Lindsey Wilson vs. Saint Catharine Lindsey Wilson Sports Information (270) 384-8071 Women s Basketball Notes Blue Raiders Erase Halftime De cit at Georgetown Ashley Rainey poured in a game-high 26 points and eight rebounds and Viktoria Krell added 13 points - all in the second half - to push the 13th ranked Lindsey Wilson College women s basketball team past Georgetown (Ky.) College 83-76 on Saturday, Jan. 15 after trailing 41-29 at halftime in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. Sophomore Sarah Gillis added a career-high 11 points on three 3-pointers and seniors Diondra Anthony and Bethany Spillman both got into double gures with 10 points each. Brown ranks 19th in the NAIA in total blocks with 26 and 35th in the nation in total scoring with 289 points. As a team, the Patriots rank 22nd in offensive rebounds with 776 and 30th in total scoring offense with 1,309 points. Rainey Among the NAIA s Best Sophomore Ashley Rainey is in the top 10 of ve different NAIA statistical categories, including eld-goal percentage where she is fourth at 62.4 percent, points per game (20.0), ranking fourth, total scoring with 357 points which ranks fourth, as well as seventh in total rebounds with 176. The sophomore s 4.5 offensive rebounds per game rank seventh in the NAIA. Blue Raiders against Ranked Opponents Including the two ranked wins in the Daytona Beach Shootout in December, Lindsey Wilson has played ve opponents ranked in the NAIA Coaches Poll Top 25 this season. The Blue Raiders are 3-2 against those ranked teams. Can Krell be Greatest Scorer Too? Viktoria Krell is the best rebounder in program history with 1,107 boards. The next question is can she earn that same recognition in scoring? Currently at No. 2 on the all-time scoring list, Krell needs 352 points the rest of the season to overtake Donna Burden as the leading scorer in program history. The Bowling Green, Ky., native ranks eighth in the NAIA in assists per game at 5.5. Anthony ranks fth on Lindsey Wilson s all-time list as well with 416 dimes. Tifany Reid is the next player in front of her with 450, leaving Diondra needing 35 assists to pass her. Sizzling Shooters, Rabid Rebounders As a team, Lindsey Wilson is shooting 48.5 percent from the eld which ranks third in the NAIA. Nearly just as impressive, the Blue Raiders rank seventh in total rebound margin at 11.1. So far this season, Lindsey Wilson has just been outrebounded three times, however it still won the game on all three occasions. LWC allows just 30.5 rebounds per game which ranks third in the NAIA. Head Coach John B. Wethington Coach John B. Wethington enters his 22nd season in 2010-11 as the head of the Lindsey Wilson women s basketball program. Wethington has led the Blue Raiders to seven NAIA National Tournaments, including three straight and four out of the last ve. The Blue Raiders reached the tournament s Sweet 16 in two of the last three seasons. Lindsey Wilson is 412-262 under Wethington, including 11 seasons of at least 20 wins. His team s 25 wins in 2008-09 tied the program s record -- Wethington also led the 1992-93 team to 25 wins -- for most wins in a single season. Wethington has led the Blue Raiders to ve Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) championships prior to moving to the Mid-South Conference in 2000-01. In 2007-08, Wethington led the Blue Raiders to their second consecutive Mid- South Conference regular-season title. Lindsey Wilson nished the regular season 8-2 in league play after a 9-1 mark in 2006-07. Wethington has been honored ve times with conference coach of the year awards. Wethington was the 1990-91, 1996-97 and 1998-99 KIAC Women s Basketball Coach of the Year and 2006-07 and 2007-08 Mid-South Conference Women s Basketball Coach of the Year. Wethington earned his 400th win on November 5, 2010 in a 99-67 win over Morris College. Before being named head coach at Lindsey Wilson in 1989, Wethington spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the women s program. Wethington graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1987. Wethington served as head manager for the men s basketball program, which was coached by former college and NBA star Clem Haskins. Wethington was also a student assistant coach at LWC during the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons. Wethington is a native of Clementsville, Kentucky, and a 1982 graduate of Casey County High School. Wethington and his wife, Shelia, have two children, Mason and Brenna.
