HISTORY Illegally introduced in early 1970 s? First documented: 1976 South Umpqua/Cow Ck 1985: established in S.U. and lower Umpqua, occupied 208 miles of drainage, supported a fishery 1987 ODFW study verified distribution throughout Mainstem, South to above Tiller, and Cow Creek. 1991 & 1998 OSU study documented expanded distribution 1990 s: Extensive snorkeling didn t document in the Smith River, but there are many reported sightings by fishermen 1998: expanded to Calapooya Cr, Elk Creek, Lookingglass Creek, not found in Middle or WF Cow

MORE HISTORY 2007: 2 SMB over Winchester Dam Aug-Sept, occasionally observed in North 2011-12 ODFW repeated 1980 s distribution study, prelim results of 2011 bass/hour roughly the same: 43.8 (2011) vs 43 (1987) Spring E-boating difficult to accomplish Elk Creek diet/energetics study
