AWARDS Medals are awarded First through Third Place (1 st 3 rd ). A total 56 sets of medals are required. FIREFIGHTER STEEPLECHASE The course of the Firefighter Steeplechase is 100 meters in length and incudes both obstacles and tasks. It requires the competitor in turnout coat and Hard Hat/Helmet to negotiate the obstacles and undertake a number of different Fire Service related tasks (refer PROCEDURES below) OFFICIALS: 1 Chief Judge 1 Assistant Chief Judge for Firefighter Steeplechase 6 Judges (one each separately at the start line, the lay-flat hose, the coiled hose, the bridge, the breaching, the Finish Line) 1 Head Timer 2 Timers 2 Score Keepers
FIREFIGHTER STEEPLECHASE 2019 Page 2 1 Announcer 1 Chief Registrar 2 Registrars 2 Starters PERSONNEL: 10 Volunteers 4 Safety Officials at each Bridge 2 on each side and 2 at each end of each Single Log Bridge. Minimum 4 volunteers who are responsible for the field recovery. 6 Helpers Note- there will 2 athletes competing in the steeplechase each time (2 race tracks) MEDICAL Emergency Medical Technician with equipment shall be present on-site. Basic medical supplies will be provided by the Host at the venue. Communications shall be available at each venue and preparations made in case it is necessary to summon emergency services. 1 AMBULANCE and 2 Medical Technicians from local hospital 4 Assistant medical officials (responsible for assisting first-aid and securing people s safety) FACILITY: A level, paved, straight, flat, wide course with ample room for the 100 Meter course, it is recommended 120 Meters long x 5 Meters wide (per lane) or other course approved by the WPFGF. GENERAL EVENT RULES Run 2 competitors at a time dual lane. Each Competitor/Team has one (1) Run.

Hose Roll 2 x 20 meter lengths of 65mm Lay-Flat fire hose Single-log Bridge: Timber Bridge 180mm wide x10 Meters long 1200 mm off the ground with 250 mm wide x 2 Meters long ramps with cleats at entry and exit from Bridge. The Bridge is to be placed between the 37 and 47 Meter marks from Start Line. (Refer Diagram) CONES 5 cones Breaching Piece Place a Fixed Breaching 65 Meters from the Start Line. (Refer to Diagram)
FIREFIGHTER STEEPLECHASE 2019 Page 4 Figure 2 Breaching Piece Hose: Four (4) 20 Meter 20 meter lengths of 65mm Lay-Flat fire hose complete with standard local couplings. Two lengths to be laid fat and straight side by side (parallel with each other) 500mm apart and out from the Start Line. (Refer Track Layout Diagram figure 1) and Two lengths to be tightly coiled and placed 38 Meters from the Start Line. Hard Hats/Helmets: Hard Hats/Helmets will be provided for competitors who must use them and be wearing the Hard Hat/Helmet at finish line. Starter's Pistols or Air Horns: One each for starter and stopper. BRACKETING Number Drawn System PROCEDURES The Competitor in turnout coat and helmet, carrying the nozzle, stands at the Starting Line. On the Starter s signal Roll the first length of hose( no specific way of rolling) and place it on the designated line(20 meters line) Return to the starting line to roll the second length of hose, Carry the both rolled hoses from the designated line (20 meters line) back to the starting line. Go around the signboard and go through 5 cones, run to the designated area(38meters line), Take the two tightly coiled lengths of hose (one in each hand) and carry them over the single-log bridge. Unroll both hoses.
FIREFIGHTER STEEPLECHASE 2019 Page 5 Connect the hoses together, Connect the nozzle, Connect the Hose to the Breaching Piece and Advance the Nozzle to the Finish line. Time stops when the nozzle reaches the FINISH Line. SCORING Lowest elapsed time is the winner. (Timing to 1/100 of a second) Team Times will be the aggregate (sum) of the times of the individual Team members Note- The Hose must be connected continuously between the Breaching Piece and Nozzle when the Competitor reaches the Finish Line PENALTIES Competitors will be disqualified if they either- Fail to compete any Section/Obstacle of the Event or Fail to wear the Hard Hat/Helmet at Finish Line or Fail to have the Hose connected continuously between the Breaching Piece and Nozzle when they reach the Finish Line or Fail to carry the 2 reels of rolled hoses from the designated line back to the starting line simultaneously or Fail to go around the Signboard. 10 second penalty if the cone is kicked down by a competitor. PRECISE RESULTS MUST BE FORWARDED TO THE HOST COMMITTEE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CONCLUSION OF THIS SPORT The WPFGF Director assigned to your sport is knowledgeable and experienced in providing assistance during the preparation and running of the sport. Questions, a detailed accounting of your preparations, and any area requiring approval of the WPFGF shall be submitted in a timely manner to this WPFGF Director. The WPFGF Directors want to work with you to make your sport a success. PLEASE USE THE WPFGF DIRECTORS AS A RESOURCE.
