The Mean Green will get home games against UT Rio Grande Valley (Nov. 20) and Grambling State (Nov. 27). North Texas will face Georgia Tech on the road on Nov. 24. All five teams will be playing each other for the showcase. Ryan Woolridge Running The Offense North Texas sophomore point guard Ryan Woolridge leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game in three games and is third in rebounding at 5.7 boards per game. Woolridge scored 21 points in the season opener against Eureka College and added 14 points at Nebraska. Woolridge added 18 points, three assists and four rebounds in the win against Bethune-Cookman Holston Earns First Start Of The Season Junior guard Allante Holston earned the start against Bethune-Cookman and finished with nine points and five rebounds. Holston had a alley-oop dunk off a pass from Ryan Woolridge. Holston is fourth on the team in scoring at 10.0 points per game. 2016-17 2017-18 PPG: 2.3 10.0 RPG: 2.7 6.0 Creating Turnovers Key To Winning North Texas opened the season with just 12 turnovers and forced 25 to defeat Eureka College by 57 points, 122-65. In the first road contest, the Mean Green had 17 turnovers and only forced 12 in the loss at Nebraska 86-67. UNT was limited to just eight points off turnovers in the loss against the Cornhuskers. The Mean Green had 13 turnovers in the win against Bethune-Cookman and forced 15 from the Wildcats. Bounce-Back Game For Roosevelt Smart Sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart only had five points at Nebraska but rebounded against Bethune-Cookman with a team-high 22 points. Smart is averaging 22.5 in two home wins and is shooting 88.2 percent from the free throw line after going 11-for-13 against the Wildcats. Home Cooking at the Super Pit North Texas will play three of its next four games at the Super Pit. In the home opener, the Mean Green earned a 122-65 win against Eureka College. The Mean Green earned a 90-78 win against Bethune-Cookman and are averaging 106 points per game in home wins. UNT has been historically good at home with a 62.6 winning percentage. The Mean Green have had a winning record at home in 13 of the last 14 seasons.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP The Mean Green opened the Ramblin Wreck Showcase with a 90-78 win at home against Bethune-Cookman. Sophomore Roosevelt Smart led the team with 22 points and sophomore A.J. Lawson scored a season-high 19 points with seven rebounds. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since UT Rio Grande Valley changed their name from UT Pan American in 2015. UTPA leads the all-time series with a 13-9 record. The Mean Green have won four-straight. North Texas is 4-7 in games played in Denton dating back to 1977. In the last meeting, North Texas cruised to a 84-45 home win against UTPA on Feb. 15, 2006. Four North Texas players finished in doublefigures, including Calvin Watson who had 11 points in 25 minutes. UT Rio Grande Valley is 2-2 on the season after falling 75-58 on the road at Texas State. UTRGV picked up a win against Bethune-Cookman 92-74 and are 1-0 in the Ramblin Wreck Showcase. The Vaqueros only other win is a road win at Texas A&M Corpus Christi 82-75 in overtime. Senior guard Nick Dixon has started all four games and is leading the team in scoring at 22.5 points per game. Dixon is also tied for the team lead with 10 offensive rebounds. Xavier McDaniel, Jr., is second on the team at 12.8 points per game. Dixon is 33-for-41 at the free throw line in four games and as a team are shooting 91-for-129, 70.5 percent. Lawson Has Breakout Game Sophomore A.J. Lawson had only scored eight points in two games before exploding for 19 points and seven rebounds against Bethune- Cookman. Lawson scored more points then his previous two games combined and hit two threepointers in the win. McCasland Effect Three Games In Head coach Grant McCasland has made significant improvements on both offense and defense compared to last year. North Texas has scored 30 points per game more and has turned the ball over 13 less times in three games. The Mean Green also have created more steals with 21 compared to 13 last season. 2016-17 (1-2) 2017-18 (2-1) Points Per Game: 63.3 93.0 Points allowed: 76.7 76.3 Turnovers: 55 42 Steals: 13 21 The Lone Senior - Shane Temara Senior forward Shane Temara earned the start in his first game of the 2017-18 campaign and took advantage with 15 points off 6-for-7 shooting and grabbed six rebounds in 18 minutes against Eureka College. Temara continued to start the season strong with a double-double at Nebraska scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Temara scored in double-figures for the thirdstraight game after 11 points against Bethune- Cookman. Temara is third on the team in scoring at 14 points per game. Michael and Michal Miller Junior college transfer Michael Miller has a twin sister Michal Miller who started her basketball career at Arizona before transferring to Trinity Valley community college in Athens. Both siblings are very close and wear the same number (23). Michal Miller has led Trinity Valley to a perfect 5-0 record and is averaging 15 points per game, including two 20-point games. Jahmiah Simmons Will Redshirt 2017-18 Sophomore forward Jahmiah Simmons will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules. Simmons played in 25 games last season at Arkansas State and led the team with 19 blocks in Sun Belt Conference play. Simmons had an eventful summer gaining valuable experience in the 2017 Americup playing for his native country, the Virgin Islands. Simmons played in five games and finished with 25 points. 2018 C-USA Tournament Hosted at The Star North Texas won t have to travel far for the 2018 Conference USA Tournament that will be held in Frisco at the Ford Center at the Star, practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys. The championship tournament is scheduled for March 7-10 with all 22 games - 11 men s and 11 women s games at the Star. Non-Conference Road Tests North Texas has five more non-conference road games left against solid opponents at Georgia Tech (Nov. 24), at Oklahoma (Nov. 30), at UT Arlington (Dec. 2), at San Diego (Dec. 16 and at Georgetown (Dec. 20). The Yellowjackets were the runner-up at the NIT and UTA won two NIT games and finished with 27 wins last season. North Texas Picked To Finish 11th In C-USA The Mean Green was predicted to finish 11th out of 14 teams in the 2017 Conference USA men s basketball preseason poll. North Texas finished 14th in 2016-17 after a 2-16 C-USA record. The defending C-USA regular season and tournament champion Middle Tennessee received eight first place votes to top the poll. Mean Green Basketball Connections The North Texas men s basketball director of basketball operations Jon Trilli is the son of former Mean Green head coach Vic Trilli (1997-01). Jon Trilli played at Midwestern State under Grant McCasland and was a DOBO at Arkansas Little Rock last season. Graduate manager Chris Blakeley is the grandson of former Mean Green head coach Bill Blakeley who amassed the third most wins (134) in school history from 1976-83.
