2 Shelby County Gran Prix Stage Race 2018 The Shelby County Gran Prix is a new USA Cycling sanctioned, time-based stage race in Columbiana, Alabama (45 min south of Birmingham). The race includes three stages over the course of the weekend, starting with an individual time trial followed by two road races. The event will provide a challenging opportunity for racers from across the Southeastern US to compete. Racers are also invited to attend the Shelby County Shindig BBQ Competition, a 1,500 person annual festival located only two blocks from the start/finish. 3 Race Location The race base is located at 194 Washington St, Columbiana, AL 35051 *If you choose to park next to the community center during the road races, you may be temporarily delayed when leaving. Registration and Packet Pickup Details Registration Registration is available through https://www.bikereg.com/shelby-county-gran-prix Online Registration closes 7/11/2018 at Midnight. This event is pre-registration only. If you miss the registration deadline, please email us before race day to make arrangements Juniors must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver USA Cycling licenses are required, one-day license can be purchased onsite for $10/day for category 4/5 racers only Timing chips are required for all racers, if you have your own Mylaps chip, please enter it when registering. Otherwise they are $5 to rent for the weekend. The first 65 riders to register will get a free dri-fit race shirt
4 Team Registration Package - $500 We are encouraging teams to sign up and race together in the traditional format of 6-rider teams. Sign up 6 riders in one category and pay a total fee of $500 (comes out to $83/rider). Up to 8 riders in one category (for the same $500) Free timing chip rentals for the weekend Feature of team and roster on the website prior to race Rules regarding team signup Riders must all be in the same category Riders must have valid USAC licenses No more than 8 riders can be on a team package. If you have more than 8 riders, we suggest the extra 2 riders join up with another 4 from a different club to form a second team. Packet Pickup Times and Locations -Friday packet pickup PPU is from 6PM-10PM at the Race Base 194 Washington St, Columbiana, AL 35051 -Saturday Morning Packet Pick Up Opens at 6:00AM closes 15 minutes to last TT start time Shelby County Shindig Festival The Shelby County Arts Council would like to invite all the racers to come to the Shelby County Shindig! The Shindig is an annual BBQ and Music festival that attracts over 1,500 people annually. Your race entry fee gains you free admission to the event, which normally cost $10. Your admission does not include BBQ competition tasting/voting, but no worries mon, there will be plenty of food, drink and live music on site. Simply let the Shindig entry gate volunteer know you are a Shelby Gran Prix participant and they will let you in. (This does not include friends and family). 5 Saturday morning racers take off one at a time for a race against the clock just outside of Columbiana. Course - The course is 6.7 miles out and back on Mardis Ferry Rd/CR 31. Start Times: Start times will be sent out via email and posted on our website following registration close. 6 8:45AM Masters 40+ A 9:05AM Category 4/5 9:25AM Masters 40+ B 9:40AM Women s Open Parking Riders are encouraged to ride to the TT start from the race base instead of parking at the start/finish. IF you want to park by the start please park off the main road on Moore rd. DO NOT PARK on the TT course or on CR30. Time Trial Bike Rules and Regulations Bike must follow USA Cycling guidelines. Riders under 18 must be using junior gears on all bikes used. No fixed gear bikes. Timing Chips must be placed low on the fork for the Time Trial. The clock does not start until your chip crosses the line at the start and the finish. Please do not hang around the start/finish line after your race is completed as your chip will be read by the software and change your finish time. Do not return your timing chip after this race, ****Do not forget to switch your timing chip over from your TT bike to your road bike before stage 2.**** Results Posting and Podiums Results will be sent to the start/finish area following the finish of each category. Podiums for the TT will be held starting at 10:30 AM at the Race Base.

8 Support Vehicle: Each race has a follow vehicle that you can put spare wheels in. Wheels must be marked with racer bib #, and Team. Policy is wheels-in-wheels-out. IF you do not have spare wheels, please put a flat kit in the car or carry it with you. Stage races require you to finish the stage to move onto the next stage, please make accommodations. Feed Zone: The feed zone will be located after the start/finish where the barricades end. Neutral feeds might be available, but please do not count on it, it is dependent on the number of volunteers we have. ****DO NOT THROW YOUR TRASH OR BOTTLES ANYWHERE ON THE COURSE. If you are seen throwing trash anywhere outside of the feed zone, your GC time will be penalized. Parking: Parking is at the indicated parking lots in the map above. Team tents and team vehicles can park/setup at the community center parking lot. Restrooms: Racer restrooms are located across the street next to the football stadium parking lot. Results and Podium: Results will be posted next to the start/finish area. Results from the TT will also be shown here along with overall rankings as they are completed. Podiums and GC ceremony will be held 15 minutes after results are posted for each wave.

11 Other Awards and Prizes Medals will be given for each individual stage AND for the overall GC. Prizes from sponsors will be given in addition to medals for non-monetary categories. Prizes provided by: Stage Race Rules and Time Bonuses Rules are simple Riders are ranked in the overall based on the lowest overall time in each stage. The final GC is decided by the rider with the lowest cumulative time for all three stages. 12 Don t Litter! If we catch you littering or throwing bottles outside of the designated feed zone you will be docked 1 minute in the overall GC. Bib Number Placement and Timing Chips Bib Numbers each rider is issued two bib numbers. One will be on the RIGHT SIDE, and one will be in the CENTER OF THE BACK. DO NOT FOLD NUMBERS, DO NOT TRY TO PUT THEM OVER YOUR POCKETS LIKE THE TOUR DE FRANCE. If we can t see your number, your results might be incorrect. Pins are in the packet along with zip ties for your timing chip. If you need more, they are available at registration. Proper Number Placement NUMBERS ON THE RIGHT. 14 Please be respectful the community of Columbiana is happy to host the events, but racers are asked to please follow the rules and be courteous to local residents. Please do not change clothes out in the open Do not urinate in public or on nearby buildings. There are plenty of restrooms Please park legally and follow traffic laws Please pick up all of your trash, including banana peels, fruit etc Be aware of local traffic when warming up and riding around town Please support local businesses when possible.
