After edging Wake Forest 67-65, No. 7-seed Georgia Tech faces advances to face No. 2 Louisville on Friday at 6 p.m. in the quarterfi nals. The game is on RSN with Tom Werme and Debbie Antonelli. Richard Musterer and Kurt Hoyt will have the call on WREK 91.1. 2. Georgia Tech and Louisville will meet for the third time overall and the fi rst time during the postseason. The Cardinals have won both previous meetings, including a 78-65 win against the Jackets in Atlanta on Jan. 3. 3. Senior Aaliyah Whiteside leads the ACC with her 19.4 points per game which is 40th in the nation. She is second on the Jackets in rebounding with 7.2 boards per game, which is 10th in the ACC. She has scored at least 20 points in 16 of 30 games and has fi ve double-doubles this season. She scored her 1,000th career point against Southeastern Louisiana. 4. This is the Yellow Jackets 30th appearance in the ACC Tournament Quarterfi nals and the eighth under Coach Joseph. The Yellow Jackets are 3-4 in the quarterfi nals under Joseph and 6-23 overall. 5. Head coach MaChelle Joseph became the all-time winningest coach in Georgia Tech women s basketball history last year and has a career record of 251-160 and the highest winning percentage in Yellow Jacket history at 61.0 percent. She is currently in her 13th season at the helm of the Jackets and is 95-102 in her career in ACC play. Georgia Tech won in the final 5.6 second against Wake Forest in the second round on Thursday night. A WIN WOULD... - Put the Yellow Jackets at 20-11, making it the eighth season in Joseph s 13 season that Tech has won 20 games. - Give the Yellow Jackets a 17-36 overall record in the ACC Tournament and a 12-12 mark under Coach Joseph. - Put the Jackets at 7-23 in the quarterfi nals of the ACC Tournament. - Be the sixth-straight win for Georgia Tech, making it the longest win streak of the season. - Be the fi rst win ever against Louisville for the Yellow Jackets. - Be the fi rst time the Yellow Jackets defeated a top-10 opponent since a 71-70 victory against No. 8/8 North Carolina on Jan. 6. 2011 - Be the fi rst time Tech defeats a top-25 opponent since the Jackets upset No. 16/17 last season, 71-62, on Feb. 26, 2015. - Be the fi rst win against a top-25 opponent on the road since a 56-54 win at No. 23/RV North Carolina on Feb. 12, 2012. - Be the 252nd win of Coach Joseph s career and give her a 252-160 overall record. - Give Georgia Tech its 627th program win and put Georgia Tech at 627-587 overall over 41 years of women s basketball. ACC TOURNAMENT HISTORY After fi nishing the 2015-16 season on a four-game winning streak with a 18-11 overall record and a 8-8 mark in the ACC, the Georgia Tech women s basketball team was slated as the #7 seed in the 2016 ACC Tournament. After the win in the second round vs. Wake Forest, the Yellow Jackets are 16-36 overall in the ACC Tournament and 11-12 under Coach Joseph. Under Coach Joseph, the Jackets are 3-4 in the quarterfi nals. This is the fi rst time the Yellow Jackets are facing Louisville in the ACC Tournament. LAST MEETING VS. LOUISVILLE It was a tale of two halves for the Yellow Jackets during the Jan. 3 meeting against Louisville. The Yellow Jackets ended the fi rst half on a 7-0 run to head into halftime with a 33-30 lead at halftime but the Cardinals would pull ahead by seven coming out of the break. The Jackets were able to tie up the score at 566-56 with 7:04 on the clock but the Cardinals answered with a 12-2 run. Georgia Tech fouled in the fi nal minute of the game and fell for the second-straight time to Louisville, 78-65. Senior Aaliyah Whiteside scored a team-best 24 points while senior Roddreka Rogers grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded nine points. Georgia Tech trailed the entire game. only holding a 2-0 lead at the beginning of the game, until a 3-pointer from Irene Gari knotted the score at 56-56 and then Aaliyah Whiteside scored fi ve unanswered points with 5:31 remaining. Wake Forest would tie up the score again, 65-65 with a minute left, but with 5.6 seconds left, sophomore Imani Tilford found Roddreka Rogers under the basket and Rogers was able to put in the game-winning layup. BRINGING IN THE HARDWARE The awards have been rolling in for senior Aaliyah Whiteside this week. Whiteside was named First Team All-ACC by the Blue Ribbon Panel. Whiteside is the sixth Jacket to earn All-ACC First Team accolades. Whiteside s appointment on the All-ACC First Team marks the fourth-straight year