Olivia Courtney won the all-around with a career-high 39.5, and Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs was a close second, scoring 39.475. A Look At The Regional Field Arkansas (11-12) is the No. 2 seed in the Regional and is ranked No. 10 in the nation. The Razorbacks had a scintillating start to the season, ranking No. 1 for the fi rst time in program history on Jan. 23 (tied for fi rst with UCLA) but have been decimated with injuries as of late. At the SEC Championships, Arkansas placed sixth with a score of 194.175. Razorback senior Jamie Pisani won the balance beam title and was second on fl oor and in the all-around at the SECs. Pisani ranks No. 1 in the nation in the all-around and on fl oor exercise. Boise State (10-4) is the No. 3 seed at the regional and ranks 15th nationally. The Broncos average 195.616 on the year with a high of 196.850 achieved Mar. 16 against Southern Utah. Boise State is led by Brittany Potvin-Green,who has fi ve all-around wins this season and set the No. 2 all-around mark in school history with a 39.6 in the Broncos' last meet. Potvin-Green ranks 21st nationally on vault. No. 4 seed Missouri (9-7-1) is coming off a second-place fi nish at the Big 12 Championships. Senior Mary Burke was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, and freshman Freshman Rachel Updike earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors. UCLA defeated both Boise State and Missouri at the IGI/Chicago Style Classic on Feb. 10, scoring 196.850 while Boise State scored 196.025 and Missouri placed third with 195.525. Rounding out the fi eld are No. 5 seed New Hampshire (14-10) and No. 6 seed Maryland (17-12). In the Rankings UCLA moved up one spot to No. 3 in the national rankings after posting 197.425 at the Pac-12 Championships. The Bruins fi nished the regular season with a RQS of 197.270. The Bruins fi nished fi rst on vault (49.510), fi fth on bars (49.285) third on beam (49.290) and second on fl oor (49.350). For the third time in her career, Vanessa Zamarripa ended the regular season ranked fi rst in the nation on vault (9.935). She is joined in the Top 10 on vault by Olivia Courtney and Tauny Frattone, who are tied for seventh with a RQS of 9.920. On uneven bars, two Bruins are in the Top 25 - Aisha Gerber (No. 13, 9.890) and Zamarripa (No. 24, 9.875). Samantha Peszek and Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs are ranked in the Top 15 on beam, with Peszek No. 9 (9.890) and Hopfner-Hibbs No. 14 (9.885). On fl oor exercise, Hopfner-Hibbs ranks fourth (9.920), and Olivia Courtney ranks 22nd (9.885). Bruins Win Pac-12 Championship In a championship-caliber meet befi tting the Conference of Champions, UCLA battled back to claim the fi rst-ever Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship. The topseeded Bruins came from behind on balance beam in the fi nal rotation to total 197.425, outscoring second-place and host team Utah (197.375), third-place Oregon State (197.025) and fourth-place Stanford(196.825). p. 1 of 7

Stanford held the lead for each of the fi rst three rotations before falling out of contention during the fourth and fi nal rotation. The Bruins kept close throughout the meet and showed tremendous grace under pressure in the fi nal rotation, scoring 49.375 on beam to overtake Stanford and hold off a surging Utah, who scored 49.525 on fl oor. Senior Aisha Gerber led off with a season-high-tying 9.9 to get the Bruins going on the right course, but a pair of falls from Olivia Courtney put pressure on the rest of the team to hit. And hit they did. After Mattie Larson's 9.7, Vanessa Zamarripa hit for a season-high 9.95. Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs earned a pair of perfect 10s and fi nished with a fi nal score of 9.975. And Samantha Peszek rebounded from a scary fall on bars to score 9.85 and clinch the victory for UCLA. Three Bruins Win Pac-12 Titles Olivia Courtney and Vanessa Zamarripa each won their second career Pac-12 vault titles, tying for fi rst on the event with scores of 9.95. Courtney previously won in 2011, and Zamarripa won in 2010. Senior Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs also claimed her second career Pac- 12 title, adding a beam title to her 2011 fl oor crown. Hopfner-Hibbs tied the Pac-12 Championship record with a score of 9.975. Bruin gymnasts now have 80 individual Pac-12/10 titles, twice as many as any other school in the conference. Kondos Field Honored as Pac-12 Coach of the Year UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field was honored by her peers as the 2012 Pac-12 Gymnastics Coach of the Year. This is her fourth career award. She was