ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary There are only 2 weeks now till race day, so I thought I d send you a final update as of today 1st February. I know some of you have received previous emails but some have not so hopefully this will reach everyone who has thus far registered. There are over 280 people registered for the race, with entries closing at 300 to this end if you know of anyone who is going to race but has still not entered then please give them a nudge. ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary Start Times We have looked at the times entered for this event and are happy that we can now push the start time back 1 hour to give you more time for travelling, breakfast, the night after Valentines etc. and still have you all back home before mid afternoon. The start times for the race will now be:- FULL - 09:00 HALF - 10:00 10K 11:00 REGISTRATION Full from 08:00 to 08:45 race brief at 08:50 start 09:00 Half from 09:10 to 09:45 race brief at 09:50 start 10:00 10k from 10:10 to 10:45 race brief at 10:50 start 11:00 You will pick up your race numbers at registration, nothing will be sent in the post, parking is free on site, please park in the designated area for our race which will be clearly marked. All we ask is that you are there and ready for the race brief having had your race kit checked the brief will go over any last minute updates, weather report and any course changes if needed on the day. Race timing will be done via our web scorer ipad app, when you cross the line please make sure your number is visible and you check with the scorer that you have been recorded. Your race numbers will have check boxes that need to be crossed off at the check points/feed stations, please make sure you are correctly marked before setting off on the next part of your run. Cut Off Time There is no cut off for the 10k however the half and full have until 3pm to complete the course. This gives you a race time of 6hrs Full and 5hrs Half. Some of you have emailed back panicking about the cut off. The reason behind the given time is; when you registered you entered an estimated time for how long it will take you, noone entered over 6 hours, so that s why we have pushed the start time back. If you are struggling to make the cut off time we will have back markers who will stay with you and guide you back to the finish. You will only be pulled off the course if you look unwell or will clearly not be able to finish within a reasonable time of the course closing. ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary Feed stations We will be providing 4 feed stations along the (half) route this means the full will have 9 and the 10k 1. All of these will have water & Coke, there will be extra goodies along the route too. Feed station 1-2.6 miles - Full, Half & 10k Feed station 2-6.7 miles - Full & Half Feed station 3-9.6 miles - Full & Half Feed station 4-12.4 miles - Full & Half Feed station 5-13.2 miles - Full (half way) & Half (finish) Feed station 6-14.4 miles - Full Feed station 7-17 miles - Full Feed station 8-20 miles - Full Feed station 9-24.1 miles - Full Finish 26.6ish miles!! - Jelly Babies & GU gels vanilla - Bananas & crisps - Mini mars bars - Jelly Beans - All of the above - Jelly Beans - Mini mars bars - Bananas & crisps - Jelly Babies & GU gels vanilla - All of the above Please make sure you have your own Energy Bars / Snacks and Water Bottle or Hydration System - 750ml capacity Full / 500ml Half as mentioned in the kit list our feed stations are providing you will additional supplies not a full Sunday lunch! Should you have any dietary requirements then please supply your own nutrition along the route. Remember to get your number checked at each feed station. There will be limited first aid at these stations antiseptic wet wipes etc. so please make sure you have the small first aid kit as per kit list below. We will have 5 floating marshals/medics on course, if you need one of them just ask, they will stop and assist you. Having done the recce this week, using Asics Gel Trail Attack shoes, at the moment you will be fine in a normal pair of road/trail running shoes, there is very little mud/puddles to contend with and the ground is very hard and compact. Not much grass to slip around on but there is plenty of loose stone/gravel etc. Keep your eye on the weather conditions it s down to you what you choose for the day.

ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary The Flat Stretch from Chesil out to Ferry Bridge and back to the sailing academy, this section is NOT along Chesil Beach, you will run along the footpath/cycle path adjacent to the road down to Ferry Bridge, cross under the bridge (depending on tide) and run back to the sailing academy along Hamm Beach. The remainder of the course is mainly off road. Please wear the correct footwear to suit the weather conditions. The course will be marked with yellow & black arrows on yellow boards, the 10k route will split at feed station1, you will follow the alternative coloured orange signs from there. Also by the very big wooden poles with the South West Coastal path signs along with a very well worn path. Hopefully this will be enough to get you round safely, (Half) if you have the sea on your left at all times then you can t go wrong! He says, knowing some of you are navigationally challenged!! (Full when you change direction the sea will be on your right!) Please follow the redirection signs around the coastal erosion areas and don t try and skip through, this is only an area of 500m or so, no big re-route needed. Marshals will be in prominent places and are there for your safety, please stay to the correct route just in case we need to find you.

ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary Dropping Out hopefully you won t get ill or injured, but if you do need to drop out, contact the nearest marshal. If you are able, make your way to the nearest water station where medical attention and return arrangements can be organised. List of Do s. Only run it if you are physically and medically fit. Complete the reverse of your race number with contact info and any medical details. Wear your race number on your front and have it visible at the finish (or you ll cause problems for the timekeepers). Dress for the occasion - Portland weather varies from very warm to bitterly cold and wet.. Obey marshals and back markers at all times, especially if told to shortcut or even withdraw. The List of DON Ts. Park in the main area of the Sailing Academy, use parking places provided.. Be late. Wee in front of members of the public - available toilets at start and en route at Portland Bill. Drop litter - all feed stations have bin bags so use them. Run with dogs or walking poles this is neither a Canicross event or Nordic walking race.. Start before the official race start or without a race number Kit List Having had a look at what we will be providing on the day and to minimize the kit you will need to carry we have come up with a slimmed down version to keep you all safe. The following items are mandatory to wear or carry for all those participating in the Marathon and Half Marathon categories. This kit is also highly recommended for 10K runners. Windproof Jacket - Full: long sleeves; Half: short or long sleeves Water Bottle or Hydration System - 750ml capacity Full / 500ml Half Basic First Aid Kit - (blister) plasters; antiseptic wipes; 1 x wound dressing Emergency Foil Blanket Energy Bar / Snacks lots of these will be provided on course too. Mobile Phone -waterproofed in a sandwich bag or Gucci case, your choice! Hat or Tech headwear Whistle All of this I m sure you already have and race with and can be easily carried in a small bag/bum bag or hydration pack. Litter Please do not drop any litter around this beautiful coastline, anyone seen to drop litter will be automatically banned from this and all other BustinSkin Events. If you can carry it full you can carry it empty. Put it in the bins provided at the aid station or keep it in your bag.

ThePortlandCoastalMarathonincludingtheHalf&10k:15thFebruary Trophies There will be prizes and awards for the top three females and males in each event. The prize giving will be done soon after we have these people back so they can get on with their day (ie there is no formal awards ceremony).
