ELIAS SAYS: Emergency starter Williams Perez allowed only two Phillies to reach base safely (Howard HR, Galvis single) in 8.0 innings of work in Atlanta's 5-1 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday Perez is the first Braves pitcher to allow two or fewer baserunners in 8.0 or more innings in nearly five years The last to do so was Jair Jurrjens, who allowed only one hit and one walk in a complete-game shutout over the Baltimore Orioles on July 1, 2011. MAMA, I M COMIN HOME!: The Phillies finally head home tonight after spending 19 of the last 22 days on the road (since 4/21)... Overall, Philadelphia has played the most road games in the majors this season (21) and the fewest home games (13) Despite the rough early season schedule, the Phillies are one of only seven Major League teams this year with a record above.500 both at home (8-5) and on the road (11-10) They share that distinction with the Chicago Cubs (12-5 home, 13-3 road), New York Mets (9-6 H, 12-6 R), Washington Nationals (10-5 H, 11-8 R), Boston Red Sox (11-7 H, 10-6 R), Chicago White Sox (10-5 H, 13-7 R) and Seattle Mariners (8-7 H, 13-6 R) Philadelphia can make up for lost time, however, as they will spend 20 of the next 27 days at home. HOUSE MAJORITY WHIP: Over the first six weeks of the 2016 season, Phillies teammates Aaron Nola and Vince Velasquez rank 2 nd and 5 th, respectively, among all National League starters in WHIP (see chart below) They also rank among the league leaders in WAR (Nola is 5 th at 1.5; Velasquez is 9 th at 1.2) and strikeouts (Nola is 8 th with 49; Velasquez is T-11 th with 44) As a whole, the Phillies rotation currently ranks 3 rd in the majors in WHIP this season (1.12), trailing only the Chicago Cubs (1.00) and Washington Nationals (1.11) Last year, Philadelphia finished 29 th (1.45), just ahead of the Colorado Rockies (1.51). LOWEST WHIP, NATIONAL LEAGUE STARTERS, 2016 1. Clayton Kershaw, LAD 0.77 (3 BB, 38 H, 53.0 IP) 2. AARON NOLA, PHI 0.85 (8 BB, 31 H, 46.0 IP) 3. Jake Arrieta, CHI 0.88 (16 BB, 26 H, 48.0 IP) 4. Jaime Garcia, STL 0.95 (15 BB, 28 H, 45.1 IP) 5. VINCE VELASQUEZ, PHI 0.96 (11 BB, 25 H, 37.1 IP) TURNER BURNER: Last night, first baseman Ryan Howard hit his 22 nd career home run at Turner Field, extending his ballpark record for a visiting player (2 nd : David Wright, 19 HR; no other visiting player has more than 14) He is averaging one HR for every 14.09 at-bats at Turner Field, which is the highest rate for any player -- past or present -- with at least 150 at-bats in this ballpark (2 nd : Mike Piazza, 14.57) Overall, Howard is batting.283 with 29 2B, 51 HR and 148 RBI in 173 career games against the Braves. ON THIS DATE IN PHILLIES HISTORY: May 12, 1987 Phillies third baseman Mike Schmidt scored his 1,366 th career run, breaking Ed Delahanty s all-time club record The future Hall of Famer would go on to score 140 more runs in his career for a total of 1,506, a franchise record which still stands today The only recent threat to his mark was shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who scored 1,325 runs before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to the 2015 season Ryan Howard is the current active runs leader in the Phillies clubhouse with 824. NO OFFENSE, BUT : The Phillies have had a tough time mustering any offense so far on the young season They rank 29 th in the majors this year in total runs scored (108) and runs per game (3.18), leading only the Atlanta Braves in both categories (97, 3.03) Philadelphia s offense also ranks T-27 th among all ML teams in hits (249), 28 th in slugging % (.358), 29 th in batting (.226) and OPS (.636), and last in OBP (.280). HOME OF THE BRAVE: The Phillies have lost seven of their last nine games overall against the Braves and eight of their last 10 at Turner Field Philadelphia is looking for their first series win over Atlanta since July 30 to August 2, 2015 (3-1 at CBP) and their first at Turner Field since September 1-3, 2014 (2-1) The Phillies have failed to win a season series over the Braves since 2011 (12-6), going 8-11 in each of the last three years (2013, 14, 15) and 6-12 in 2012.
