We have added numerous different and original special events for 2008. Be sure to keep an eye out for those as the year goes by. One of our newest special events is the Heart Healthy Happening. It is little twist on the holiday most associated with hearts Valentines Day! To learn more about this fun event see the information section below. Also be sure to read this whole newsletter so you can check out the other fun events we have planned just for you in the coming months. To make 2008 great we are going to need your help. We want to know what you want to see at the Senior Center. If you have any suggestions on programs or trip ideas please come talk to a staff member today! More Events in January Lost & Found Saleabration It seems that many folks like to leave things behind when they visit the Senior Center. Items that have gone unclaimed will now be available to all you bargain shoppers. Come check out all the treasures we have been keeping safe for years. You might just find something you thought was lost forever. DATE: January 29 TIME: 10 AM to 12 PM Red Peppers - Night at the Casino Test your luck at the tables and have a WILD time. All ladies are asked to wear their favorite evening gown for this glamorous night at the Casino. Dinner will be provided. RSVP by January 14th. DATE: January 18 TIME: 6 PM Red Pepper BINGO The Purple Cats are sharing one of their favorite traditions with us...monthly BINGO! The first Friday of every month will be Red Hat BINGO day. Bring a wrapped $5 gift, covered dish, and a smile. DATE: January 4 TIME: 11 AM Ms. Alvin Senior Pageant Information Session Did you always dream of being queen? Well now is your chance. The Alvin Senior Center is hosting the 2nd Annual Ms. Alvin Senior Pageant on April 19th at 6:30 PM. To learn more about what to expect during the pageant process and what to expect if you win the 2008 pageant. Special Events in February Great Day Houston It has been months since we have paid Whitney Casey a visit so we are heading back to watch the live taping of the Great Day Houston show. Reserve your spot by February 5th. DATE: February 12 TIME: 7 AM COST: $4 plus lunch PALS Dance Alvin High School PALS students will be sponsoring this months Senior Dance. Enjoy a free night of dancing and mingling with the outstanding PALS students. Refreshments will be provided. DATE: February 22 TIME: 9 AM COST: $5 plus lunch Friday Football Frenzy Super bowl Sunday is right around the corner but since we are closed on Sunday we are celebrating on Friday! Wear your team colors and enjoy the senior center s first ever fun filled Football Friday that is sure to get your pumped for the big game on Sunday. More Events in February L auberge Du Lac Every other month we go to the fabulous Coushatta Casino in Kinder, LA. But there is a new casino in the area and we think everyone should check it out! If you haven t already visited the beautiful L auberge Du Lac in Lake Charles, L.A. then this is your chance. We will stop for a snack in Winnie, TX on the way to LA and we will return to Alvin by 7:30 PM. Only 20 seats available so reserve your seat on the bus today! It doesn t matter what category you fall into we are celebrating St. Patrick s Day at the Senior Center with a Pot Lucky Leprechaun Lunch. More Events in March Easter Egg Hunt Last year we talked it over with the Easter Bunny and he has agreed to put us on his list every year. This year he will be hiding eggs around the Senior Center and sticking around to visit with everyone. Refreshments will be provided. DATE: March 20 TIME: 10 AM Coushatta The Irish seem to think March is a lucky month. Pretend you are Irish for the day and try your luck at Coushatta Casino in Kinder, LA. Bus departs from Stanton s parking lot. Limited seats, sign-up today. DATE: March 27 TIME: 7 AM COST: $5 Winery Tour Join us for a tour and tasting at Sugar Land s Circle S Vineyard. You will enjoy a guided walking tour of the winery operations and their bottling department followed by a tasting. DATE: March 25 TIME: 10:30 AM COST: $3 Red Peppers - Boliver Ferry Ride the ferry from Galveston to Boliver Peninsula and enjoy a scenic ride along the beach before returning for a yummy lunch at El Nopalito. Coming Up Next Quarter Ms. Alvin Senior 2008 Pageant This is not just a beauty pageant but rather an event that personifies the age of elegance, dignity, maturity, and the inner beauty of women 60 years young and up. The winner will represent the Senior Center in local events and continue on to compete in the state pageant. Dinner is served at 6:30 PM and the pageant begins at 7 PM. Show your support for all of these spectacular ladies. Limited tickets available so get yours today. DATE: April 19 TIME: 6:30 PM COST: $5 Cinco De Mayo Fiesta On this date in 1862 4,000 Mexican soldiers defeated the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 at Pueblo, Mexico. Lets celebrate the amazing victory of Cinco de Mayo with a FIESTA!!! Enjoy fun games and an authentic Mexican lunch. Sign-up today. Overnight Excursion Fredericksburg It s time for another stop on our tour of TEXAS. On this trip we are headed to Fredericksburg. Home of Texas wine, wildflowers and German food. During this excursion we will venture out on a Texas hill country wine tour. Stop by Wild Seed Farms to catch the blue bonnets in full bloom. Then take in some of the quaint downtown shops and enjoy a delicious German dinner at Auslanders. Price includes transportation and accommodations (double occupancy).
