Release Notes Podium, the Performance Manager Release Date: October 2013 1 General Infostrada Sports has released an update of Podium, the Performance Manager. Below, you will find the specifications of the update. If you have any questions, please contact analytics@infostradasports.com. 1.1 Look and feel We have changed the look and feel of all sections in the application and the access point. These changes are all in accordance with the new Infostrada Sports template, which includes new color schemes, different fonts and the use of the new Infostrada Sports logo. These changes have no effect on the functionality of the application or the access point. 1.2 Functionality We have made changes to the functionality of the following sections: Dashboard, Results, Country Analysis, Compare Countries and Olympic Cycles. Furthermore, the Country Barometers section has been replaced with the new YTD Analysis section. Below you will find a short summary of the changes and a full description of the new functionality for each section. We have also added the possibility to switch between analyses per Year and per Season. This option is available in the sections YTD Analysis, Country Analysis and Compare Countries.

2 Dashboard There are three new objects on the dashboard. The object at the top left is linked to the new YTD Analysis section, which has replaced the Country Barometers section. The Medals Conversions object at the right in the middle is linked to the Olympic Cycles section and has replaced the Totals per Year object of the previous version of Podium. The object at the bottom right shows how many new results have been added to the Podium database in the last 24 hours, the last 7 days and the last 30 days. This object is not linked to any other sheet in the application. Furthermore, the Wins per Sport object has moved from the top right to the left middle position. The latest results object has moved to the top right and has the option Switch to Calendar to view upcoming events. # Wins (Current Year vs. Previous Years) This object shows the number of wins in the current year compared to the number of wins in the same period in the previous five years (year-to-date) and to the total number of wins in these years. When a year is selected, this year and the four previous years will be used in the comparison with the current year. When multiple years are selected, the most recent year within the selection is used in the comparison with the current year, together with the four previous years. Use the button to go to the more detailed YTD Analysis section.

Medal Conversions (OG/WCh) This object expresses the number of wins and podiums as a percentage of the total number of top8s per Olympic cycle of the selected country. Only Olympic Games and World Championships are included in this analysis. Use the button to open the Olympic Cycles section. New Results This object shows how many new results have been added to the Podium database in the last 24 hours, the last 7 days and the last 30 days. The numbers in this object are not dependent on the selections that you make.

3 Results The Results section is now divided over three worksheets: Final Results, Phase Results and All Results. The buttons at the top of the section allow the user to toggle between the three sheets. When Final Results is selected, only results at the level at which medals can be earned are included in the calculations. For example, in Cycling Road Tour de France only the general classification is included and not the individual stages. The option Phase Results can be used to view these stage results. Other results that can be viewed with this option are individual distances for Speed Skating and Short Track tournaments and results per discipline in the Decathlon and Heptathlon. When All Results is selected, the calculations include both final results and phases. The fourth button can be used to view the World Rankings section. Below is a full description of the functionality of all objects in this section. Full Results This object displays all results within the selections made. If available the actual result (e.g. time, points or distance) and the age of the participant are displayed. In the Full Results object all results are displayed with every race result (PhaseName column) on one row with the Winner and Country shown. To demonstrate the full functionality of this object we give an example and we start with no selections. 1. Click on a specific PhaseName record (e.g. Athletics 100m Men Athletissima 2013) to show all available ranks of that specific result. 2. Now if you are interested in the other results of the nr. 1 of the selected result (e.g. Tyson Gay), click on the participant in the Person/Team field.

3. If you now click again on the phase name to deselect it, the table will show all related results of the selected participant. 4. Now if you are interested in the results of the Country of that specific participant (e.g. United States), click on the Country. If you now click again on the participant name to deselect it, the table will show all related results of the selected Country. NB: If you want to filter on Year, Sport, Discipline, CompetitionSet, etc. this is all still possible using the left navigation multi boxes. E.g. within the current selection (Country: United States), select CompetitionSet: World Championships, Sport: Cycling - Track. All results of USA's participants in the World Championships Cycling - Track are shown. The default sort will be on date, but double click on any other column to sort on that column.

