Wilson (2-2, 3.06) Game #43 Home Game #21 TV: FOX Radio: WEEI 93.7 FM, WCEC 1490 AM (Spanish) YESTERDAY S NEWS: The Red Sox lost last night s series opener against the Angels at Fenway Park, 12-5...Boston fell to 1-3 in the current 6-game homestand...starter Rick Porcello (4.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 4 SO) took the loss for the first time since 4/19 vs. BAL, snapping a 3-game wininng streak over his previous 5 starts. The Angels scored 9 runs in the 5th inning, the most runs allowed in a single frame by Sox hurlers since 7/28/14 vs. TOR (allowed 9 runs in the top 6th inning). Every Red Sox in the starting lineup had a hit other than Hanley Ramirez (0-for-1, R, HBP), who left the game with left hand soreness after the 5th inning. Mike Napoli went deep, a solo shot for the first run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning, his 2nd homer in the last 4 games, over which he is 5-for- 15 (.333)...Dustin Pedroia led the team with 3 hits, including an RBI single in the 7th inning. STATE OF THE SOX: Tonight the Red Sox continue a 6-game homestand with the 2nd of 3 against the Angels after dropping 2 of 3 to the Rangers...On Monday, Boston begins a 7-game road trip through MIN (3G) and TEX (4G). The Red Sox are in 4th place for a 2nd straight day after holding 3rd place for 7 days in a row...they have lost ground in the standings the last 2 days after not doing so in any of the previous 12 from 5/9-20... Boston is as many as 4.5 games back for the first time since 5/13 (also 4.5 GB)...Their season-high was 5.5 games back over 5 consecutive days from 5/8-12. ON THE RECORD: At 19-23, Boston has its worst record through 42 games since a 16-26 start in 1997...The club has lost 20 of its last 32 games after a 7-3 start to the season. The Red Sox have lost 3 straight, 1 shy of their seasonhigh 4-game slide from 5/1-4...They are 6-6 (.500) dating back to 5/10 and have dropped 13 of 20 games in May, being outscored 85-49 in the month. Rick Porcello s 7 ER allowed in last night s loss also ended Boston s streak of 8 straight starters allowing no more than 2 ER, which was their longest such streak since 8 games from 6/29-7/7/13.
