Game Highlights Game Stats East has 4 starters returning from a 15-8 team including the leading scorer in the GMC, Jarrett Cox. They also have a host of seniors and newcomers that should bring more depth to this year's team. This team will be offensively versatile and will be able to score in a variety of ways. The 2017-18 Lakota East Boys Basketball season gets underway on the road at Wilmington on Tuesday, December 5th. 12/5 @ Wilmington lost 40-34 12/8 Fairfield won 63-39 GO HAWKS! 0-1 The Thunderhawk boys basketball team fell in their season opener 40-34 at Wilimington. The Hawks got a slow start offensively, but rallied in the 2nd half to push ahead of the Hurricanes. Down the stretch, some missed opportunities and tough officiating decisions were factors in the loss. East will look to this Friday's home opener with Fairfield to get in the win column. 1-1 1-0 The East boys bball team opened their GMCseason at home last Friday and came away with a 63-39 win over Fairfield. The Hawks got off to a slow start but opened up a big lead at halftime (31-17). The boys came out of the locker room on fire running off a 18-5 scoring run to put the game on ice. Senior Jarrett Cox returned to action and led East with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Junior Bash Wieland added 13 points. 12/12 @ Mason lost 61-58 East will visit undefeated Mason on Tuesday, Dec. 12th. 1-2 1-1 The Hawks boys bball team fought a tough battle at Mason last night, but fell in a close one, 61-58. East played from behind most of the night, keeping the game close despite some costly turnovers and foul troubles. In the fourth quarter the boys outscored the Comets 19-14, but the rally fell a little short in the final seconds. East was led by Bash Wieland's 17 points and 10 point contributions by Alex Mangold and Jarett Cox. East (1-2, 1-1) travels to Oak Hills this Friday, Dec. 15th. 12/15 @ Oak Hills lost 42-1-3 1-2 Mistakes cost the Thunderhawk boys basketball team a win at Oak Hills

41 last Friday night. The Hawks commited 17 turnovers but were able to get the game to the last 10 seconds and a chance to win. Unfortunately, a bad pass led to a found and put a HIghlander on the line with less than 3 seconds remaining and the score tied at 40. OH converted one of their two charity tosses to take down Lakota East 41-40. The contest was a physical battle that produced some foul issues for East. The team ran off to a 16-9 advantage in the first quater and led at the half 28-17. OH surged from behind outscoring East 15-6 in the 3rd quarter. 12/22 Hamilton won 53-30 Jarrett Cox led East with 16 points and 9 rebounds. East will host Hamilton this Friday then head south over the Holiday's for a tourney in Florida. 2-3 2-2 The Thunderhawks boys basketball team went 4-2 over the Holiday Break. On Friday, Dec. 22nd East defeated Hamilton in a home GMC game by a score of 53-30. After a slow start the Hawks turned it on in the 2nd quarter with a 17-5 scoring margin over Big Blue. The third quarter was more of the same as East glided to another GMC win. Leading the way for East was Bash Wieland with 14 points. No info available. 4-4 On Friday, Dec. 29th the Hawks put one in the win column defeating Mater Academy of Florida, 53-48. No info available. 4-5 2-2 In the final game of the Tenn. Showcase, East lost to Gate City of Virginia 66-54. No info available. 5-5 3-2 The Hawks returned to action in 2018 with a tough, come-from-behind overtime win at Sycamore by a score of 57-55. East got a lead mid-way thru the 4th quarter and then held off the Aves to take the game to OT. Some clutch shooting and stout defense got the Hawks the GMC road win. Date Opponent W/L Score Overall GMC Game Highlights GaGame Stats The East girls' basketball program is coming off of a 6-17 season and a 7th place finish in the GMC. The 2017-2018 team returns several key contributors from last season's varsity team including 2nd Team All GMC guard Jordan Stanley. We are also expecting contributions from some of the younger players who contributed to a very successful JV season. The team is comprised of 2 seniors, 11 juniors and 2 freshmen. After a great off-season, the team is looking forward to competing in the always tough Greater Miami Conference. 