Sponsorship Prospectus 2017 Prestige Performance Growth

What is Formula Sae? MUR MOTORSPORTS Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers) since 1979. Today more than five hundred teams compete across twenty major international events that crown year-long preparations and attract thousands of spectators. Each team designs, builds and tests a prototype open wheel race car for a fictional car manufacturing company with the non-professional weekend autocross racer customer in mind. Thank you for your interest in MUR, The University of Melbourne s racing and motorsport team. Each year this organization of top engineering students designs and manufactures an open wheel race car that consistently produces high levels of performance. We plan and create new concepts that continually push us further in future years, ensuring a strong and prestigious team not only in 2017, but in the years beyond. This vision of growth is embodied by our new MUR-Electric program. For the first time in the team s history, we will be producing two race performance vehicles at the Formula SAE competition in December 2017. Our concept of a fully electric, dual motor race car is currently unseen in any other Australasian team. As we enter the competition with an additional all-electric vehicle, we certainly plan on propagating our ongoing success onto this new challenge. Our goal for this year is to place first in the 2017 competition held in Melbourne in December, and lay the groundwork for future success in competitions both domestic and abroad. With the assistance of our key partners, academic mentors and corporate sponsors, we hope to win the Australasian competition with a one-two finish. Our success is not fuelled by ambition, skill and knowledge alone. The generous contributions provided our sponsors are an invaluable support that we are incredibly grateful for. We hope you will join us in bringing this vision of prestige, performance and growth to life. All the best, Luke Bofinger Team Coordinator Alan Mulally, Ford CEO Projects like these put students [who participate] two or three years ahead of students who don t Formula SAE encourages holistic and practical development of skills and knowledge Therefore, Formula SAE encourages holistic and practical development of skills and knowledge essential in contemporary automobile industry. By merging engineering abilities and commercial perspective, each team works through all stages of the product development cycle from research & design, manufacturing, testing through to finance and marketing.

The Team Our Vision Our vision is to become a world class leader in FSAE In everything we do, we believe in pushing the limits of design and innovation; we believe that engineering excellence should be the norm. The way we achieve this is by immersing ourselves in a diverse and multidisciplinary team structure which encourages ambition, drive and discipline. Our cars are the ultimate expression of these aspirations. The history of MUR over the past 15 years has placed the 2017 team in a position to set a bench mark for other Formula SAE teams to aspire to. We hope to inspire and motivate other teams with what we can accomplish. MUR will achieve this by continuing to create cutting edge concepts, and work hard to bring them to life. Ideas that we innovate and research will be applied in cars we have already laid the groundwork for, in preparation for events in the 2018 season and beyond. MUR Motorsports represents the University of Melbourne within the FormulaSAE competition. Our team was established in 2000 and has competed in the Australasian competition (FSAE-A) every single year since then. Since 2000, our team has continued to grow not only in size, but also in knowledge and capabilities. As an entirely student-run entity, we are responsible for every aspect of the project; from the design and manufacture of the race car to managing the business andfinance of the organization. The huge success of MUR Motorsports can be attributed to the development of a team comprised of bright students from various disciplines and expertise. We are currently ranked #1 amongst Australian universities, and #33 worldwide I maintain that the maxim is still to be faster than the others. You must always aim for future growth. Niki Lauda

Future Plans: 2017 & Beyond Future Plans: 2017 & Beyond This year will see MUR top the competition following the most significant development in our combustion vehicle yet the 2016 team laid down immense groundwork for us following guidance from previous years, and this year we are going to see our goals through. This year will also see MUR produce its first ever electrically-powered vehicle which will feature student- designed motor controllers, control systems, batteries, battery management systems, high-voltage electronics and sensor networks. Our team has already started research and development for the electric car from the start of 2016. With MUR producing both a combustion and electric car at the end of 2017, our team has doubled in size and student engagement has increased like never before. The following programs have been in place and will be further utilised in 2017 to aid us in achieving nationwide and worldwide recognition by the end of the year and into future years ahead. Junior Engineers Program MUR is growing rapidly having implemented its first ever Junior Engineer Program. This program is set in place to allow students to gain some experience in car design before commencing their final year. This has not only given the team greater momentum entering the 2017 season, but has also shifted the culture of MUR focusing more on knowledge transfer and mentoring. 2017 Goals Win FSAE-Australasia Achieve Top 5 Globally School Visits MUR plans to work closely with the Melbourne School of Engineering in hosting and visiting high school student groups throughout the year as part of our community involvement. We will welcome schools to visit our campus and tour our workshop and offices. Students will get an insight on the benefits of further educations and of what is offered in the field of Engineering in particular. MUR Alumni Club Most MUR members consider this project a lifetime investment, not just a final year project. Several alumni members continue to keep in touch with the current team, to ensure they start off on the right track and have access to any advice they may need along the way from those who have gone through the same motions firsthand. 2016 saw the lightest MUR car ever built with the following key features: Carbon fibre monocoque: To further reduce mass and effectively package the suspension and aerodynamic components on the combustion car. Tested new single cylinder turbo-charged engine: To improve competition performance by significantly reducing overall mass of the car so it can handle the narrower and tighter- cornered tracks seen at competition better. This achievement was only possible by building on the foundation of knowledge and skills developed within the team from previous years. Promoting Women in Engineering The MUR team sees an increasing number of highly capable female engineers join the team each year. This year, we will be encouraging the presence of women in engineering and increase awareness about the amazing contributions women have made to engineering.

Sponsorship Sponsorship Without the contributions we receive from our generous sponsors, MUR would not have achieved our current levels of success. Sponsors facilitate the design and manufacture of the vehicle and allow us to race under a globally-recognized brand. By becoming one of our industry partners, MUR can offer you: Access to Top Tier Graduates Becoming a sponsor will connect your business with some of the University of Melbourne s brightest and most talented students. It gives you the opportunity to lead with engineering and business students and to identify high achieving prospective employees. Access to the University of Melbourne The Faculty of Engineering often seeks our feedback regarding software and products when looking to innovate and expand. Having you as a partner will make us your advocate and will connect you to Australia s most prestigious University. Brand Exposure MUR has its own dedicated marketing team, responsible for enhancing the MUR brand and helping us to represent your name with respectand professionalism. Heightened brand and product visibility among University of Melbourne students, faculty and wider communities including high schools we visit. Positive media exposure through coverage of MUR at key events we attend or host: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix Melbourne Knowledge Week FSAE competition MUR seminars etc. Brand visibility on all MUR social media, official website, race car, uniform, and promotional material. Use of race car for display purposes and the team for promotional material.
