TEST 01 BARCELONA Three months to the day after the end of the 2017 season, Formula One bursts back into life at the Circuit de BarcelonaCatalunya. All ten teams will assemble at F1 s favourite testing venue for two highly intensive weeks of pre-season testing, the only chance they will get to run their 2018 challengers before heading off to Melbourne and the always-critical seasonopening Australian Grand Prix. Just 92 days have elapsed since the chequered flag was waved in Abu Dhabi but in terms of the development cycle in F1, that s a lifetime. There are new chassis regulations, new tyres, new engines and ten completely new cars on display in Barcelona, including the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer RB14. With car development and build timed to the hour, many of the cars at the test won t have been seen by outsiders until they break cover on the first morning. It s incredibly exciting for us as much as for our guests! In the past, teams would have spent the whole winter shaking down their new cars, running every single day, perhaps with two teams working at different circuits, maybe on different continents. That s prohibited now, and testing is consolidated into eight days. It s fast, furious, and every second counts; and that s why Barcelona is the perfect venue. It s a circuit that provides a very firm examination, testing every aspect of car design: the car that s quick at the Circuit de Catalunya will be quick pretty much everywhere. What s good for us is good for our guests too: F1 tests here because of the logistics and the weather but the circuit also offers outstanding hospitality facilities, superb catering and a variety of excellent vantage points from which to watch the action on track. TEST 02 BARCELONA MARCH 6 TH - MARCH 9 TH If you really want to know what makes an F1 team tick, there really is no better experience than joining us at a pre-season test. On a race weekend, track time is limited to two, or at most three hours a day but our testing programme runs from dawn til dusk. You ll get to see and hear it all, witnessing the team as they work through a range of race simulations and qualifying runs, testing a variety of different bodywork configurations, mechanical settings and tyres. Of course, in pre-season we re testing more than just the new car: the crew will also be learning how to assemble and strip the RB14; they ll be getting to grips with new garage technology and redesigned pit equipment and rediscovering the rhythm of their pitstop routine. As with the car, everything has to be right before the race team heads out to Australia, making testing the perfect place to see everything. High-tempo it may be, but testing is also rather less intense than a race weekend. It s a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the new car, tour the garage and pitlane, watch the drivers at work with their engineers, and ask our experts questions about whatever catches your eye.
