use the buddy system whenever possible. Check those dock boxes. Some liquids do not store well in freezing weather resulting in container rupture and leaks that can enter the water. Winterization tips: 1. Close ALL through hull Valves, ask another member if you unsure what a through hull valve is or how to do this. 2. Drain and blowout water from potable water system and pumps using compressed air. Drain engines, raw water strainers, exhaust manifolds, oil coolers and holding tanks. Don t forget to drain the p-traps under your sinks. 3. Secure mooring covers and dock lines; winds can blow hard on cold winters days. 4. Check your shore power cord for damaged jacketing and connectors. A good clean weather proof connection to the boat & pedestal is a must with rain, snow and ice. 5. Make sure your engine compartment heater is rated for confined space with flammable gas, rated for wet environments and equipped with tip-over safety switches. Use a ceramic heater, set on Low, plugged into a Pump House Thermo-Cube in the Engine room. 6. Check your boat regularly. If you see a boat in trouble or need help, let me know as soon as possible so we can take action to prevent further damage. Work Party We will have a Clubhouse basement cleanup on Saturday December 8 th starting at 9:00. Please come by for an hour or two as many hands make for a lighter load. We have a lot to cleanup and sort out after a great boating season. Work credits apply for this activity. Moorage is Full We are accepting new members that wish to go on the moorage waiting list. The waiting list is posted on the Pantry Bulletin Board. New Dock Boxes - We have 4 available for $500 each. Call or text me at 509 554-8987 if you are interested. 3

I wish to than Doug Larsen for his support and guidance in getting started and for leaving everything in such great shape, both administratively and financially. I have been treasurer of a few organizations in my past but RYC is the first one I have been involved with that has such a strong financial underpinning. I applaud those who have guided the club's financial affairs in the past. I want to thank Bruce Carlisle and Brent Shindehite for agreeing to serve on the Budget Committee. We will be working throughout December to be in a position to present a strong and sensible budget for 2019. If you have any ideas of things that should be planned for at the club do not hesitate to send any of us a note. I have completed preparing the 2019 Membership Dues calculations and you should soon see your 2019 billings. I remind you that payment is due by January 31. Thank you for being prompt on making payments. If there is anything I can help with at any time, do not hesitate to reach out. 4