previously honored in 1995, 2000 and 2003. This season, Kondos Field led UCLA to its 17th conference title and a No. 3 national ranking headed into the NCAA Regionals. The Bruins recorded a national-high 198.050 team score in a win over Arizona State on Feb. 26, the highest score by a UCLA team since 2004 and the fi rst 198 score nation-wide in three years. Seven Bruins Earn All-Conference Honors A conference-best seven members of the Pac-12 Champion UCLA Gymnastics squad were named to the 2012 Pac-12 All-Conference team. UCLA totaled a Pac-12 best eight honors - fi rst-team selections Olivia Courtney (vault, fl oor), Tauny Frattone (vault), Aisha Gerber (bars), Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs (beam) and Vanessa Zamarripa (vault) and second-team honorees Samantha Peszek (beam) and Alyssa Pritchett (fl oor). Bruins Break 198 UCLA made a big statement on Feb. 26, scoring 198.050 in a dual meet victory over 24th-ranked Arizona State (194.850). The score was the highest in the nation this year, the highest by a Bruin team since winning the 2004 NCAA Championships and the fi rst 198 by any team in the nation since Georgia did it in 2009. The Bruins posted team totals of 49.475 or better on every event, including a 49.6 on fl oor, and totaled 13 marks of 9.9 or higher, including three 9.95s and a 9.975. Vanessa Zamarripa won the all-around with a mark of 39.625, the highest by a Bruin this season. Olivia Courtney won vault with a career-high 9.975 and tied for fi rst on fl oor exercise with Elyse Hopfner- Hibbs with another career-high 9.95. Monique De La Torre won uneven bars with a career-high 9.95. Zamarripa, Samantha Peszek and Mattie Larson tied for fi rst on balance beam with scores of 9.925. Vault Powerhouse UCLA's vault lineup has been the best in the nation this season. The Bruins are averaging 49.445 on the event and have scored 49.45 or better in nine of 11 meets and 49.5+ in fi ve meets, including the last two. Three Bruin vaulters are ranked in the Top 10 nationally - No. 1 Vanessa Zamarripa (9.935 RQS, national-best 9.928 average) and No. 7 Olivia Courtney (9.920 RQS, 9.911 Bruins In The Top 25 Rankings Gymnast V UB BB FX AA Courtney 7-T 22-T Frattone 7-T Gerber 13-T Hopfner-Hibbs 14-T 4 Peszek 9-T Zamarripa 1 24-T Team 1 5 3 2 3 West Region Ranked Bruins (Top 25) Gymnast V UB BB FX AA Baer 16-T Courtney 2-T 10 5 Frattone 2-T 21-T Gerber 4 7 Hopfner-Hibbs 20-T 3 1 Larson 8-T 14-T 9-T Peszek 7 16-T 2 7-T 4 Pritchett 7-T Wong 23 Zamarripa 1 7-T 14 Team 1 1 1 1 1 UCLA In Weekly Rankings Date Rank Average RQS Pre-season 1st 1/16 7th 196.375 1/23 T-1st 196.775 1/30 7th 196.231 2/6 7th 196.435 2/13 7th 196.504 2/20 6th 196.543 2/27 3rd 196.731 197.025 3/5 3rd 196.758 197.085 3/12 3rd 196.835 197.140 3/19 4th 196.835 197.140 3/25 3rd 196.889 197.270 2012 UCLA Gymnastics Roster Name Ht. average) and Tauny Frattone (9.920 RQS, 9.886 average). Five others average over 9.8 - Samantha Peszek (9.882), Mattie Larson (9.868), Monique De La Torre (9.85), Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs (9.833), and Kaelie Baer (9.816). The Bruins' vault total of 49.575 at Cal ranks as the sixth-best vault score in school history, while the 49.55s from the season opener against Utah and the Pac-12 Championships rank as seventh-best. Peszek Goes Hands-Free Samantha Peszek tied her career-high on balance beam on Feb. 26 by not only performing one of the most diffi cult beam routines ever in NCAA competition but by doing it without use of her hands. Peszek had been battling wrist soreness from an academic injury and modifi ed her beam routine to do non-weight-bearing skills. She scored 9.925 on a routine, now dubbed the "bluetooth" routine, that included a standing full, front aerial/back pike and standing layout stepout to layout full dismount. Peszek has hit 32 of her 34 routines this season, with 30 scores of 9.825 or higher. She leads the team with 13 individual victories, including fi ve in the all-around and fi ve on beam. She set an all-around career-high of 39.575 on Mar. 11. Frattone Joins 10.0 Club In her fi nal home meet of her career, senior Tauny Frattone earned her fi rst-ever perfect 10, sticking a Yurchenko half on, pike front off vault. Frattone became the 22nd member of UCLA's 10.0 club and the 13th on vault. Her previous career-high had been 9.95, scored on seven previous occasions, including three times this year. One of the nation's top vaulters, Frattone currently ranks No. 7 in the nation and is averaging 9.886 on the year and 9.860 in her career. Last season, she reeled off seven consecutive victories on vault and fi nished the year winning nine times in