A small flame from the closing campfire is used to light a candle from each cabin; the cabin Footprints Award winners then lead their cabinmates to the waterfront, where each cabin candle is used to light those on their individual wishboats, signifying that the spirit of CSC lives on both in our memories and in our hopes and dreams for the future.

Susan L. Curtis Foundation Youth Development Programs (Camp Susan Curtis & CSC Leaders) They taught us many important life skills like Managing a Budget and Public Speaking. This will be incredibly helpful for when I m off on my own and for when I present things for important causes in the future. (CSC Leader Rose) Susan Curtis Foundation s multi year programs bridge the opportunity gap for disadvantaged Maine youth by developing the character, confidence and skills needed to succeed. Motivated and empowered, Susan Curtis youth achieve essential benchmarks and generate exponential impact by helping others. The result is a new generation led by healthy, happy people equipped to build stronger families and communities for a stronger Maine. Founded in 1971, the Foundation s programs are delivered primarily at Camp Susan Curtis in Stoneham and year round through CSC Leaders. Approximately 500 boys and girls from 3 rd grade through high school and from all 16 Maine counties are referred in partnership with public schools. Every participating youth is economically disadvantaged and must be fully sponsored through donations. The youth development programs of the Susan L. Curtis Foundation (Camp Susan Curtis & CSC Leaders) are dedicated to economically disadvantaged Maine youth; all CSC youth must be sponsored through fundraising. Program areas include: Traditional Outdoor Learning & Recreation (3rd to 7th grades) Bridge Programs prelude to CSC Leaders for young teens EXPLORE hiking & outdoor challenges program (8th to 10th grades) start (Success Through ART) visual arts program (8th to 10th grades) SpEad Sports Leadership program (8th to 10th grades) S.T.E.M. fun applications of basic concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math. (8th to 10th grades) Camp to Campus & Career improving higher education attainment and access (8th to 11th grades) Leaders: Intensive leadership development program (9th to 11th grades) Pathways explores post secondary options and career opportunities in Maine.
