MGA NEWS Steve Thibadoux presented a Treasurer s Report for the MGA during the August meeting. A portion of the 2018 membership dues ($2500) was received on 8/8/2018. The remainder of the dues owed us will be paid incrementally over the next couple of months. Keith Heidecker led our business discussion. No old business was identified. Gary Thompson made a motion for the MGA to purchase trash cans for the course. Jim Waldrop cautioned that we should discuss this with Andy and/or Tom Dickman before we do anything, and make sure it doesn t conflict with their plans. Keith said he would discuss it with them. The motion was approved pending discussions. The MGA monthly Skills Challenge was a putting contest on the practice green. Each challenger putted to one hole from 5 different locations. 10 challengers competed. Bill Shelton and Dwight Potter tied with six strokes. Bill won the playoff round. Bill won $45 and Dwight won $30. Bill Shelton also won the $85 raffle. (The winning ticket was selected by Bill s wife, Avonne!) Remember to add the Fall MGA Scramble to your calendar. It is scheduled for Saturday September 15th. There will be a great breakfast and tee-prize before we play and Jim will put the teams together for the scramble. There will be a sign-up sheet in the proshop and I am hoping for a big turnout. The next meeting will be Thursday September 13. Bridge Group We invite all members of the Club to come join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 10:00 AM to enjoy a great game of Bridge. If you would like join us on September 12 & 26, please contact the Club @ 256-355-4416. Wine Society We tasted Italian wines last month. Long time favorite wine rep, Lara, shared her extensive knowledge of Italy and her personal connections with many of the owners and winemakers of the selections she brought. We had reservations for 25 and had lots of fun tasting wine along with a nice selection of delicious cheeses, fruit and bread. We will have our annual Tailgate on the Patio September 14, weather permitting. Chef Jason is busy preparing our small plates to accompany the wines selected by Melissa for this fun tasting. Wear your colors or your wine tasting togs. Meet on the patio at 6:00 P.M. for social wine. There will be small plates for each wine. The cost is $30.00 per person. Please call BCC @ 256-355-5827 and make your reservations. Keith Heidecker, MGA President WGA NEWS We will be collecting $50 per person dues for Wine Society membership in October. If you would like to join and have never attended, you may come for one tasting before paying the yearly fee. See you on the patio! Lesley August was another slow month for WGA activities. Our Monthly game and luncheon scheduled for August 2, was cancelled due to the State Match Play being moved to Burningtree from Limestone Springs. On August 9 Valley Golf was held at Cherokee Ridge but our round was cut short due to a thunder storm. The evening of August 9, we met with the MGA for skills competition and dinner. I was the only WGA member to attend this event. I did not win but it was a fun time. We have had a couple of good attendance days for our pickup game on Thursdays. Hope to see you there for the remaining Thursdays. BOOK CLUB What a great discussion and fellowship we had at our August Book Club! We continue to add new faces to our group which just brings a lot of new energy and insightful discussion. Karen York will lead the discussion of THE FRIDAY NIGHT KNIT- TING CLUB by Kate Jacobs at our September 13th meeting. We invite you to join us at 6:00 P.M in the Private Dining Room (French doors in dining room). Please make your reservation so the Chef will know how many to prepare for. Call BCC @ 256-355-5827 Lesley September 6th will be our next game day and luncheon. Please try to attend as we have some important business to address, our Club Championship, which is scheduled for September 19-20. We have two more good months dedicated to golf with cooler weather coming. Hope to see you out on the course! Avonne T. Shelton BCC/WGA, President Movie by the pool! September 1st - Starting time is 6:30 pm Come out and have some fun!
