IN THIS ISSUE 1 Terravista Aiming for G1 Manikato Stakes Success Tonight 3 Secret Spirit Shooting for Fifth Consecutive Blacktype 5 Red Striker Looking At Possible G1 Railway Stakes Tilt 7 2015 Ready to Run Breeze Up Results 9 2015 Star Stable Spring Competition: Week 3 Results 11 2015 Ready to Run Profile: Lot 274 13 One to Watch: Ruby Armani 15 Broodmare Profile: Gypsy Jewels 17 Roll Call Of Success 19 Runners to Follow Front Cover: Terravista defeats Chautauqua in the 2014 G1 Darley Classic, and the pair will once again face off in tonight s G1 Manikato Stakes.

TERRAVISTA AIMING FOR G1 MANIKATO STAKES SUCCESS TONIGHT Three of Australia s top sprinters go head-to-head tonight at Moonee Valley, with superstars Chautauqua, Buffering and Terravista facing off in what promises to be an explosive G1 Manikato Stakes. On four occasions Terravista has met Chautauqua and the score lies at two apiece, while Terravista has got the better of Buffering on the two occasions they have faced each other. Chautauqua and Terravista go into tonight with unbeaten records this spring, with Chautauqua a winner twice in Melbourne and Terravista a winner in the G2 Premiere Stakes at Randwick at his last start. Terravista s start to the spring was delayed by wet weather but once he got to the races he showed his customary turn of foot at Randwick at the beginning of the month, and has improved. Trainer Joe Pride was pleased after his last performance It was good to see him do that because you worry with these horses...i have said a lot about him and it is not usually my way but he is the best horse I have had. He has improved since that firstup run. If he gets it right he usually wins and hopefully he will do that on Friday. But when you get these top horses together you need to be at the top of your game and he has shown me he is at that. Last year s Manikato Stakes was taken out by Lankan Rupee, who misses the race this year due to injury, but the spectacular blanket finish meant just two and a half lengths covered all 12 runners, with Terravista had a luckless run being blocked in at his only run at Moonee Valley, but was still beaten less than half a length in fifth. Pride s plans for his star sprinter will depend on his performance in tonight s race This race is pivotal to everything going forward. We would like to go Hong Kong but I want to see how he goes on Friday. I don t want to say if he wins he will go to Hong Kong, it is not as easy as that. There are plenty of options after Friday, but he is going really well and we have drawn well, so we are expecting to see the real Terravista. I always have a lot of confidence in him. PAGE 1

SECRET SPIRIT SHOOTING FOR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE BLACKTYPE High class Swiss Ace filly Secret Spirit is preparing to shoot for a remarkable fifth stakes win in succession when she takes on the field in tomorrow s Listed Soliloquy Stakes at Ellerslie. The Lance O Sullivan & Andrew Scott trained three year old s four consecutive blacktype victories have all come on significantly rain-affected tracks, but regular rider Craig Grylls has confidently predicted that a drier track will hold no fears for Secret Spirit, while co-trainer Lance O Sullivan is more cautious. We think she ll handle a drier track, and we re hoping it will suit her, but it s fair to say we d be very surprised if she actually preferred it, he told The Informant. She s so good on those rain-affected tracks, and you don t often see horses who are that good in the wet and then improve when the tracks dry out. We do think she ll handle it okay, but we d be a lot more confident going into the race if the conditions were different. To be honest, I hope it rains! O Sullivan and Scott have skilfully guided Secret Spirit through a long campaign dating back to the Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes in late May, followed by wins in the the Listed Ryder Stakes and Listed Fillies Stakes, capped off by last month s sensational G3 Bonecrusher Stakes victory, which was also her second Ellerslie stakes win. She s been doing really well since the Bonecrusher, we re very pleased with her, O Sullivan said. She looks bright and well. She s great. She s so consistent and competitive, she s just a little racehorse. Secret Spirit has shown no sign of slowing down now, and if she performs up to expectations again tomorrow there will be no reason not to push on to the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton for which she is currently the race favourite. Secret Spirit s fantastic season has also helped propel her sire Swiss Ace to the top of NZ s Leading 3YO sires by earnings. PAGE 3