her last 11 meets. This year, she has four victories, which ranks second on the team. Zamarripa Finds Perfection Again Over a year after rupturing her Achilles tendon and sitting out the 2011 season, Vanessa Zamarripa is back to form, recording a perfect 10 on vault on Jan. 15 in just her second meet back from her injury. The 10.0 was the fi fth of her career. Only one other Bruin gymnast has scored more 10s on vault (Jeanette Antolin - 12), and Zamarripa now ranks fi fth on UCLA's all-time list for most perfect 10s, tying with Kristen Maloney. Zamarripa, who has fi nished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation on vault in each of her three years of competition, has scored 9.9+ on vault in 19 consecutive meets and in 32 of 38 meets in her career. She has never scored lower than 9.8 on vault and holds a career average of 9.916. At the Pac-12 Championships, she captured her second conference vault title, scoring 9.95 to tie for fi rst. She had a string of 68 consecutive hit routines snapped when she fell on beam in the last rotation at Georgia on Mar. 2. Injury Update Junior Lichelle Wong ruptured her right Achilles tendon on Feb. 17 at Oregon State and will miss the remainder of the season. The Bruins had to make adjustments to their lineup due to an ankle injury to Aisha Gerber on Thursday and illness striking Olivia Courtney Sunday morning, but their replacements came up big, with several even delivering careerbest marks. Samantha Peszek won the all-around for the fourth time in as many attempts, setting a new career-high with a score of 39.55. Lichelle Wong and Mattie Larson, both thrust into the all-around due to Courtney's illness, tied for second place with carer-best scores of 39.325. UCLA held slim leads over Boise State after each of the fi rst three rotations but then pulled away in the fi nal rotation with a strong performance on fl oor (49.35) to win the meet by over eight-tenths of a point. Boise State was second with a score of 196.025, followed by Missouri (195.525) and Illinois (195.1). The Bruins had event winners on all four events, with Olivia Courtney winning vault and tying for fi rst on bars with a career-high tying 9.9. Mattie Larson picked up her fi rst event victory, winning beam with a 9.85, and Alyssa Pritchett set a new career-high of 9.9 on fl oor to win that event for the second time this year. Meet 7 - at Oregon State, w/ Cal (Feb. 17) Fighting through adversity and a modifi ed lineup, UCLA came from behind to tie Oregon State for fi rst place in a tri-meet against the Beavers and California in Corvallis. Both the Bruins and Beavers totaled 196.775. UCLA rallied from a 0.40 defi cit at the halfway mark, recording strong marks on vault (49.45) and bars (49.2) to catch up to the Beavers. The Bruins had to tinker with the expected lineup several times after injuries to Samantha Peszek, who only competed on beam due to wrist soreness, and Lichelle Wong, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the three-minute touch on fl oor, and illness to Mattie Larson. The score was the highest in the nation this year and the highest by a Bruin team since winning the 2004 NCAA Championships. Olivia Courtney won vault with a career-high 9.975 and tied for fi rst on fl oor with Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs with another career-high 9.95. Monique De La Torre won bars with a career-high 9.95. The Bruins were less than a tenth of a point out of fi rst at the halfway mark, but a season-high 49.475 beam set by Georgia in the third rotation shifted the momentum the host team's way, and the Bruins couldn't match it in the fourth rotation, scoring just 49.025 on beam. Tauny Frattone tied for fi rst on vault with a 9.95, and Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs tied for fi rst on fl oor with a 9.925. Meet 10 - vs. Oklahoma (Mar. 11) In a matchup between two of the nation's Top 3 gymnastics teams, No. 3 UCLA easily defeated No. 2 Oklahoma, 197.525-196.475. The meet was highlighted by a perfect 10 on vault by Tauny Frattone, the fi rst of her career. The Bruins recorded their fourth 197+ score of the season on the strength of dual 49.5 marks on vault and fl oor. Samantha Peszek won the all-around with a career-high score of 39.575 and also took fi rst place on beam and fl oor with career-high marks of 9.925 and 9.95, respectively. Fittingly, three Bruin seniors ended their last home meet with event victories and career-high marks, with Frattone's 10, Aisha Gerber scoring a career-high 9.95 to win uneven bars, and Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs tying her career-high of 9.95 to tie for fi rst on fl oor.
