Blackheath Junior Section in 2017 Blackheath has an extremely popular and successful junior section of around 250 members. In the coming season, we will be running boys squads at all levels between U7 and U15, a separate girls section for U7-U11 girls and a Minis group for younger children (both boys and girls). Boys league cricket As usual, we will be running boys league teams at all levels between U8 and U15. Most squads run teams in both the West Surrey Youth Cricket League, and the associated West Surrey Youth Cricket Development League (formerly the Gladys Chitty League), which ensures that everyone gets an opportunity to play in matches of an appropriate standard, irrespective of ability. However, in the U14s and U15s age groups we will be running only teams in the West Surrey Youth Cricket League, and our U13s A team will be playing in a new invitational Surrey Premier League. There is no league for the U7s, however we generally organise at least a couple of friendly games for the squad against other local sides. Girls cricket Our girls section, run by Sharon Eyers of Middlesex CCC, now numbers nearly 30 girls (U7- U11). The girls played their first ever matches against other clubs in 2016, with great success. In 2017, we will be fielding both U9 and U11 teams in several triangular tournaments. We will also be introducing girls club kit. Minis We will be running a new Minis section this year, aimed at both boys and girls in Year 1 at school (U6s), although younger children may be allowed to join if space permits. The launch of this section is timed to coincide with the proposed national launch by the ECB of All Stars Cricket, a new entry level programme for 5 year olds upwards, which it is intended that we will be delivering.
Training sessions This year, our ever-popular summer Friday evening training sessions and family BBQs will start on Friday 21 April for all squads. Planned training times are: Minis from 4.30pm until 5.30pm; U7s-U10s and girls squad from either 5pm or 5.30pm until 6.30pm; U11s-U15s from 6.30-8pm. For the first time this year, all hard-ball squads will also have the option of midweek net sessions at the club during the summer, although for some squads this may be subject to numbers limits. In the meantime, optional winter training for all the boys league squads (U8s U15s) starts on Sunday 15 January at Duke of Kent and Cranleigh Schools: for full details see the next page. All summer and winter coaching sessions will be run by qualified coaches. We will have at around twenty qualified club coaches in 2017, including fourteen UKCC level 2 coaches and one level 3 coach - our head coach, Chris Poil. We will also be offering individual and 1:2 coaching to any juniors who would like it. Other activities Aside from training programmes and matches, the club also arranges various other activities. In 2017, we have plans for junior tours, our usual half term and summer holiday cricket camps and at least one club trip to a Surrey match at the Oval. Kit New club kit for all juniors will be introduced for the 2017 season as our existing kit is going out of production. Further details will follow in due course. Registration As in previous years, there are waiting lists for most age groups, so registration will take place in 2 stages. First, there is an existing members priority window, which ends on Sunday 8 January 2017. Thereafter, those on waiting lists for the U8s and older squads will be contacted and offered any available places. New members joining the U7s and Minis can register immediately applications for those squads will be accepted on a first come first served basis. As last year, to register just go to the club website (www.blackheathcc.co.uk). Existing members: Click on the Members button and enter your email address and password. All your details from last year are already stored, so just make any necessary amendments and proceed to the registration and payment pages. New members: Click on the Members button then I m a new member and follow the instructions. Subscriptions in 2017 are unchanged from 2016: 100 for U15-U9 squads ( 70 with younger sibling discount), 70 for the U8 squad ( 50 with discount), and 60 for the U7 squad, girls section and minis ( 40 with discount). These rates include all matches and summer training sessions.
