Monthly E-Notes ~ January 2016 Happy January, Music Association Members! January finds many of us making those lists of New Year s resolutions. What s on yours? Does it include staying involved with the Music Association? Maybe it includes getting involved for the first time. We hope to see you through the remaining months of school and we certainly welcome you to volunteer when you can. It s never too late to support your children s music endeavors. The NHMA gives you the chance to share a bit of these high school music experiences. Remember December: Marching band families gathered for the annual Marching Band Banquet on Wednesday, December 2. What a fantastic way to honor the hard work of band members and directors and to celebrate the band s season. Just like the field show, the banquet was a 4 Stars evening and all were treated to good food and conversation. Congratulations to the entire band on a job well done. Congratulations to all who were honored that night. See later in E-Notes for a listing of award recipients. Michelle Smith, Linda Garvey and Sue Adams our banquet team thank you for yet another memorable event. And extra thanks to the Brenckle family for the donation of many of our delicious desserts. The NHMA hosted our second bake sale on Thursday, December 3. Thanks to our generous bakers, we had plenty of treats to offer in the mall after school. Thank you to Linda Garvey for running the sale and to all volunteers who made this possible. It was a double treat on Friday, December 4, as we got to see both Santa and our Golden Lions Marching Band in the Clinton Christmas Parade. Festive and fun, it was a terrific way to begin the holiday season. The band members also celebrated with a post-parade party back at school.

The holiday atmosphere continued with our two winter concerts on Thursdays, December 10 and 17. The student performances again exceeded expectations. All audience members were treated to special evenings filled with choral and instrumental arrangements. We hope all enjoyed the NHMA-sponsored dessert receptions which followed each concert. Linda Garvey, we thank you for organizing these lovely events. And to all who supported our NHMA fundraisers in the lobby thank you! We hope you got to take a little music home. We offered pancakes and performances at our annual Applebee s Flapjack Fundraiser. On Saturday, December 19, we had our music students working early hosting and serving breakfast, and performing live seasonal songs to our customers. Thank you, Nancy Gaidos, for keeping this fun tradition going. Thanks to all students who gave up their Saturday morning to share their talents and helping hands. Join Us in January: Friday, January 29: The PTSA-sponsored Battle of the Bands. You may find some of our music students rocking the stage! See flyer on next page. Saturday, January 30: NHMA Concessions Table at the College Workshop at NHHS. Bring a little loose change to the workshop and SAT/ACT Practice. We ll be selling snacks to keep you going through the morning. Mark Your Calendars: January 29: Battle of the Bands January 30: College Workshop and Practice SAT-ACT March 3, 4 & 5: NHTO Winter Musical (Sweeney Todd) March 17: Prism Concert 8:00 PM Winter Musical: Thursday March 3 Friday March 4 Saturday March 5 7:00 PM Thursday, March 17
