Newsletter for December 16 th, 2018 Message from the President Dave and Lorraine Burson Just a word about our dance on Friday, "The Jingle Bells Rock Dance". We had a small group of 55 dancers, but those of us that were there really had a fun time. A caller from Louisville, Kentucky dropped by and Wayne invited him to share the microphone and have him call part of the dance. He is Travis Cook, he said he was in town on business for the weekend and came by for the evening. Travis said he calls for an "A" level club. Travis is quite a good caller and easy to follow. He and Wayne had a fun time trading off calling for our dancing pleasure. Those of you that were not there missed a real treat. I want to mention to that we had a few of our student / new members attending. They did a fabulous job keeping up with Wayne and Travis. New members attending were Michelle Mae and Rick Pehrson, J.J. and Aegean Chen. J.J. and Aegean are not only doing very well at square dancing, but also doing very well learning to Round Dance. We were all impressed with how well these new dancers were dancing. Someone I was sitting next to commented on the fact the Michelle really has it down and gets it (square dancing). We look forward to them being active Swinging Stars. We also have a few more student / new member that we are looking forward to be in attendance at our New Dancer Dance. We believe the entire group of student / new dancers are doing wonderful at learning the skill of square dancing. We have heard that several of our members are not feeling very well. Some sort of cold or something has seems to be going around. We hope everyone is feeling better soon. December 18, 2018 Ladies Holidays Luncheon All Swinging Stars Ladies, new Lady members and the Ladies currently taking lessons are invited to attend. Due to Russ s broken hip, I have opted to NOT host the December Ladies Holiday Luncheon at our home. Instead, I have reserved the back room at Macaroni Grill at 5005 West Park in Plano (the northwest corner of Park and Preston) on Tuesday, December 18 th at 11:30 AM. I have been working on our usual high-quality games and have been accruing prizes of untold value, which will be awarded to the winners. We will also have the voluntary white elephant gift exchange. Bring an unused item you wish to regift if you wish to participate. Please RSVP to Anne Nejdl by Saturday, December 15 th (Yo_Red@verizon.net or call 972-964-5979). To view the menu, follow this link for the lunch menu: Macaroni Grill Menu. ( https://www.macaronigrill.com/assets/macaroni-grill-lunch-menu-c-10-18.pdf?krnd=e1k3o0e0j3 ) Hope you can attend. Anne Nejdl.

JANUARY 11, NEW DANCER DANCE AND CHILI DINNER I want to thank everyone that signed up to either bring chili or dessert for the New Dancer. We now have the required amount of chili and dessert. Thank you so much! Report on Square Dance Lessons Lucy and Ralph Hamm Lessons are rapidly drawing to a close with the last lesson being December 18. We are very happy to have seven new members joining the club! Many of you met some of them at the holiday party. Be sure to welcome each of them into your square when they attend their first Swinging Stars dance on January 11, our New Dancer Dance. We wish to express our sincere thanks to Wayne and Jodie. Wayne's peerless instructor talents have prepared our students to become enthusiastic and productive members of our club. Jodie has worked tirelessly coordinating with the rec. center, scheduling angels, and doing so much more to make the lessons a success. Also, thanks to Jan Bergesen and Richard Covington who helped Wayne with the instruction every week. Finally, thank you to the members of the lessons committee who planned and advertised the lessons and, along with other angels, spent many Tuesday nights angling our students this fall. Message from JL and Linda Pelton about Round Dance Lessons It's Rumba and Cha Cha Time -- Are You Ready? JL and Linda are offering Beginning Rumba and Cha Cha classes starting January 12 through the beginning of March. Classes are from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Saturdays at Carpenter Recreation Center, 6701 Coit Road, Plano. Sign up is open now through the Parks and Rec. Online Registration Catalog or you can call Carpenter Rec. at 972-208-8087 to Register. The Beginning Rumba and Cha Cha class is #15732 or just search for Pelton as the instructor. What is great about Rumba and Cha Cha is that you get two rhythms for the price of one. Rumba and Cha Cha are very related rhythms with most figures appearing in both rhythms. Then after the beginning class ends, there will be an Intermediate Rumba and Cha Cha class that starts March 23. Same time and same place. By the time you finish both, you will be able to dance any Rumba and Cha cued at any square dance. JL and Linda really like teaching the Latin classes. They will tell you it's the very best "first" beginning class to take if you have never had Round dance lessons because it has a loose hold. Of course, if you have already had a class or two, that experience will help you quickly pick up this rhythm and the classes are always a lot of fun.
