Cycling mail 3 Year 5 14 October 2017 W.S.W.V. HELLINGPROOF ALV/Cobo On Tuesday 3 October we held our yearly ALV at Loburg. During the ALV all committee members were given a present for their amazing work for Hellingproof over the past year, the winners of the sprint and time trial classification got their trophies and all podium finishers got a gift card of our sponsor Peerenboom. Bart and Susan got a present for their wins in the sudentcup in the form of flowers and a pizza cutter. Next point on the agenda was the change of the board. When the new board was done with sharing their goals the coming year and all serious issue were dealt with, a Hellingproof quiz was held with cycling related and unrelated questions about past year to see who the most active hellingprof is(no winner was appointed because almost everyone failed within the first few quistions). Exactly one week later we held our second ever constitution drink. Board of other student sports associations from Wageningen and het former Hellingproof boards and other Hellingproof memberswere present to congratulate our new board. It turned out to be a successful event and we're planning to make this an annual activity! Activities Club Monday training 17:30 at the Bongerd. 2,3 Wednesday members training 17:30 at the Bongerd. 2,3 Training at Sports Centre the Bongerd Mountain biking: Thursday 14:00-16:00. 1 From the 1st of November Spinning: Wednesday 17:15-18:30. Strength Training: Wednesday 18:30-18:30 4 The first training will be followed by drinks at the Bongerd. 1 For this activity you have to sign up via the SITE/App of Sports Centre the Bongerd 2 Signing up is not necessary 3 Departure time may vary 4 Register by sending a mail to wielrenners.wageningen@gmail.com The new board members are the ones to ask all your questions and to let everybody know who we are, we will all introduce ourselves briefly: Alger Hi, I'm Alger and I am this year's chairman of Hellingproof. I'm currently 21 years old. I was also part of last year's board as the treasurer and with this experience I think I'll be able to lead the board to a successful year for Hellingproof both on and off the bike. My current bike is a Giant TCR. The new board congratulates the old board and presented them with all off the Hellingproof essentials. Sigrid Hi everyone! My name is Sigrid and I am almost 22 years old. This year I started the master MME. Last year, I was in the board of Thymos, but I think I can still learn a lot from this board! Since I started training only one year ago, there are still many things for me to discover about cycling. The bike that I ride is a Wilier Escape, and together

we already went on a lot of adventures. My ambitions for cycling on the longer term is to be better at racing, and maybe even win a medal!!!! But my ambition for this winter is to start mountain biking. To fulfil my dreams, I started to eat healthier instead of only fries and crisps (as you can see in the picture). I hope to see you all at the training, at our activities and at the races! activities are made possible by my bikes, which are in the category racing bikes: Giant TCR Advanced FF / Giant Propel Advanced Pro, MTB/Beachbike: Trek x-caliber viper red, track/fixed gear: Dracat piste and not to forget my city bikes: 40 year old simplex and BSP transporter bike. The role of competition commissioner is for me a new function but also for the board of Hellingproof. I will, of course, do my best to complete this function as well and nicely as possible. My goal as a board member and competition commissioner is to introduce all Hellingprofs to a form of cycling competition, this can be an official race like a student cup but also our own time trial competition for example. Gijs I m Gijs, 12 euhh 21 years old (single), usually biking on the never forsaking and well known Rose Xeon RS-3000, and recently started with two masters: Biotechnology and Nutrition and Health. My cycling ambitions consist mainly of having a good time on the bike while also being a little competitive once in a while (I don t perform too well under pressure). This year I am fulfilling the role of treasurer within the Hellingproof board. My goal as a board member is to enable all Hellingprofs to have an awesome year with lots of cycling, competitions, and other activities. This will be necessary for maintaining the reputation of Hellingproof as the most active and successful student sports association in Wageningen. Bas My name is Bas Overdevest, for this year I am fulfilling the role of competition commissioner. I m 21 years old, I m in my third year of the bachelor special planning and now also currently in the learn to be a geography teacher. Besides my study I also work in a bike shop. All of my cycling Rutger My name is Rutger Visser and currently I am a 3 rd student Food Technology. Last summer, I bought my bike which is a Giant Propel Advanced 2. I just enjoy biking and once in a while I like to be a little competitive. This year I will be the secretary from Hellingproof. I hope that we together will have an awesome year in which we will have a lot of nice activities. Tjalle Hi, my name is Tjalle and coming year I'll be the main editor of the cycling mail! I'm 19 years old and I'm currently in my second year of the Bachelor International Land and Water Management. I ride a Ridley Fenix road bike, a Cube Attention mountain bike and because I ride on a time trail bike once a month, I have two of them(a Felt and a Duratec). With my function as commissioner internal I'm going to try to keep you all informed and entertained by reading the cycling mail! Committees It is the time of the year again were you can join our amazing committees to earn yourself a chocolate letter at next year's ALV! If you don't know how you can help Hellingproof than read these short descriptions of our committees. Activity Committee The activity committee organizes all sort of activities on and off the bike throughout the whole year. They organize the Helllingproof introduction trainings, training weekends, the end of the year BBQ, Sinterklaas and more. The committee currently consists of Els, Bart, Martijn, Julie, Onno and Tjalle Sponsor Committee The sponsorship committee tries to recruit new sponsors for our awesome association. Therefore, we contact Dutch companies and gauge stores in Wageningen for their interest in sponsoring Hellingproof. The efforts of the sponsorship committee have already resulted in nice collaborations with Profile Roel Peerenboom, Prins Projectmanagement & Advies, and Café Loburg. Currently, the sponsorship committee consists of Rutger, Niels, Robin and Gijs. GNSK Committee The GNSK cycling committee will organize the cycling races during the GNSK event. The Great Dutch Student Championship (GNSK) ( in Dutch: Groot Nederlands Studenten Kampioenschap )is the largest multi-day student sports event in the Netherlands. The event will this year be held in Wageningen. The committee currently consists of Bas and Tjalle GNSK Triathlon Committee Triathlon is also a part of this year's GNSK and the GNSK board has asked us for at least one member for the triathlon committee to help organize the cycling part of the event. You don't need to have any triathlon experience. If you're interested in joining one of the committee don't hesitate to contact us at wielrenners.wageningen@gmail.com! Sports rights Are you a Hellingproof member, but not in possession of sports rights? We kindly ask you to purchase these via the website of SC de Bongerd. First of all, because it is obligatory if you want to be a Hellingproof member, and secondly because the training hours will be granted to all student sport clubs by checking the number of members that have sport rights. So, if you know someone who is not a Hellingproof member yet, make sure they contact us or sign up before the end of as soon as possible. it is important for our training hours! Interview Since the start of the new academic year we gained a lot of new members, some of them immediately joined us at all of our training rides and activities and got to know a lot of our older member. In this edition's interview you got the chance to get to know of our new members a bit better. Name: Ehlana Haring Age: 19 Where do you originate from? Cuijk What is your current study and/or work? I m a second year bachelor student food technology and in the weekends I work at the Lidl in Cuijk