11/25 @ McAuley lost 63-42 0-1 The Lakota East Girls Basketball team started their season with a 63-42 loss at McAuley on Saturday, November 25th. Megan Hatfield led the Hawks with 13 points and snatched 9 rebounds. 11/29 Fairfield lost 63-52 0-2 East fell to visiting Fairfield on Wednesday, Nov. 29th by a score of 63-52. Jordan Stanley and Megan Hatfield led East with 12 points a piece. Next up East will visit Oak Hills on Saturday, Dec. 2nd. 12/2 @ Oak Hills won 58-30 1-2 1-1 The girls basketball team traveled to Oak Hills on Saturday and won their 1st game of the season 58-30. Jordan Stanley led the team with 16 points followed by Jessica Motley with 13 and Logan Fox with 10. Megan Hatfield just missed scoring in double figures with 8 points. Jessica Motley led the team in rebounds with 7 followed by Megan with 6. Point guard Lily Rupp did a great job running the team offensively. Danni Stoughton and Maddy Bley led the defense which only allowed 13 points through the first 3 quarters. The team is now 1-2 on the season. Next up is the East vs West battle in the Hawks nest this Wednesday. 12/6 Lakota West lost 69-24 1-3 1-2 The Thunderhawk girls bball team played host to the their district rival Lakota West on Wednesday. While the final score was 69-24, the girls played hard the entire game. Jordan Stanley led the team in scoring with 11 points followed by Danni Stoughton with 6 and Jessica Motley with 5. Jessica also lead the team with 8 rebounds. The Hawks are back in action on Saturday as they host Sycamore at 2:00. 12/9 Sycamore lost 45-35 1-4 1-3 The Thunderhawk girls bball team lost a hard fought battle against Sycamore last Saturday, by the score of 45-35. Jordan Stanley led the Hawks with 10 points and 7 rebounds followed by Danni Stoughton with 9 points and 2 steals. The Hawks move to 1-3 in the GMC and play at Mason on Wednesday, December 13 at 7:30. 12/13 @ Mason lost 46-21 1-5 1-4 The Thunderhawks girls bball team traveled to Mason on Wednesday and lost a hard fought battle by the score of 46-21. Jordan Stanley led the team with 9 points while Danni Stoughton added 5 points and 4 rebounds. Jessica Motley also added 6 rebounds. The Hawks host Hamilton on Saturday with the varsity game starting at 2:00. 12/16 Hamilton lost 50-47 1-6 1-5 The Thunderhawk girls hosted the Hamilton Big Blue on Saturday. The game was back and forth the 2nd half with Hamilton pulling away at the end with a 50-47 victory. Jessica Motley led the Thunderhawks with 6 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists. She was followed by a great defensive effort by Caitlin Rolling who also finished with 8 point. Next up East will visit Fairfield on Wednesday, Dec. 20th. 12/20 @ Fairfield lost 55-49 1-7 1-6 The Thunderhawk girls bball team travelled to Fairfield on Wednesday to take on the Indians for the 2nd time this season. After getting down early in the game, the girls outscored Fairfield 17-4 in the 3rd quarter and would eventually take the lead with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

It was a hard fought game but the team came up a little short and fell to the Indians again 55-49. Jordan Stanley lead the Hawks with 10 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds. Danni Stoughton added 15 points with 3 assists and Megan Hatfield added 12 points and 8 rebounds. The girls head to Beavercreek on Saturday, December 23 for the last game of 2017.. 12/23 @ Beavercreeek lost 60-24 1-8 1-6 During the Winter Break East fell hard to Beavercreek on Saturday, Decemeber 23rd by a 60-24 score. Jordan Stanley was the Hawks leading scorer with 11. 1/3 Alter lost 45-44 1-9 1-6 The Lady Hawks opened up 2018 on January 3rd against the defending DII champs Alter Knights. The Hawks started slow and went into the half down 21-8. The Hawks outscored Alter 36-24 in the second half but came up short 45-44. 