Tennis News 1. Men's Monday Night Tennis is continuing to be competitive. Any men wishing to play should call Rick Turner at 787-2797. 2. The June Open Doubles Tournament was well played and lots of fun. A new format was used very successfully. The winner was Jamie Hoffman. Great coverage by the ES Post. 3. The next Open Doubles Tournament will be on Saturday, July 15 at 9:00 A.M. Relaxed, fun play is the key, so if you enjoy tennis in a social setting, come out and play. No registration needed. 4. Friday Open Tennis continues, starting at 4:30 P.M. The Tennis Committee Hi from the LGA. We ve had a busy past month in the LGA. We finished our WPGA team matches on June 7 th at the Elks who defeated us and thus moved on to the playoffs. This year has not been the best for our traveling team, but we hope for better results next year. June 8 th held an inaugural, exciting event for the ladies group. On that day, we had a tournament with ladies who took Alan s Golf 101/102 classes. LGA members were paired with members from the classes in a scramble format from the short course for nine holes. To a person, everyone had a great time. There was lots of excitement when the event was over as we reflected over lunch. Hopefully, the LGA will gain some new members through the event, and we will also gain some new friends. On June 13 th, we had a make-up forty dollar tournament. We played a team scramble. The team of Susan Duer, Barbara Murphy, and Ginger Meisenhelder was victorious. Congratulations, ladies. We turn our attention now to our Member/Guest Tournament which will be held on June 27 th. Results of that event will be forthcoming in the next LGA Corner. Looking to the future, on August 22 nd, we will hold our Invitational/Fund Raiser. A practice round will be offered on the 21 st for cart fee only followed by a cocktail party which is a highlight for members and guests alike. So find a partner and sign up for the event. It s a time for golf but also an opportunity to help the ESCADV which is so vital to our community. I hope each of you will plan to play in this special, exciting event. Finally, I m very pleased to announce that the Ladies Nine Hole Group of the LGA has been reinstated. There are a number of ladies who only wish to play 9 holes, and now they may do that and still be part of the LGA. Anyone interested needs to be a member of ESYCC and pay the $45 LGA dues. If there are the required 8 golfers playing on Ladies Day, you will have your own separate tournament when the 18 hole golfers are having theirs. That s all for this month. Hope to see each of you on the course. Remember visor on the ball, and don t try to kill the little darling when you swing. You might see better results. If only I could remember these two tips when I get on the course. Here s to happy, fun filled golfing. Peggy P.S. Anytime you play 9 holes, please post your scores even if you are not playing with an LGA member. The computer can use these scores to establish a handicap for you if you don t have one. Those of us who do have handicaps need to post these scores also.