What kind of bicycles do you use? I have two normal bikes, one in Wageningen and one in Cuijk. And I have a road bike Winter Training A lot of people are already subscribed for the strength training sessions which will be held from the 1st of November. Nevertheless, 3 places are still available. The deadline is Monday 16 October, so you can still subscribe until coming Monday. First come first serve. These training sessions start at 18.30 until 19.30 Ehlana's road bike. When did you start cycling? When I was about 3 or 4 years old I had a small bike with side wheels. And I bought my road bike in January this year, but I started cycling on it in April because it was too cold. What are your hobbies besides cycling? Photography, reading, making road trips with the train, chatting with friends and eating The 1st November is also the day the Spinning sessions start. Each Wednesday until the end march, there is a spinning session from 17.15 up to 18.30. You can still join the session until 17.30. Although there is not much time in between, it is of course also possible to do spinning as well as the strength training. Multiple people will do this. On the 1st of November, after the spinning and strength training we will have a small drink in the Bongerd pub. What is your greatest cycling experience? I don t have my road bike for very long, but I like all rides with good weather. And when I was 12 years old I cycled with my father to my uncle on our normal bikes (75 km), that was also great. What is it about Hellingproof that made you want to become a member? I like it that there are also other activities, and I want to cycle faster Until the first of November we will still be organizing our training rides outside and on the Mondays training will probably continued throughout the whole winter. Keep an eye on the Facebook member page for the departure times. Fietscafé Peerenboom Friday the 27th of October our sponsor Peerenboom organizes their second Fietscafé, this time there will be a demonstration on bike maintenance and you can practice on your own bike with assistance of the staff. The event will start at 20:00, if you want to join you have to send a mail to marketing@profilepeerenboom.nl for pre registration. Ehlana during the introduction weekend!

From the dictionary We've noticed that some of the new Dutch members have difficulties to make a distinction between ''Hellingproof'' and ''Hellingproef'', so here you can find a part of the dictionary explaining the difference. If you notice anyone who uses the wrong spelling, feel free to correct them on their mistake. Hellingproef Uitspraak: [ˈhɛlɪŋpruf] [rijexamen] - De hellingproef is een onderdeel uit het rijexamen, en bestaat eruit een auto zonder achteruit te rollen vanuit stilstand vanaf een helling bergop te laten wegrijden. Hellingproef organiseert inhoudelijke, interactieve en originele activiteiten en biedt een netwerk aan jongeren die geïnteresseerd zijn in wetenschap, politiek en ideologie. Vanuit verschillende expertises werpen studenten en afgestudeerden een frisse blik op groene en linkse politiek. Training camp Spain During the resit exam period in February we will leave the Dutch winter for the warmth of southern Spain. During this pre season training camp the aim is to improve our fitness so we can win the overall classification of next season's student cup series, but even if you're not planning on doing any racing next year you're more than welcome to join. If you want to join make sure you send a mail to wielrenners.wageningen@gmail.com before 21 October so we can the organization. Heel Hellingproof bakt season 2 and Sinterklaas! This year we will host the second season of Heel Hellingproof bakt! There's no official date, but expect it to be late November. Start your preparation by optimizing your recipe,think of a new recipe or stick to the one you used last year(maybe not the best idea for Niels...). This year we will organize Sinterklaas at 5 December, more information will follow soon but make sure you save the date! [Wielrennen] - Hellingproof, of W.S.W.V. Hellingproof, is een studentenwielervereniging te Wageningen. De naam verwijst naar trainer Casper Helling, alsmede naar het vermogen van leden om probleemloos een schuin oplopend of aflopend vlak op straat of in een landschap te weerstaan. Leden worden ook wel Hellingprofs genoemd.