1/6 Princeton won 49-46 2-9 2-6 The Lady Hawks defeated Princeton 49-46 to earn their first victory of 2018 on Saturday, Jan. 6th. The Hawks went into the half up 13 leading 32-19. Princeton made a run at the end but the girls put the game away at the foul line, finishing 15/18 for the game. Jordan Stanley led the team with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Danni Stoughton had a great all-around game with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Lakota East Results Under the continued solid leadership of head coach Pat Krieder, the Lakota East Chess team is excited for another year of competition and hopes to finish in the top half of the GMC rankings. The Hawk Boardmen will be seeking to improve upon last seasons winning 9-7 record and 4th place finish in the always competitive GMC. 10/26 Lakota West won 4-1 1-0 The Lakota East Chess Team hosted Lakota West on Oct. 26th to open the 2017 Chess season. The Thunderhawks pulled off a 4-1 victory enduring five really close matches. Weston Lindner, Brayden Reichelderfer, Magnus Miller and Kyle Oliver won boards 1,2,3 and 5 respectively. 10/31 @ Sycamore lost 4-1 1-1 East fell to Sycamore 4-1 on Oct. 31st. No other detail available. 11/2 Fairfield won 4.5-0.5 2-1 The Hawks chess players rebounded with 4.5-1.5 win over Fairfield on Nov. 2nd. The teams record goes to 2-1. 11/7 Princeton won 3-2 3-1 The East Chess team snagged a come from behind victory against the Princeton Vikings on Nov. 7th. After falling behind early 2-0, East battled back winning three boards in a row to secure a 3-2 victory. Weston Lindner, Braydon Reichelderfer and Jacob Zimmerman all scored for the Thunderhawks. 11/14 MASON lost 5-0 3-2 East chess sufferred a 5-0 loss at the hands of GMC defending chess champs, the Mason Comets on Nov. 14th. 11/16 @ Hamilton won 3.5-1.5 4-2 The East Chess team grabbed another victory on Nov. 16th knocking off the Big Blue from Hamilton with a final score of 3 and 1/2 to 1 and 1/2. Weston Lindner,

Magnus Miller, Kyle Oliver and Adam Johantges all scored for the Hawks. East record advances to 4-2. 11/28 Middletown won 4-1 5-2 The East Chess team snagged another victory over the Middies from Middletown with a final score of 4-1 on Nov. 28th. Weston Lindner, Magnus Miller, Dylan Stenski and Jacob Zimmerman all scored for the Thunderhawks 11/30 @ Oak Hills The East Chess team traveled to Oak Hills on Thursday, Nov. 30th and pulled off a 4-1 victory over the Highlanders. Magnus Miller, Kyle Oliver and Adam Johnatges all grabbed a victory. And Braydon Reichelderfer also scored with literally one second on his clock. 12/4 GMC Chess 3rd place The Hawks wrap up their season on Monday at the GMC Tournament. The East Chess team traveled to Sycamore on Monday for the GMC Tournament. After starting the day with two losses, the Hawks won six straight matches including a win over undefeated Mason to finish the year with a 12-4 record and a third place finish in the GMC. This was East's highest finish in the league since placing 2nd in 2011. Below is this years final GMC standings: Mason 15-1 - 0.938 Sycamore 14-2 - 0.875 Lakota East 12-4 - 0.750 Lakota West 11-5 - 0.688 Princeton 7-9 - 0.438 Fairfield 4-11 - 1.281 Middletown 3-11 - 2.250 Hamilton 3-13 - 0.188 Oak Hills 1-14 - 1.094 Weston Lindner was honored with first team All-GMC recognition while Adam Johantges made the second team along with claiming the fourth board of the year award. This concludes the Hawks' Chess season... the Black Knights may finally rest for another year! CHESS SEASON SUMMARY The Hawks go 12-4 in the 2017 winter season and attain their best finish in the GMC (third place) since 2011. Their were many highlights this year including once again chess mating their district rival 4-1 early in the season. Hats and congrats to Coach Krieder and his chess men on a great season on the boards! Gymnastics Date Opponent Placing Medalist Highlights This year's East Gymnastic team is lead by seniors Martha Yost and Olivia Fugate. Yost is a strong on beam and floor and is hoping to make and impact in the allaround this year. Fugate was out last year with an injury but is coming back strong and will be a great scorer on beam. Lucy Hartmann was 13th in the District on Floor and is also going to be a tough competitor in the all-around, along with returning gymnast Celia Griffaw. There are many new faces to the team this year: Lydia Brengelman, Emily DeVilbiss, Natalie Houlding, and Kayla Scanlon. They will round out the East lineup and are sure to be great additions to the team! 1/7 Oak Hills Invite 1/14 Northmont Invite 1/20 Elk Invite East Gymnastics returned to action at the Oak Hills Invite on Sunday, Jan. 7th. Results are not availabe as of this publishing date. Next up the Hawks participate in the Northmont Invite on Sunday, Jan. 14th.

