The game will be available to watch live via the internet on ESPN3. USU is 3-6 all-time against the Bulldogs including a 1-3 road record. Last Competition W, 38-7 --- TEXAS STATE Behind a season-high 593 yards of total offense, Utah State won its eighth game in a season for the first time since 1974 as it blasted the Bobcats of Texas State, 38-7, Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Chuckie Keeton accounted for all five of USU s scores as he was 20- of-27 passing for 316 yards and four touchdowns, throwing scoring strikes to junior wide receiver Travis Reynolds, senior tight end Kellen Bartlett, freshman wide receiver Bruce Natson and senior wide receiver Matt Austin all in the first half. Keeton also had 10 rushes for 48 yards and another touchdown. Senior running back Kerwynn Williams rushed for 120 yards on 19 carries and went over 1,000 yards for the season, becoming the 11th player in USU history to reach the milestone, for the 16th time. Williams also went over the 2,000 yard rushing milestone for his career and now ranks ninth all-time at USU with 2,008 yards. Austin finished the game with four receptions for 124 yards, a new career high, with one touchdown. Senior safety McKade Brady led the USU defense with seven tackles, while junior linebacker Jake Doughty and redshirt-freshman defensive lineman Jordan Nielsen had six stops apiece. Senior cornerback Will Davis also intercepted a pass in his third-straight game. The Aggie defense limited Texas State to 158 yards of total offense (82-rushing, 76-passing), which is a season-low and the fewest yards allowed since the 2008 season. Furthermore, the 76 passing yards by the Bobcats are the fewest by an Aggie opponent since 2000. For USU, its 593 yards of total offense (325-passing, 268-rushing) rank as the 12th-most in school history as it also had a season-high 268 yards rushing. W, 56-48 --- IDAHO STATE Junior guard Preston Medlin scored a team-high 14 points and junior college transfer Spencer Butterfield added nine second-half points to help Utah State claw out a 56-48 home win against Idaho State Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. With the win, Utah State improves to 14-1 in its first game of the year under head coach Stew Morrill, including an 8-0 record at home. Overall, USU has now won 18 of its last 19 season openers dating back to the 1993-94 campaign. USU also improved to 179-15 under Morrill when allowing less than 60 points in a game. Medlin finished the night shooting 5-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the free throw, while Butterfield was 3-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Junior center Jarred Shaw added eight points and game-high nine rebounds for Utah State, while senior forward Kyisean Reed had seven points and five rebounds. Utah State finished the game shooting 46.8 percent from the field (22-47), 42.9 percent from three-point range (6-14) and 60.0 percent at the free throw line (6-10). Idaho State shot 39.6 percent overall (19-48), including just 27.3 percent from behind the arc (6-22) and 57.1 percent at the line (4-7). USU also dominated the glass and out-rebounded ISU by 13 (36-13), while recording four more assists (15-11) and two more blocked shots (5-3). Idaho State did finish the game with three more steals (10-7) and five fewer turnovers (17-12). CROSS COUNTRY... Utah State s cross country teams concluded its 2012 seasons at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships this past weekend in Fort Collins, Colo. The USU women ended the day in 10th-place with 326 points, while the men tallied 315 points to finish 14th. Senior Alex Litzsinger led all Aggie harriers as she finished in 19th-place with a time of 21:08.4 in the women s six-kilometer race. Freshman Tylee Newman crossed the finish line in 64th-place (22:13.4), joining Litzsinger as the two top-75 finishers for the Utah State women. On the men s side, junior Kyle McKenna was the first to cross the finish line for the USU men in the 10-kilometer race, as he placed 26th with a time of 30:53.1, followed by sophomore Eric Shellhorn (44th, 31:31.3) and senior Aaron Clements (74th, 32:32.6). Other finishers for the Aggie women were seniors Ruth Hilton (78th, 22:35.8) and Stephanie Burt (80th, 22:37.7), freshmen Jacqueline Winterton (85th, 22:45.3) and Kelsey Girardelli (98th, 23:10.2), as well as junior Hannah Williams (99th, 23:10.4). Senior guard Jenna Johnson ended the game with six points and six rebounds to lead USU on the boards. Christensen also added a team-high seven steals as the Aggies ended with 27. For the game, USU was 28-of-75 (.373) from the field, hitting 9-of-32 (.281) behind the three-point arc. The Aggies were also 16-of-22 (.727) at the free throw line. New Mexico Highlands was 41.8 percent (21-30) field goal shooting, making 5-of-12 (.417) from three-point range, and the Cowgirls were 21-of-30 (.700) at the charity stripe.
