Burnaby Mountain Senior Men s Golf Club Page 4 Presidents Report Brian Strom We have just concluded our 48 th season, in this, my first year as president. It was a challenging year, but with such a dedicated team of Directors, Chairs and volunteers we managed to get through the year. I look forward to being more active and supportive in the 2019 season. Early in the season we were challenged by the weather, but once we got going it was a great year with many events over subscribed, thanks to all of you for your continued support. It takes a commitment from everyone to make the club thrive. Those that actively and selflessly give of their time to create the draws, to start the matches, to score the results and the many who participate in the weekly draws make the club a success. We are fortunate to be able to play regularly on a great course with good friends while enjoying excellent cooperation from Burnaby Golf Operations. Head Pro Greg McClure and his staff are always available to fine tune our skills. In closing I want to thank our Directors and Chairs for their efforts and support, Dennis Houle, Ron Pound, Robert Brisebois, Roy Murao, Lloyd Zimmerman, Silvano Padovan, Bruce Pearson, Lorne Lindsay and Chris Golding. Special thanks to Phil Boase and Don Buchannan. Don has organized the Kensington Par 3 tournament since its inception and has chaired the Prize Committee for the past 2 years. Phil records our pace of play, produces our Member Handbook and our newsletter, keeps track of our historical records and just about everything else we ask including the production of this report. Head Professional s Report Greg McClure What a year it was! 2018 turned out to be one of the best years for sunshine. It didn t feel like we had many days where you didn t wake up and instantly think of going to the golf course. The continued sanding program that Peter and Don have been implementing to help our drainage system running smoothly wasn t tested very much early on, but we are sure reaping the rewards now. After the huge downpours in November and December we had golf balls bouncing in the fairways the day after. You may have also noticed that the greens have been exceptional since September. We purchased two new mowers, and we have been receiving a stream of heavy praise for the quality of our greens since. We are now on off-season rates, and will continue to do so until well into the spring. Your support and continued play through this time is very much appreciated. If you are around the golf course this winter, keep using our ES15 launch monitors to track your progress. We suggest you start out by just paying attention to your club speed and ball speed. A simple trick if you are new to these machines is that your club speed helps you determine your potential for distance, where your ball speed is what is determining your distance now. Simply hitting the ball more in the centre of the club face will help you increase your ball speed instantly. The Pro Shop had another great year with Cutter&Buck and Under Armour leading the way. We are sure that either of these brands will be a great Christmas gift if you have someone left on your list. Our custom club fitting has been as popular as ever, and we must thank those of you who took the time to get fit by Alex this year. It is really an enjoyable experience for us to spend time with you guys and see some of the drastic changes we see with just a change in equipment. We continue to offer club fittings throughout the year, and February will be a great time to come and try the new products from Callaway and Ping for 2019. Unsung Hero Ken Parkinson, Club Photographer Ken has created many photos of our members and events dating back to 2008. He has dedicated many hours to photo-shopping the pictures into formats used in various publications and the website. The Club greatly appreciates your efforts Ken.