RED STRIKER LOOKING AT POSSIBLE G1 RAILWAY STAKES TILT A tilt at the G1 Railway Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year s Day could be the reward for talented sprinter Red Striker if she progresses the way trainer Jim Collett expects her to this preparation. The Red Giant four-year-old mare resumes tomorrow at Te Awamutu over 1100m, and with good trial form around last weekend s impressive Otaki winner Enigma Machine, Collett expects her to make her presence felt. Collett noted That horse has made the form look good because she trialled up really nicely behind him. She was just there for a fitness run, but I was happy with what she did. She s not fully tuned up because we ve got bigger fish to fry later on, but she s ready to race and she ll be competitive. Safely through tomorrow s race, the Gerry Harvey-bred and raced daughter of Red Giant will prepare for next month s Listed Counties Bowl at Avondale, with the Listed Newmarket Handicap at Ellerslie on Boxing Day also on Collett s radar, and the G1 Railway Stakes a possible target after that. We ll just try and get some black-type for her. She s a really nice mare and she s well capable of doing that and that would increase her value. We ll just see how she progresses but if she could get into that race on a nice light weight, we d like to give her the opportunity. She s very competitive when they go fast. Red Striker has won two of her 10 starts and only once missed a placing, when finishing fifth. The tough filly is already a blacktype performer with a tantalisingly close second behind Swiss Ace colt Passing Shot in her last start in the G3 Mr Tiz Trophy in February this year. PAGE 5

ONE TO WATCH: RUBY ARMANI Age/Sex: Breeding: Owner: Breeder: Trainer: 3YO Bay Filly Makfi x Trujillo B.A.X No.2 Syndicate Mrs H G, Miss K B & W G Bax & I D Troughton Michael Moroney & Chad Ormsby Makfi filly Ruby Armani posted an impressive debut victory this week at Tauranga, where despite sitting three wide without cover, she proved too strong for what looked a good maiden field in the Matamata Vet Services Maiden 3YO event over 1200m. Raced by Kylie Bax s B.A.X No.2 Syndicate, Ruby Armani was bred by Kylie in conjunction with parents Graham & Helen-Gaye Bax and ID Troughton, is trained by Chad Ormsby and Mike Moroney at Matamata and the Makfi filly was ridden superbly by Alysha Collett. Collett let the filly find her feet and travel where she was most comfortable, which proved to be the winning move. Ruby Armani was full of running approaching the bend and eventually proved too strong for her rivals over the final stages winning by 1.25 lengths. Ruby Armani s sire Makfi has had an absolutely stellar start to his career at stud, with five stakes winners and five group wins, including dual G1 winning colt Make Believe, and G1 winner and 2014-15 Champion NZ 2YO Marky Mark and currently leads the NZ Second Season Sires Table by earnings, thanks to the efforts of horses like Massu Lu, Sofia Rosa and now Ruby Armani. Click Here to view Ruby Armani s fantastic debut win. PAGE 13

BROODMARE PROFILE: GYPSY JEWELS Breeding: Owner: Breeder: Jade Robbery x Glory Girl NZ Thoroughbred Holdings Ltd G Harvey This week s broodmare profile looks at Gypsy Jewels, a winner in Australia, who has been well represented by her progeny since retiring to stud having produced four foals to race, all winners, including Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview winner The Travelling Man, stakes performer Precious Sophia and Clip The Ticket. The Graeme & Debbie Rogerson trained and owned Precious Sophia (pictured) retired with one win and two placings, including a gallant second in the Listed Seaton Park Wellesley Stakes, and has now entered her second career at stud, and is currently in foal to Savabeel. Clip The Ticket, Gypsy Jewels son by Swiss Ace, has already proven himself successful in Singapore, with 11 starts for two wins and six placings. Gypsy Jewels boasts an impressive pedigree being the daughter Australian G2 winner Glory Girl, making her a half-sister to the stakes-placed performer Woodgrain, and closely related to stakes winning horses British Lion and Unanimously. Gypsy Jewels recently foaled a filly to Reliable Man, and is back in foal to the dual G1 winning son of Dalakhani. PAGE 15
