RACE 1 : BETFAIR / SABOIS DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 2050 metres (Cont d) P. Gatt, the rider of BURGUNDY NOTES (NZ), explained that after becoming disappointed for a run between the heels of SHIAWASE (D. Tourneur) and ROLLING DALE (C. Lever) shortly after entering the straight, he considered his only option was to shift in and attempt a tight run to the inside of SHIAWASE, which he believed had presented itself, however, after shifting to attempt the run he was of the belief that SHIAWASE had rolled in and he was unable to persist and was held up until inside the 200 metres. SEPTEMBER RAIN was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Mr. P. Barns, the Trainer of SEPTEMBER RAIN, was advised a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting for a future trial or race. RACE 2 : BETFAIR / SABOIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres Mr. S. Oxlade, the Trainer of ALUMINA, was fined $50 under ARR.59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identification Card for the mare. As Stewards were able to confirm the identity of ALUMINA from computer records held by them, the mare was permitted to start. The start of this race was delayed approximately two minutes owing to CAPTAIN KEV, which was untractable en route to and behind the barriers, dislodging its rider J. Frew and galloping riderless for several hundred metres prior to being recaptured. Acting in consultation with the Veterinary Surgeon, Stewards withdrew CAPTAIN KEV at 12.38 pm. Ms. R. Day, the Trainer of CAPTAIN KEV, was advised the gelding would be required to prove tractable en route to and behind the barriers in an Official Barrier Trial prior to accepting for a future race. BEL HEIR (J. Matthews) and SUMMER WITH ROSIE (NZ) (K. Dyson) were slow to begin. In the vicinity of the 1000 metres BELLE S STAR (M. Neilson) had to ease momentarily off REEL SPIRIT (L. Herrmann) was momentarily held up on the heels of BELLE S STAR (M. Neilson). In the vicinity of the 250 metres TUREEN (K. Bishop) improved onto the heels of REEL SPIRIT (L. RACE 3 : MARCELLIN TECHNICAL COLLEGE APPRENTICE CHALLENGE (Division 1) 1350 metres (Cont d) S. Westover, the rider of COUNT CHEVAL, which performed below expectations, explained that after jumping well the gelding commenced to hang out in the vicinity of the 900 metres and for this reason he was forced to race wider on the track. He added the gelding continued to lay out throughout the event and he had placed COUNT CHEVAL under pressure from the vicinity of the 500 metres, however, it failed to respond to his riding and finished the race off poorly. COUNT CHEVAL was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a higher than expected heart rate and a slow recovery. RACE 4 : BETFAIR MAIDEN PLATE - 1600 metres WE THREE KINGS (A. Patterson) was slow to begin. Rounding the turn in the vicinity of the 1100 metres TERRINE (K. Bishop) shifted out onto BARGAIN BUY (C. Lindop) became held up at the entrance to the straight until the vicinity of the 100 metres when disappointed for a tight run between the heels of SIERRA SKIES (A. Herrmann), which rolled out marginally, and FINAL COMMAND (S. Price), which shifted in and away from WEEKEND DISCIPLES (L. Hopwood). Approaching the 100 metres FLEET RIANE (P. Gatt) was hampered by ETERNAL REIGN (T. Pannell), which laid in onto that filly. T. Pannell reported ETERNAL REIGN laid in throughout the event. ETERNAL REIGN was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported a lower than expected heart rate. C. Lindop, the rider of OTTANA, explained the gelding was off the bit in the vicinity of the 600 metres and for that reason she had switched her whip to the left hand in an attempt to have it grab the bit. She stated that OTTANA responded to her riding and improved and although the gelding was laying in slightly, had elected to take an option to attempt a tight run between FINAL COMMAND (S. Price) and SIERRA SKIES (A. Herrmann), however, this run had closed and she was unable to ease and obtain clear ground until the vicinity of the 100 metres. RACE 8 : MICK VERCO MEMORIAL RATING 0-68 HANDICAP - 2050 metres (Cont d) P. He asked TOLDEROL TEAPARTY for an effort in the vicinity of the 600 metres, however, it failed to respond to his riding and he became more concerned with its breathing. Shortly after entering the straight he was of the opinion TOLDEROL TEAPARTY had lost its action and for this reason he had eased the gelding out of the event. TOLDEROL TEAPARTY was examined by the Club s Veterinary Surgeon who reported excess upper respiratory noise. Mr. G. Lesnikowski, the Trainer of TOLDEROL TEAPARTY, was advised the results of an endoscopic examination are to be forwarded to the TRSA Veterinary Surgeon and a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required prior to presenting for a future trial or race.