The leadership of returning star varsity captain Hannah Ackerman, already has new recruits of all grades playing like veterans. We have hosted a rousing student v. staff game in the fall and had a promising scrimmage with our sister school before the Thanksgiving holiday. Coach Bright has every confidence that this group will maintain the winning record from last season. 12/6 Oak Hills won The results for the Academic Quiz teams opener on Wednesday versus Oak Hills were: Varsity 1: After a nail-biting tiebreaker round Lakota East 67, Oak Hills 63 Varsity 2: Lakota East 65, Oak Hills 54 JV: Lakota East 71, Oak Hills 62 Next up East will visit Oak Hills on Wednesday, Dec. 13th. 12/11 @ Sycamore split East split two matches with Sycamore on Dec. 11th. 3-1 won 75-64 lost 61-42 12/13 @ Colerain WON East Quizzers swept Colerain on Wednesday, 59-51 and 54-51. It is hoped that this group along with the returning upper-class athletes and the incoming freshman will continue to develop and produce district and state qualifiers as the season progresses. 11/28 @ Princeton East boys swim opened their 2017-18 season with an impressive win at Princeton. There are only 3 seniors and 6 juniors on the team. There are 18 sophomores and 15 Freshman. The Hawks return 4 District Qualifiers: Jason Reeves (10), Cristian Chavez (11), Alex Epstein (10), Drew Katona (12). East comes off of a very successful summer in that included Cristian Chavez and Jackson Leahy competing on the Ohio National Team at the USA Cadet/Junior National Freestyle Tournament. East graduate Jon Spaulding placed 6th in the country in the Junior National Freestyle Tournament. East wrestling season gets started Friday, Dec. 1st with a home quad match versus Western Brown, Ryle and Simon Kenton HS> The East Wrestling Thunderhawks opened their season on Friday with a win over Ryle, KY by a score of 50-30. The young Hawks which are currently riddled by injuries go on a roll after the first few matches and dominated Ryle. Winning for East was Cristian Chavez (Jr., 126 lbs.), Joey Nicholson (So., 132 lbs.), Alex Epstein (So., 138 lbs.), Connor Rose (So., 145 lbs.), Max Pennix (Fr., 152 lbs.), Eli Wood (So., 160 lbs.), Luke Mitchell (So., 182 lbs.), Drew Katona (Sr., 195 lbs.), and Aaron Sharp (So., 285 lbs.). Next East faced a very tough Western Brown. Western Brown was a State Final 8 Team last season and have returned all of their starters. East fell by a score of 65-4. Winning for East with a dominant major decision was Cristian Chavez (Jr., 126 lbs.). Next up for East are the Oak Hills Duals on Saturday, 12/9. The Thunderhawk Grapplers went 2-3 this past weekend at the Oak Hills Duals. East, which continues to be plagued by injuries, had to forfeit many weight classes which makes it difficult to win dual meets. The Hawks opened the day with a 40-27 loss to Lebanon. East won 4 of 9 matches wrestled. East then dominated Bellbrook by a score of 48-23. In the third match of the day, the Hawks lost 58-22 to a tough Blackmon, Tennessee. East then lost a 39-38 match to Oak Hills. Out of 7 matches wrestled, the Hawks won 5. 18 pts. in forfeits made it difficult for East to win the dual. Placing in the top 8 for the Hawks were: Drew Katona (3rd), Cristian Chavez (6th), and Alex Epstein (6th). Next up East Wrestling has a tri-meet at Kettering Fairmont with Northmont this Thursday. The Hawks traveled to Kettering Fairmont to take on Northmont and Fairmont on Thursday, Dec. 21st. East lost to Northmont by a score of 55-18, but then turned things around to defeat Fairmont by a score of 33-27. Winning matches against Fairmont were Kyle Collett, Bakhodir Guseinov, Andrew Brauer, Jackson Leahy, Connor Rose, Hayden King, and Brayden Theis. East Wrestling will participate in the Brecksville Invitational on Dec. 29-30. 12/29-12/30 @ Brecksville Invite The Hawk Matmen traveled to Cleveland over the holiday break to compete in the prestigious Brecksville Invitational, Dec. 29-30. Brecksville is ranked among the top high school tournaments in the country. The young Hawks competed hard and put forth great efforts. Most of the 8 wrestlers that were brought to the tournament won at least 1 match. Cristian Chavez (junior, 120 lbs.) went 2-2. 1/5-1/6 Fairfield Invite The Thunderhawk Matmen finished 13th out of 21 teams at the Fairfield Invitational this past weekend. Placing in the top 6 for the Hawks were Jackson Leahy (Junior, 138 lbs.) who finished 4th and Cristian Chavez (Junior, 120 lbs.) and Drew Katona (Senior, 182 lbs.) who finished in 5th place. The team had some stellar individual scores led by Seniors Josh Knull who bowled a 254 second game consisting of 7 out of 10 strikes. Luciano Ianucci also had an epic 2 game series of 413.
