The Bruins have won two of their last three games. Series History UCLA leads it 26-18. Last season, the Irish defeated the Bruins in Pauley Pavilion, 75-60. The UCLA-Notre Dame rivalry has been one of the best in college basketball history with several significant moments. In 1973, UCLA s victory at Notre Dame was its 61 st straight, setting a new NCAA record. In 1973 in South Bend, Notre Dame ended UCLA s 88- game winning streak. The following week, UCLA defeated No. 1 Notre Dame at Pauley. UCLA s Last Game Feb. 24 at UCLA 90, USC 69 The Bruins played their best overall game of the season, defeating crosstown rival USC, 90-69 before 12,823 at Pauley Pavilion on Thursday night. The Bruin victory gave them their first series sweep of USC since the 2000-2001 season. In the first half, UCLA led 35-30 with 5:30 remaining. An intentional foul by Gregg Guenther on Josh Shipp sparked a 14-0 run and helped the Bruins build a 16-point (49-33) halftime lead. The Bruins shot 63.3% in the first half. In the second half, UCLA led by as many as 32 enroute to the 90-69 victory. Arron Afflalo led the balanced attack with 22 points (7-8, 2-3, 6-9) and nine rebounds both career highs. Dijon Thompson had another fine all-around game with 17 points (7-9, 1-1, 2-2) seven rebounds, a season high-tying five assists and a career high-tying four steals. Michael Fey contributed 15 points (7-11, 1-4) and eight rebounds and Brian Morrison came off the bench to add 14 points (5-7, 2-4, 2-2), including two dunks, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jordan Farmer led the Bruins with six assists to go with eight points and two boards and Josh Shipp added nine points, five rebounds and a career high-tying four assists. The Bruins (15-9, 9-7) shot a seasonhigh..607 (34-56) from the field,.417 (5-12) from three-point range and.680 (17-25) from the foul line, with a game-high 42 rebounds, a season-high 22 assists, nine steals and 15 turnovers. USC (11-16, 4-12) shot.415 (27-65) from the field,.417 (10-24) from three-point range and.500 (5-10) from the foul line, with 26 rebounds, 12 assists, five steals and 12 turnovers. The Trojans were led by Jeff McMillan s 17 points and eight rebounds..

Ben Howland - In his second season at UCLA, with a school mark of 26-26 and a career record of 194-125 (Howland is 3-7 vs. Notre Dame, 0-1 at UCLA). In his last two years (2002-03) at Pittsburgh, Howland guided the Panthers to two NCAA Sweet 16s, one Big East Tournament crown (2003) and in 2002, he was the consensus National Coach of the Year. The Bruins - Including the win versus UCLA, UCLA is 8-0 when shooting.500 or better from the field UCLA is 6-1 this season in games decided by four or less points (lost at Arizona 76-73 UCLA is 2-0 in overtime this season and 4-2 under Ben Howland in extra-period games In the 2005 Pac-10 campaign, the Bruins have recorded four victories when they have comeback from double-digit deficits (18 at halftime at USC/12 in the first half at ASU/21 in the first half vs. Washington in Pauley/17 in the 1 st /2 nd halves vs. Washington State in Pauley) The Bruins are 12-4 when leading at the half (lost at Arizona, at Oregon State and to Boston College) UCLA is 12-5 when it outrebounds its opponent UCLA is 11-3 when it outshoots its opponent from the field, 14-2 from threepoint range and 11-3 from the foul line The Bruins are 6-3 with less turnovers and 9-6 with more UCLA is 11-0 when it leads with five minutes to play in regulation. NABC All-District 15 Released on Feb. 18 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Bruin senior Dijon Thompson earned first-team honors and freshman Jordan Farmar was a second-team selection. They are now eligible for the NABC Div. 1 All-American team, announced at the conclusion of the 2004-05 collegiate season. Looking Ahead - UCLA next week hosts Oregon State (3/3, 7:30 p.m./tv-fsnw2/radio - 690 AM) and Oregon (3/5, 5:00 p.m./tv- FSN/Radio 570 AM) in Pauley Pavilion in the final two games of the regular season. The Starters Dijon Thompson A first-team NABC All District 15 selection and a candidate for All- America honors, Thompson is UCLA s leading scorer (18.7, No. 2 in Pac-10) and rebounder (8.0, No. 3 in Pac-10). He also leads the team in steals (1.43, No. 9 in Pac-10) and is second in minutes (34.0, No. 4 in Pac-10) and assists (2.22) and his.824 foul shooting is No. 7 in the Pac-10. He has scored in double figures 21 of 23 games (missed the Pepperdine contest with a hand injury) and has led the Bruins in scoring 12 times, including five of the last seven games, and in rebounding on 17 occasions, including six of the last eight games. For the season, he has six double/doubles and has scored at least 22 points on nine occasions (7-2), including five of the last eight games. In his last eight games, he has scored 178 