Afterwards, the Green and Gold travel to San Diego, Calif. to face five teams in the San Diego State Classic II. CSU will travel to Northern Colorado to face off at Jackson Stadium on Wednesday. The Bears and the Rams met on March 1, with CSU winning their home opener 10-2 in six innings. The Bears are currently in the midst of a nine game losing streak. Last week, Northern Colorado played a familiar foe of CSU s, Nebraska-Omaha, falling in each of the two games. Weber State enters San Diego after a weekend at the Fresno State Classic where the Wildcats faced two ranked teams, No. 24 Fresno State and No. 8 Washington. Weber State left the tournament with a 2-2 mark, making their overall record 13-9. Weber State and CSU have faced each other five times previously with Weber State holding the series lead, 3-2. Saint Mary s holds a 6-14 record entering the week, riding a three-game win streak. The Gaels beat Manhattan, UNLV and Southern Utah in their last three outings, following a five-game losing streak. Katie Moss and Lujane Mussadi split duties as starting pitcher, with each holding a 3-6 overall record. Harvard arrives to the classic after playing seven teams in the Loyola Marymount Tournament in Los Angles and they hold an overall record of 7-5 going into the week. Rihanna Rich holds a.517 batting average on the team, posting ten runs, 15 hits, one double, two triples, one homerun, four RBIs, and a.793 slugging percentage. Rich was honored with the Ivy Softball Rookie of the Week on March 2 for her performance in Harvard s first weekend of play in the JU Green and Gold Classic where she posted two hits in four games and finished 9-for-16 with two ripples and a homerun for four runs. The Crimsons and the Rams have met once before on March 15, 2013 and Harvard took the win 4-3. UC Santa Barbara is 13-10 overall, but will arrive in San Diego after dropping its last two games. Prior to the two losses, however, the Gauchos had won 7-of-8 contests. The Rams and Gauchos have met three previous times, with UCSB holding a 2-1 series lead. UCSB returned seven starters from a 2015 squad that went 34-20 and finished tied for second in the Big West last season. Princeton is 3-9 in 2016, and will play three games between Tuesday and Wednesday prior to arriving in San Diego. Most recently, the Tigers lost three games at the Long Beach State-hosted tournament March 12-13. The Tigers hold a 3-2 series lead over the Rams all-time. FISHER S THOUGHTS On playing Northern Colorado for the second time this season... I think we are ready to go. They always play us really tough at their home, so we ve got to get things done; pitch well, play good defense and score runs. We will have to be mentally tough about any situations that may come up. On how the team is different now compared to the start of the season... I think they ve definitely grown in their confidence with each other. They re more competitive and tougher than they were when we started. You always have to balance how tough you schedule with pushing them past the breaking point. We ve accomplished what we ve needed to so far with our nonconference play. Once we get into conference, everybody will be playing tough. We re better now than when we started the season. We know our strengths and we know what we re trying to do. We re pretty young overall, and we are starting to learn the game better. On the team s strong on base percentage... We talk a lot about having team at-bats and getting on base any way we can. Something we take a lot of pride in is on base percentage. The kids know we ve got to score to win, and we need to be on base to do that. That game against Idaho State (March 5) where we hit four home runs and still lost kind of epitomized that. We have big hitters that can come through, but we have to have runners on base. Throughout the last home weekend, we realized we can have big innings and come back from being behind. MW PRESEASON POLL 2016 MOUNTAIN WEST STANDINGS Place Team (First-Place Votes) Points 1 Fresno State (8) 64 2 San Diego State (1) 57 3 San Jose State 49 4 New Mexico 34 5 UNLV 31 6 Utah State 28 7 Colorado State 27 8 Nevada 26 9 Boise State 8 2 2016 Colorado State Softball

COLORADO STATE NOTES On the team s offensive depth throughout the lineup... We ve been trying to get that momentum and trying to swinging the bat hard at good pitches. That s something that I ve definitely been looking for. Last year, the team was waiting for someone else to step up, instead of taking it on themselves. I think they re starting to take more responsibility and stepping up themselves. We definitely saw some really good pitching early on. It s a mental thing too, if we can get on base it can get contagious. I was talking to my friend Jerry Schemmel (850 KOA Colorado Rockies radio), and he said that baseball is contagious. I thought that statement was so true; it s contagious, whether it s hitting or pitching or running the bases or anything. If we can all catch that power disease, that would be really, really good. HUTTON NAMED MOUNTAIN WEST SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK (MARCH 8) Colorado State junior shortstop Haley Hutton has been named Mountain West Softball Player of the Week on March 8. The award was the second of Hutton s career. She was previously Mountain West Player of the Week on April 8, 2014. Hutton led the Rams to a 4-1 record during the week, boasting an on base percentage of.750 over the five-game stretch. She also had a batting average of.643 and a slugging percentage of 1.429, totaling nine hits and 20 total bases. Hutton had four triples, all coming in the Colorado State Classic this weekend. She also had an inside-the-park home run against Idaho State on Saturday, the first homer of that kind by a Ram in nearly a decade. The home run was Hutton s first of the season and came in lead off fashion in the bottom of the first inning. Hutton scored eight runs and drove in five more for the week. She leads the Rams with 19 runs scored this