A life-long Spartan, Saxton earned three letters as a player before returning to campus in 1986 to assist legendary Spartan soccer coach Joe Baum with both the men s and the new women s program. Saxton was appointed the second head coach in the history of the women s program on June 1, 1991. In 26 seasons, Saxton s career record stands at 259-219-50 2008 saw Saxton lead MSU to one of its most successful seasons as the Spartans collected 14 wins - tying his career-high victory mark. Saxton also directed 2014 s squad to the NCAA Tournament for the third time since 2002, where the Spartans advanced to the second round. In 2009, the Spartans went 11-5-4 and posted a 4-4-2 record in Big ten Conference games, and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, losing an overtime heartbreaker to No. 11 Santa Clara. A two-time Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, Saxton, earned his 150th victory in the opening-round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament. It was MSU s first-ever NCAA Tournament win. Saxton s Spartans posted a 12-6-5 record in 2005, their sixth-straight season with double-digit wins, including a 6-2-2 mark in conference action, the team s best-ever Big Ten mark. He attained his 200th victory against DePaul in the 2011 opener. Saxton led Michigan State to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002, guiding the Green and White to a 12-7-2 overall record, including a 5-3-2 mark in the Big Ten. Thanks to their fourth-place finish in the tough Big Ten, the Spartans earned an at-large bid to the tournament. Saxton also won the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award in 1994, the conference s first season. That year, the Spartans finished with an overall mark of 12-5-2 and a 5-1-1 league record to take home the soccer program s only Big Ten Championship. 3 MICHIGAN STATE WHEN At home... 3-6-0 On the road...2-2-0 At neutral sites...0-0-0 At night...1-5-0 During the day...4-3-0 In non-conference games...4-3-0 In conference games...1-5-0 Vs ranked opponents...0-2-0 In OT games...0-1-0 In double OT games...0-0-0 When scoring first...5-1-0 When opponents score first...0-7-0 When leading at the half...3-0-0 When tied at the half... 2-2-0 When trailing at the half...0-6-0 When outshooting the opponent...2-2-0 When being outshot... 3-6-0 With more corner kicks...2-3-0 With fewer corner kicks...3-5-0 When being shutout...0-4-0 When scoring only one goal...1-3-0 When scoring only two goals...2-1-0 When scoring 3+ goals...2-0-0 When shutting out the opponent...2-0-0 When allowing one goal...1-2-0 When allowing two goals...2-1-0 When allowing 3+ goals...0-5-0 In August...2-2-0 In September...2-6-0 In October...1-0-0 In November...0-0-0
