Please feel free to email details to me at nafairhurst@gmail.com Mytton Fold GC v Burnley GC Thursday 25th May The League Champions entertained Burnley GC at the Langho course in weather more suited to Monaco than the Blackburn area with the course presented in excellent condition although the ground staff were watering the 14 th and 16 th greens prior to play. At 11am all players stopped play and observed a minutes silence in memory of those lives so cruelly taken in the Manchester terrorist attack tragedy on Monday. First out for the home team were Nigel Fairhurst and past Captain Mick Bryan against big Seniors Captain of Burnley Steve Thorley (13) and Colin Weston (16). In an extremely close game it came down to the six shots the League Secretary had; making use of them on the 15 th green to reduce the deficit to one down and then doing the same on the 18 th for a great draw between the players. Club Captain Mick Mahon (21) alongside business partner Frank Hindle (13) could not hold David Owen (21) and John Schofield (18) losing out 2 & 1. David Owen chose to use a golf cart on the course complaining that Mytton Fold is
hilly...where do you play?? Lots of banter after the game on this decision and his weight! Ray Standring (10) again partnered Gordon Lucas (20) to record an excellent win against the ever reliable David Holland (10) and Ken Tattersall (13) 6 & 4. Steve Worrall (15) and Mick Kelbie (16) took on Martin Kemp (11) and Steve Marland (15). Unfortunately Steve Worrall was hit on the head with a golf ball during the early part of their round. Steve continued but had blurred vision and was unable to replicate his quirky club head position with the ball. Martin and Steve took advantage recording a 2 & 1 win. Big thank you to Burnley players who gave up their buggy to assist Steve. Captain elect Gary Ashton partnered again with Gary Toft scoring a resounding win against past Burnley GC Captain s Michael Bentley and Barry Spargo 8 & 6. Barry and Michael whilst the beaten pair; entertained the players in the garden whilst taking drinks with some great stories after the match. Garry Davies (16) and Dave Jackson (19) normally deliver at the Langho course but were upstaged by Alan Tafford (20) and John Ashton (20) who recorded a one hole win to claim the team win for Burnley GC. Longridge GC v GC Thursday 25th May Jeffery Hill enjoyed fantastic hot weather for the players from both teams with splendid views across the Ribble Valley. At 11am all players stopped play and observed a minutes silence in memory of those lives so cruelly taken in the Manchester terrorist attack tragedy on Monday. In the first match Club President Roger Cain (10) and Trevor Walker (12) defeated Wilpshire Club Captain Malcolm White (13) and Dave Griffith (11) 3 & 2, whilst in the second game Club Secretary Jim Clegg (19) and Bill Conn (11) lost to Ray Grimshaw (21) and Gerry Girvan (17) 3 & 1. The third game saw Dave Carling (12) and Gordon Edwards (14) lose out to Alan Henderson (10) and Nigel Grice (16) 3 & 1; whilst the likable Mike Catlow (12) and partner Eddie Shorrock (13) won 2 & 1 against Paul Hunter (9) and John Critchley (16). Adie Lewthwaite (10) and Mike Dennison (12) had a close win one up against Brian Stevenson (9) and John Wheeler (13). In the final game Alan Peterson (12) and George Hargreaves (13) defeated Dave Hawksworth (12) and Peter Earrey (21) 3 & 2. Tough competition with some very good individual performances ended in a 4 ½ to 1 ½ or 9 points to 4 win to the home side.