season. HUTTON CHASING RECORDS CSU junior shortstop Haley Hutton is already one of the Rams most efficient offensive players of all-time, and when her career is over, she may have legendary statistics. Currently, Hutton ranks first in school history in batting average (minimum 250 career at-bats) at.400, 18 points higher than second all-time. Hutton also has 79 career bases on balls, which ranks fourth and is 10 off the all-time record. REINKE IN CHARGE Senior Holly Reinke, CSU s ace pitcher, ranks second in the Mountain West in innings pitched (70.0) and third in opposing batting average (.232). Reinke also boasts an ERA of 2.90 and has 43 strikeouts, including 23 struck out looking (first in the league). Reinke allowed only one hit with no walks in CSU s five-inning 9-0 win over Portland State on Feb. 19, and has pitched nine complete games with two shutouts. PRODUCING AT THE PLATE Despite having just the seventh-best batting average in the Mountain West, the Rams rank second in on base percentage at.391. The efficiency stems from having the second-most walks in the league, and has resulted in CSU ranking second in both runs scored (108) and team RBIs (99). CSU has also collected 13 total home runs across 10 different players so far. All-Time CSU Career Batting Ave. (min. 250 at-bats) 1. Haley Hutton, 2014-Pres..400 2. Teri Klement, 1988-91.382 3. Christine Thomsen, 2009-10.377 4. Ricki Walker, 2002-04.368 5. Jessica Strickland, 2004-07.367 Holly Schmillen, 1998-01.367 Sarah Fredstrom, 1995-98.367 All-Time CSU Career Base on Balls 1. Holly Schmillen, 1998-01 77 KILCREASE IS KILLING IT Sophomore center fielder Madison Kilcrease has been excelling at the plate and on the basepaths lately, and that was no better represented than her game against Northern Colorado on March 1. Kilcrease went 3-for-3 with a walk, 4 RBI, one run scored and three stolen bases. Her on base percentage has jumped up to.447 (eighth in the Mountain West), and she leads the Mountain West in walks (ninth NCAA) with 19. Her 13 RBIs is also tied for the team lead with Savannah Clark. STEALING THE SHOW The Rams run production has improved as the season has gone along, and one of the biggest reasons why is the quality base running by the team. CSU leads the Mountain West in stolen bases with 22, and six against Northern Colorado on March 1. Sophomore Madison Kilcrease accounted for three of those six steals (her first three of the season). Junior Haley Hutton also leads the league individually with 10 stolen bases. WHAT DO ADVANCED STATS SAY? Haley Hutton leads the Rams in Runs Created (28.70) and Runs Created per 7 innings (17.22). Hutton also leads in OPS (1.276), followed by Amber Nelson (1.069) and pitcher Holly Reinke (.958), meaning that Reinke is taking advantage of opportunities to produce her own run support. Reinke also boasts an impressive WHIP of 1.29, which ranks in the top tier of Mountain West aces. While Hutton leads the team in batting average and on base percentage, it s Reinke that actually leads in BABIP (batting average on balls in play - excludes home runs and strikeouts) with a.529 mark. Kristina Akiona is hitting a respectable.322 on the season, but has really stepped up when it s mattered most. With runners in scoring position, Akiona is hitting.450 (9-of-20) and with the bases loaded, she is hitting.600 (3-for-5). RAMS PICKED SEVENTH IN MOUNTAIN WEST PRESEASON POLL The Colorado State Rams were picked to finish seventh in a tight Mountain West by the league s coaches. CSU totaled 27 points, just seven points off from fourth-place New Mexico. Fresno State received eight of nine possible first-place votes to be tabbed as the league favorites, with San Diego State garnering the other first-place vote in second. A LOOK BACK AT 2015 CSU finished the 2015 season with a 27-29 overall record and went 8-16 in the Mountain West, placing seventh among the conference. The record broke the three year span of finishing above.500 since Head Coach Jen Fisher s start. Despite the missed mark, the Rams still recorded great plays and notable feats. CSU played against four ranked teams and against three teams receiving top 25 votes. With tough competition, the Rams played admirably, like the game against 15/14 Minnesota where they led through the sixth inning. In March, the Green and Gold began their 11 game win streak, starting when the team swept their opponents in their home tournament. The 11 game win streak was the program s longest since 2003 and the fourth-best ever. Against San Jose State, the top hitting team in the Mountain West last season, Colorado State shut them out in back-to-back contests on April 2 and 3. It was the first time CSU has posted back-to-back shutouts since 2013, and the first time the Rams have done it on the road since 2003. CSU posted two record shattering statistics in 2015, showing their patience on the bases and at the plate. The Rams posted the second most stolen bases (61) and the most walks (224) in program history. Of course, none of the above could be possible without the individuals on the team. An incredible individual feat was by the hand of Molly Randle, who on Feb. 14 against IPFW posted the first no-hitter for the Rams in 2010. Other unique feats include ten Rams who led in the Mountain West in 17 different categories.. 3 2016 Colorado State Softball

COLORADO STATE NOTES MEET THE NEWCOMERS The Rams have seven new players on their roster this year, adding diversity not only on the field, but in skill level too. Below shows who the new faces are and where they come from. Kristina Akiona Transfers to CSU from Hawai i where she posted two multiple RBI games as a junior and was a 2015 UH Scholar In Athlete. Hayleigh Evans Moves from Creighton to CSU after playing in 17 games and earning a spot on the Big East All-Academic Team while playing for the Blue Jays. Lauren Buchanan Posted the Kansas state RBI career record in 2012-15 and graduated fifth among her class overall with Bishop Carroll Catholic high school.
