. Kings River Gazette. Volume 6 Issue 6 The official publication of the June 2001 Father's Day Shootout By: Cole Chance Father's Day Shootout 2001 brought to you by Beanpot, Wind Dancer, and Longfeather. It might have been a warm day, but it was a good day for shooting. This month's shoot put on by these three individuals was an excellent example of a good, fun shoot with lots of different little twists. They had us running and yelling and carrying bags of gold and shooting golf balls and lots of other stuff. This was a really good match. Good job cowboys and lady! You did yourselves proud! I'd like to thank Eldorado Cole for donating the buggy to KRR. It makes a really nice addition to our range and adds a lot of realism to our place. The plans in preparation for Fort Miller 2001 are well under way. If you have any ideas for scenarios, please get them to me right away. Terrible Ted is putting on a work party Sunday to get Bay 6 in shape for Fort Miller. I'd like to encourage everyone to come out, come early, and let's get the work done. Who knows, the Mayor might buy cold drinks for everyone after the work is done. Buckskin and his able band of helpers have something really great planned for Bay 7. This project will be a great asset for our Fort Miller shoot. Wait till you see it- you'll be amazed. I'm going to have a day set aside to go to Range 8 to sight in our long range rifles for Fort Miller. Anyone that is interested in getting sight settings and are planning to shoot the Buffalo Shoot at Fort Miller, contact me. I should have the dates set within the next week or so. If you want to be included, you need to contact me and let me know, or you could get left out. This will probably be a one time deal as there aren't that many available days to go over there. So if you want to do this, don't miss your chance. Give me a call. If you are planning on shooting Fort Miller, please sign up as soon as possible. It helps with all the work involved like arranging posses and doing the scheduling. This isn't something that can be thrown together at the last minute. The earlier you enter, the easier it is for those who have to do all the work. Scenarios to Cole Chance, Madera Dave or any KRR Board Member, so they can be written up and reviewed for the shoot I know someone out there is just sitting on a really great idea, just put it into words and bounce it off someone, it could be the next hit scenario of Fort Miller. We've got some really neat props, just think about how you could use some of them and you'll have a scenario running around in your head before you know it We are going to sell raffle tickets this year, but it will be at the shoot only. Grand prize is Sharps Rifle. I hear it's a really nice gun and only shooters present at Fort Miller can buy tickets to win it June Match Directors Hot Doggy.... Don't new Regulator Snakebite look proud as can be???? Welcome Hew Members Slide Action Alias: Fields Cheyenne Dave Alias: David Salisbury Wind Dancer & Longfeatber These fine folks, known on the street as Betty and Bill Kulikov were one half of the team of match directors for June. They have been married for 41 years, have a daughter and a son and 7 grandchildren. Their cowboy shooting experience started at 5 Dogs Creek about 5 or 6 years ago, and a few months later they joined the KRR. I ask them how they came by their alias's, Bill originally started out as Sacramento, then he wanted to change his name to Short Rod, I left that one alone. Betty said she always liked the idea of an Indian character, and they finally settled on Wind Dancer and Longfeather, which were names they picked up from the old "Tool Time" TV show, both names appear in the shows credits. Their favorite out of town shoot is High Sierra, they make it a week long vacation every year. They also have a traveling companion, their kitty "Mickey" who goes to all the big shoots with them. Bean pot Beanpot, also known as J. R. Reid, was the other half of Sundays team. The golf, hole in one shot was his idea. He was in the Navy for 21 years, most of that time spent cooking. We've all had the pleasure of eating his tasty burgers etc. on several occasions. He says he also shot his first match at 5 Dogs. Then he and the rest of the founding fathers got together and the KRR was born. As for his name, Hank helped him out there, seems JR was wearing a coat that said Beanpot Cafe, Phoenix, Arizona on it and Hank said "Beanpot fits you real good for an alias". For away shoots he likes High Sierra and the John Wayne Shoot. His favorite gun is "any one I'm hitting with".
H E A R D ROUND THE CORRAL Cowboy golf, what a hoot. Tiger Woods better look out for the ":Jlofe in One (]ana': El Maestro, Gunsights, Hawkeye O'Riley, Longbranch, Michigan Bob, Nine Lives and Soapy Deal all got that little bitty ball in that barrel with their shotgun. Good golfing, that is gunnin' pards. I noticed that Eye Pinkerton wasn't with us this weekend, and when I ask brother Justice Loving if it was the heat that kept him away, he replied "Ya, I always was tougher than him". It's nice to see brothers this close. I heard that Buckskin, Cole Chance and Bear Paw cleaned the match Sunday, way to go. I think Wind Dancer should keep a closer eye on Longfeather. I caught him playing with the knockers on the door to Floozy's Place. Jessie Montana stepped up to the plate and adopted Bay 4, Rose's Cantena. She's got some good ideas on improving the property. Congratulations to Madera Dave's two new deputies, Michigan Bob and Coarsegold Kid. Their supposed to keep an eye open at the range and make sure everyone is safe. Now the big questions is who's going to watch these two?? Am I getting shorter, or has J L Hank just grown another 2 feet? Not only is the boy growing like a weed, but he finished in 12th place overall. Till next month, "shoot straight and be safe".
