News from the Superintendent With the growing season coming to a close and our normal summer maintenance schedules are changing to winter maintenance I want to give everyone an update on the projects that will take place over the winter months. Starting in December, we will be constructing a new bentgrass nursery in the fescue between 10 ladies tee and 11 green, roughly the same size as our 9 th green. The nursery will be maintained just like a green complex, and the turf will be used to repair any necessary areas on greens, tees, and fairways. The nursery will also allow us to remove any poa annua on the playing surfaces as well as replacing stress damaged areas, and damage caused by play. We will also continue with our winter tree work. This year we will be removing trees primarily to the left of 12 green and approach which will allow for improved growing conditions just like the work that improved 16 green last winter. There will also be tree work performed throughout the golf course with pruning and removals where deemed necessary. We will also be working on some tee boxes and fairways by either adding drainage or improving our existing drainage to remove standing water while improving turfgrass conditions. Lastly, we once again have covered the driving range tee with turf covers to aid in an early spring green-up due to the tee box having a hybrid bermudagrass on it so please use the winter tee that has been created in front of the covered tee. Hopefully, everyone can get in a few extra rounds over the winter, if so we ask that you please be sure to use the winter tees and replace your divots that are intact. If not make sure to use the sand from the bottles on the golf carts. See you on the Links. Derrick Hudson Golf Course Superintendent