points (22.3), with 57 rebounds (7.1) and is shooting.569 (66-116) from the floor,.452 (14-31) from three-point range and.800 (32-40) from the foul line. On opponent home floors (10 games, not counting neutral sites), Thompson is averaging 20.4 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting.510 from the field and.855 from the foul line. He has career-highs this season in points (39, Arizona State/Pac-10 co-leader, including 27 at halftime, No. 3 on the UCLA Pauley Pauley first half scoring chart/his 39 points is the most points by a Bruin in a game since Jason Kapono scored 44 at Washington State (1/4/03) and the most points by a Bruin in Pauley since Don MacLean s 39 vs. Pittsburgh on 2/2/91/he s just the ninth UCLA player in history to score 39 or more points in a game) and rebounds (16, Washington State/Western Illinois). Thompson was the Pac-10 Player of the Week for his then career-high 29 points vs. Michigan. On the Bruin career charts, he s the 45 th Bruin in history t o score over 1,000 points (1,371, T-No. 23/No. 23, Curtis Rowe, 1,371, 1969-71; No. 22 Kiki Vandeweghe, 1,380, 1977-80; No. 21 Walt Hazzard, 1,401, 1962-64). He s also No. 6 (122) in 3Pters and No. 10 in FT% (.795) Vs. USC, in 34 minutes, Thompson scored 17 points (7-9, 1-1, 2-2), with seven rebounds, a season high tying five assists and a career high-tying four steals. Jordan Farmar A second-team NABC All- District 15 selection and a top candidate for National and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, he s UCLA s second-leading scorer (13.3, No. 14 in Pac-10) and leader in minutes (34.5, No. 3 in Pac-10) and assists (5.17, No. 2 in Pac-10) is second in steals (1.38). In his last five games, he has scored 84 points (16.8) and is shooting.482 (27-56) from the floor,.391 (9-23) from three-point range and.840 (21-25) from the foul line.

Farmar was the Pac-10 Player of the Week for his career-high 25 points and gamewinning shot vs. Pepperdine. Named as the nation s Top Mid-season Diaper Dandy by ESPN s Dick Vitale. Farmar has started every game (24), has scored in double figures 17 of 24 games (including four of the last five), has led the Bruins in scoring on six occasions, including a season-high 27 points in UCLA s 83-73 loss to Arizona in Pauley (2/12) and has been the UCLA assist leader in 21 of 24 games, including nine of the last 10 games Vs. USC, in 31 minutes, Farmar had eight points, six assists, two rebounds and one steal. Arron Afflalo Has started every game this season and is UCLA s third-leading scorer (10.7), third in minutes (30.8) and third in assists (2.21). He has scored in double figures in 14 games, including three of the last four, and has led the Bruins in scoring three times. Named with Jordan Farmar as one of five top Diaper Dandy Duos by ESPN s Dick Vitale. He has scored 54 points (13.5) the last four games. Vs.USC, Afflalo played 23 minutes, setting career highs with 22 points (7-8, 2-3, 6-9) and nine rebounds and added two assists and one steal. He has had four assists three times in his last five games (3.0 average) and has eight steals in his last four games. Vs. USC, in 30 minutes, Shipp scored nine points, with five rebounds, a season-high tying four assists and one steal. Off the Bench Vs.USC, UCLA used six players off the bench -Brian Morrison in 24 minutes, he scored 14 points (5-7, 2-4, 2-2, including two dunks), with three rebounds three assists, two steals and two blocks. He has come off the bench and scored in double digits on 11 occasions this season and is averaging 7.9 points while shooting.363 from three-point range and.778 from the line. -Ryan Hollins- in nine minutes, scored two points, with three rebound. -Matt McKinney played 11 minutes with one point, one rebound and one assist. -Josiah Johnson played three minutes with two points. -Ike Williams/Quinn Hawking/ each played one minute. Michael Fey A starter in 23 of 24 games, Fey is UCLA s No. 5 scorer (8.8), No. 3 rebounder (4.7) and his FG% of.553 is No. 3 in the Pac-10. He has scored in double figures nine times, led the Bruins in scoring three times (including a career-high 23 points at Oregon State), rebounding four times (including a career-high 11 vs. Stanford) and in blocked shots on four occasions. In 29 minutes vs. USC, Fey had 15 points (7-11, 1-4), eight rebounds, one assist and one block. Josh Shipp - After 24 games, he s started the last 19 contests, Shipp is UCLA s No. 4 scorer (9.0) and No. 2 rebounder (4.9, No. 18 in the Pac-10). Shipp has scored in double figures in nine games (including a season-high 20 points at Washington), has led the Bruins in scoring once (a then season-high 18 points at Michigan State), rebounding three times (including a season-high 12 vs. Pepperdine) and in steals on 10 occasions, including three of the last four games.