Medals/Ranks Person In the bottom part the medals earned by everyone within the selection are displayed sorted on gold, silver and bronze medals. This object is shown when no selection has been made or when multiple participants or Countries have been selected. When one person has been selected the medals (or ranks) earned by the specific athlete can be viewed Per Year, Month, Sport/Discipline, Season, Competition and CompetitionSet, using the Cycle ( ) button. Medals/Ranks Team When one Team is selected the same objects are shown as when one Person is selected, with only one difference. In the Medals/Ranks table one of the dimensions is now Participant (e.g. Team Member). In the example below we have selected Team Brazil and PhaseName Football Team Men Gold Cup 2013. When the dimension Participant is chosen in the Medals table this object shows all USA s team members in this competition.

Medals Country In addition to being able to view the individual results, the podiums per Country can be viewed in several ways by using the cycle ( ) button; per Year, Month, Sport, Season, Competition, CompetitionSet and Participant). Select a sport to drill down to the underlying Disciplines. Rank Progression When one Person, Team or Country has been selected the object at the bottom right of the section shows the distribution of Ranks (Wins, 2-3, 4-8, 8-16 and Other) for each year. Click on a year to drill down to see the Ranks per Month of the selected Year (e.g. 2012 for United States in the example below).

4 YTD Analysis On this page the current year s results can be compared to the results of previous years in several ways. In the previous version of Podium, this section was called Country Barometers, because gauges were used to compare years. In this new version we have chosen to use bar charts instead. The new functionality allows the user to compare the results of multiple years at the same time and to analyse the number of different participants in terms of wins, podiums, top8s and top16s. Below you will find a full description of the new functionality. The buttons in the top left of the section allow the user to switch between results and participants. The list box in the middle allows the user to switch between analyses per Year and per Season.

The list box at the bottom left allows the user to analyse Wins, Podiums, Top8s or Top16s. 4.1 Results #Wins (Current Year vs. Previous Years) By default this object shows the number of wins (or podiums, top8s or top16s) in the current year compared to the numbers in the previous 5 years (YTD and full years). If a selection on Year has been made, the maximum year within the selection and the previous four years are used in the comparison with the current year. The dashed line indicates the number of wins in the current year and this line can be used to compare with the numbers of the previous years. All objects on this sheet have a fast change ( ) button at the top right. This button allows the user to quickly switch between bar chart view and table view (e.g. Netherlands Wins in the two pictures below). Wins Share (Current Year vs. Previous Years) This object shows the same numbers as the previous object, but expresses them as a percentage of the total number of possible wins, podiums, top8s or top16s.

4.2 Participants #Participants with Wins (Current Year vs. Previous Years) By default this object shows the number of different participants with wins (or podiums, top8s or top16s) in the current year compared to the numbers in the previous 5 years (YTD and full years). If a selection on Year has been made, the maximum year within the selection and the previous four years are used in the comparison with the current year. The dashed line indicates the number of different participants with wins in the current year and this line can be used to compare with the numbers of the previous years. #Participants with Wins Share (Current Year vs. Previous Years) This object shows the same numbers as the previous object, but expresses them as a percentage of the total number of participants with wins, podiums, top8s or top16s in each year.

5 Country Analysis On this page multiple analyses are made about only one Country. In the previous version of podium this section consisted of nine objects, which fell into three categories: analyses per Period, per Sport and per Athlete. In the new version there is a list box in the top of the section that allows the user to toggle between Year, Season, Sport and Athlete. For each of these options, four objects are displayed. A full description of these objects is given below. In all objects the focus is on wins, top3 positions and 4-8 ranks. All objects, except for the top left table, allow for a manual selection of Wins, Podiums or Top8s as a focus.

