Did we have fun at the Mecum Auction? Ask any of our members who were there driving and/or tugging and you will get a resounding YES. Not only was it a fun event for us, but it was a profitable one as well. Many thanks to Mecum for allowing us to participate, and to Bill Szelag for initiating the contact and getting the ball rolling for BAC to be chosen. Photos inside. BASTROP AREA CRUISERS CAR CLUB MEMBERS ON NATIONAL TV (From Moore About Town in the Bastrop Advertiser printed Wednesday, December 24, 2014) The Bastrop Area Cruisers Car Club was chosen by Mecum Auctions to provide volunteers for its first ever two-day auction of classic collector cars in Austin. During the second weekend in December, they handled some 685 vehicles, with many valued in the six-figure range. Since NBC Sports nationally televised portions of the event, many of the 60 BAC volunteers became television stars. Cruiser member Bill Szelag says, In appreciation for supplying the volunteer drivers, Mecum Auctions made a donation for every car we drove across the auction block. The generous donation to the Bastrop Area Cruisers for their much-appreciated efforts will be used for donations to needy families in Bastrop, veteran s organizations, BISD high school graduating student scholarships and other local charities. For BAC members, it was hard work, over10 hours each day, exciting, lots of fun, good exposure for Bastrop, and most importantly will serve to assist many Bastrop area residents. I have to believe that for these dedicated car enthusiasts, driving cars like that while garnering contribution for their charities was a labor of love. Way to go, Cruisers! Shown receiving a check from Mecum Auctions for assisting in the Austin auction are (l-r) Gene Waldrip, Bill Whittaker, Heather Jaynes from Mecum Auctions, and Bill Szelag.

Steve Dewire sent along this link to an article from USA TODAY on classic cars that are more likely to be reliable. http://usat.ly/1aulbb6 OUR MAN IN TOKYO Steve has also invited us all over to Tokyo to have a BAC meeting. But as usual, when anything s too good to be true, there s a catch. We have to ship our cars over there. What a sport, huh? Who wants to start the collection for the first shipment? And he even found us a place for our first cruise-in: Meanwhile, there is a vehicle already over there that could be the first member of the Tokyo chapter. Steve and Barb sent along to everyone their best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, and we send the same back to them.