Tech has had a player honored on the fi rst team. This is the fi rst postseason award for Whiteside. Whiteside is the third Jacket under Joseph to garner the accolade joining Tyaunna Marshall (2013, 2014) and Kaela Davis (2015). Tech s three other All-ACC fi rst team members are Kisha Ford (1997), Sonja Mallory (2003) and Ida Neal (1989). She was also named the Georgia College Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, marking the seventh-straight year a Yellow Jacket has won the award. A Tech student-athlete has claimed the honor in eight of the last nine years. Whiteside s honor marks the eighth time a Jacket has been named the Georgia Women s College Player of the Year under head coach MaChelle Joseph. Overall, 10 Yellow Jackets have been named the Georgia Women s College Player of the Year a total of 11 times. EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM Senior Roddreka Rogers and sophomore Antonia Peresson were named to the All-ACC Academic team on Thursday. This is the second-straight year Rogers has been honored on the All-ACC Academic Team and the accolade is the fi rst for Peresson. Rogers joins Danielle Donehew and Regina Tate as the three Jackets who have earned the honor twice. This is the fi rst time since 1999 that two Yellow Jackets have been honored in the same season and only the second time in history that it has happened. The two are the 10th and 11th Yellow Jackets to earn the recognition. Rogers is a Literature, Media and Culture major and Peresson is majoring in Business Administration. ACC SCORING TITLE If senior Aaliyah Whiteside continues to lead the ACC in scoring, she will be only the second Yellow Jacket to capture the ACC scoring title. The scoring title is determined at the conclusion of the post season after all games are played. The only other Jacket to lead the ACC in scoring at the conclusion of the season was Dolores Bootz in 1988. She averaged 20.6 ppg over 27 games. Whiteside is currently averaging 19.4 points per game. She averages 2.1 made 3 s a game. 900 REBOUNDS With her fi rst rebound against Duke, senior Roddreka Rogers recorded her 900th career rebound becoming just the third Yellow Jacket to grab at least 900 boards in their career. Rogers ranks third on Georgia Tech s all-time rebounding list with 933 career rebounds. She has led the Jackets in rebounding in 15 games this season and 49 in her career. SUPER SCORER Senior Aaliyah Whiteside led the Yellow Jackets to victory at Clemson, scoring a career-best 31 points for the second time in fi ve games. She also 31 points earlier this season on Jan. 7 in a loss at NC State. Whiteside is averaging a league-high 18.9 points per game in ACC contests and a league-high 19.4 points per game overall. Her 19.4 scoring average ranks 40th in the nation and her 582 total points are fi rst in the ACC and 31st in the NCAA. Whiteside is one of two ACC players to record two 30+ games this season. VUCKOVIC NAMED TO ALLSTATE WBCA GOOD WORKS TEAM Junior Katarina Vuckovic is one of fi ve NCAA Division I women s basketball student-athletes to be named to the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works team. In its fourth year, this prestigious award honors college basketball athletes that have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of others through giving back to their communities. The Allstate WBCA Good Works Teams is comprised of 10 student-athletes; fi ve from NCAA Division I and fi ve from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. Vuckovic is one of two ACC players to be named to the team. The other is Cortnee Walton from Louisville. The Smederevo, Serbia, native has been involved in a number of community service initiatives since her arrival on campus in 2013. Vuckovic, who is a member of SAAB, traveled to the Dominican Republic this past summer with fellow Yellow Jackets for a service trip. ROGERS BACK TO HER OLD WAYS Senior Roddreka Rogers has been back to her old ways. She recorded a double-double in three of the past seven games - at Syracuse, vs. Miami and at Duke. Rogers has scored in double-fi gures in fi ve of the past seven games and has 23 career double-doubles which is fi rst among active players in the ACC. She has led the Jackets in rebounding in 15 games his season. Her 7.8 rebounds per game are t-8th in the ACC and her 7.7 rebounds per game in conference play fi nished at ninth. She averages 2.8 offensive rebounds per game and 4.6 defensive rebounds per game.