5.1 Year/Season Totals per Year/Season This object displays the totals of first, second, third, 4th-8th ranks and total top8 positions per Year or per Season. Clicking on a year (season) drills down to months. (e.g. 2012 for Netherlands in the picture on the right below) Wins/Podiums/Top8s per Year/Season This object displays the number of Wins/Podiums/Top8s (depending on your selection) per Year or per Season. Clicking on a year (season) drills down to months. (e.g. Podiums in 2011/2012 for Netherlands in the picture on the right below) % Wins of Podiums / Rank 1, 2 and 3 / Podiums vs. Top8s When Wins is selected this object shows the number of wins as percentage of total podiums within the selections made. When Podiums is selected the object shows the number of first, second and third places as percentages of total podiums. When Top8s is selected the number podiums and 4th-8th places are expressed as percentages of total top8s (this is shown in the picture below for Netherlands). Clicking on a year or season drills down to months.

% Wins/Podiums/Top8s per Gender This object displays the share per Gender in Wins/Podiums/Top8s. How are the men performing compared to the women and vice versa? The example below shows the percentages of Wins per Gender for the Netherlands. 5.2 Sport Totals per Sport This object displays the totals of first, second, third, 4th-8th ranks and total top8 positions per Sport. Clicking on a sport drills down to the disciplines. (e.g. Speed Skating for Netherlands in the picture on the right below) Wins/Podiums/Top8s per Sport This object displays the number of Wins/Podiums/Top8s (depending on your selection) per Sport. Clicking on a sport drills down to disciplines. (e.g. Top8s in Speed Skating for Netherlands in the picture on the right below)

% Wins compared to Rank 2-3 / Podiums to Rank 4-8 / Top8s to Other Ranks When Wins is selected this object expresses the number of wins and the number of ranks 2 and 3 as percentages of total podiums within the selection and displays these numbers in a gauge. The further to the right the needle in the gauge is, the better the performance. When Podiums is selected the number of podiums and number of ranks 4-8 are expressed as percentages of total top8s. When Top8s is selected the number of top8 results and the number of other ranks are expressed as percentages of the total number of results. See the example below for Podiums for Netherlands. Clicking on a sport drills down to disciplines. Distribution of Age per Sport/Discipline This object shows a Box Plot of the Age distribution of all athletes with Wins/Podiums/Top8s within the selection. The left horizontal line starts at the minimum Age and the right line ends at the maximum. The Box starts at the 25 th percentile of the distribution (i.e. 25% of the Ages are lower than or equal to this value) and ends at the 75th percentile, so the middle 50% of the distribution is represented by the box. The vertical line within the box represents the median of the distribution, i.e. 50% of all Ages are lower than or equal to this value. An example is given on the left below for Top8s for United States. Clicking on a sport drills down to disciplines. Use the button on the top right to see the five values of the Box Plot in a table (see the picture on the right below).

5.3 Athlete Totals per Athlete This object displays the totals of first, second, third, 4th-8th ranks and top8s per Athlete within the selection, e.g. Netherlands in the picture below. Wins/Podiums/Top8s per Athlete This object displays the number of Wins/Podiums/Top8s (depending on your selection) per Athlete within the selection, e.g. Wins for Netherlands in the picture below. % Wins compared to Rank 2-3 / Podiums to Rank 4-8 / Top8s to Other Ranks This object works the same as the object on the bottom left that is displayed when Sport/Discipline is selected. The only difference is that the numbers are now shown per Athlete instead of per Sport or Discipline. Wins/Podiums/Top8s per Age This object displays the Age distribution in Wins/Podiums/Top8s for a Country. At what age are a Country s athletes winning? Select a Sport to see the Age distribution of winners within a specific Sport to see the typical peak Age.

6 Olympic Cycles On the Olympic Cycles sheet the object at the bottom right, which displays the top8s to wins and podiums conversion rates, has been modified. Top 8 to Wins and Podiums Conversion When one Country is selected the object at the bottom right displays the numbers of wins and podiums, expressed as a percentage of the total top8s per Olympic Cycle for the selected country. Previously, the number of top8s was displayed in a bar chart and the wins and podiums conversion rates were expressed as two lines going through the bars. When no Country is selected the top8s to podiums and top8s to wins percentages of the top5 countries are shown in a line chart. The buttons at the top of the object can be used to switch between wins and podiums.

7 Compare Countries The Compare Countries sheet now also offers the possibility to analyse results per season instead of per calendar year. The user can switch between these two by using the top list box next to the table with ranked countries.
