I<JNGS RIVER GAZETTE Volume 9, Issue 2 The official publication of the Kings River Regulators February 2004 Red Shirt Gang Rides Again! bv Slick Rock Rooster The day after Valentine's Day, no wind or rain, just sunshine, the perfect Sunday for a shoot. Match director Rogan Steele did us proud and composed a great challenging match that no one shot clean. Joaquin Rivers' silver is safe for another month. The red shirt gang was on every stage testing our shooting skills and giving some of us more problems than we really needed. Rogan is to be congratulated for his match organization. His stages were well written; approximately the same length and he provided a list of materials for each bay for match set up. This makes set up go almost too fast. Great job cowboy! Kudos to Deadly Tedley for overall first place. He has the fastest of all red hands in KRR. He says he gave Dance Hall Debbie his red hands for Valentine's Day. Salutes to our new shooter, Orosi Kid, who had three clean stages on his first match. He said he had a lot of fun and a great time. It was good to see some shooters return that had been away for a while~ Nine Lives -welcome back. Visitors from the Hollister area, Redbone Rufus and Tres Pinos, came to have fun with all of us. Where was Two Toe Bill Quickshot after the match? I have two broken guns for him to repair. He is the best gunsmith in the area. Bill McSheehy 559-298-8812. Bill can do wonders on cowboy guns. He can also shoot them extremely well. T 0 Slo and Crusty Jim have volunteered or been sentenced to take over Bay 3 (the mine) from Tedley. We hope they can make that sluicebox and barrel hold water in the future. Papa Willie and Tombstone Bubba have been sentenced to Bay 4. They may solicit help from Orosi Kid. Practice at FRPC Range One - Members ofkrr who are also members offrpc may practice on Range One Bay Two. Your membership card must be signed by the mayor for FRPC range personnel to allow you to shoot. If you practice on Range One, you are expected to pick up after yourself Leave the range better than you found it. Those not following the rules will be terminated. Those shooters interested in taking either ROI or ROil class contact Snakebite via e-mail. Snakebite4767@yahoo.com. -SRR Chicken Buyer (see col. ~ ---+) Thanks to February Match Director, Rogan Steele for a job well done. This is Rogan's second year as a KRR member. He was assisted by Posse Leaders Hawkeye O'Riley, Longbranch, and Slick Rock Rooster. Some time last week Rooster JR and Slick Rock Rooster ventured to COSCO to replenish the pantry with beans, rice and s uch. They were planning on getting something for dinner that evening. SRR spies already roasted chickens sitting under warming lights and decides that there is dinner already cooked. So he grabs one of those chickens and puts it in the cart with the rest of the supplies. After arriving home, putting the supplies away, and storing the chicken in the microwave to keep it warm, it was time to prepare dinner. Miss Meme, SRR's better half, asked SRR to come cut up the hen. Slick Rock takes the hen from the oven and puts it on the cutting board. He then begins to carve the chicken into serving size pieces. He suddenly discovers he has purchased a chicken with only one leg. Miss Meme begins laughing. "Only you could buy a one legged chicken." They named the chicken Hoppy.... and we elected this fellow as our Mayor? SHOOTING TIME (Winter Hours) SHOOTERS' MEETING- 9:30A.M. SHOOTING STARTS- 10:00 A.M. Kings Rit r Gazelle 1
Winter Range Territorial Governor's report. Howdy pards. The TG meeting at Winter Range, the SASS Nationals yielded some more good-bad discussion. I sure hate to throw dissension into the TG process, but some of these TGs just can 't seem to leave things alone. Now remember, that for the most part these are just items for discussion and are NOT new rules.... at least not yet! First off, some yo-yo wants to combine the Frontier Cartridge and Frontier Cartridge Duelist into a single "Duelist" only category. The Frontier Duelist has been on the books for only 10 months, and now they want to make it the ONLY BP cartridge category!! I don't think so. Next, there are some proposals for even more categories. The Military shooting category. This of course requires military dress. It didn't seem to be as pure as the reenactors are in their dress codes, but very similar. Then there is the "B" Western or Silver Screen or "Reel" Cowboy category. This should be interesting, since it covers everything from William Hart (real cowboy dress) to Too Wong Foo with his pink tu-tu... kinda sounds like the existing general dress code to me. How about the combining of the Modem category into the rest of the categories? This one seemed to have a lot of support. Then there is a very novel idea. Someone brought it up at the Summit, and now it has surfaced at WR, so it must have legs... A Buckaroo category, which would use 22s and 41 Os. Ever hear of something like that before??? I threw out the name Goat Ropers at the Summit and some members of the WB liked it. I told them we had been doing such a program for years. There are changes coming to the "Classic" category. Expect the requirement for Chaps, spurs, rowels to be added. This category was intended to be "Classic Cowboy", not Classic Soldier, or Classic Townsperson, or Classic Indian, or Classic Spaceman, though it has been infiltrated by ALL of these including Classic Baseball team... and what's worse, they were allowed! I think the spin off Classic's are a result of tightening up of the "Classic" category. Does anyone remember what this game is called? If not, let me remind you, it's COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING. The secret word here is COWBOY! The DQ forward rule was explained. This is not anything that was_voted on,itis so~ ing that "they" put into place. [t says that if you are DQ ed at any point, that you are done from that point forward. That applies to the side matches too. If you drop a gun on Wednesday at a side match at EOT, you are finished! Forget the $255 entry fee, the ammo, the motel room, the flight from New Jersey, the new cloths, the time off work, boarding the dog, a house sitter, and get ready to spend more time visiting with aunt Beth who lives somewhere in the LA area. Yep, this STUPID rule has been put into place by???? It has a whole bunch of folks upset. Wbo in their right mind would travel to a big shoot and participate in a side match if he had a chance of being ejected from the entire event? Not me. T doubt if this rule survives. The RO T and 11 course material is being upgraded. This plus the fact that I have been unable to secure a second instructor, as required by SASS, might delay the proposed RO II class a month or two. The requirement for having two instructors has merit. It helps to keep things the same, and also helps to keep the instructors "PERSONAL" opinions from being taught as "F AC". We've all seen that before. So, that's about it from the WR TG meeting. See ya all down the road. -Snakebite From the Pokey You make the call. The scenario. Double tap rifle sweep of five targets. Shots 1 and 2 are hits, shots 3 and 4 are hits, shots 5 and 6 are hits, shot 7 is a hit, shot 8 hits the dirt 10 feet above the target, and shots 9 and I 0 are hits. What is the miss count? - I would score this as a clean sweep. I don't believe there is anyway the shooter pulled his rifle off line 10 feet on the number 8 shot. It probably was an edge hit and a ricochet. In this case, the question should go to the shooter. As counters we need to look at things a little differently. Are we absolutely sure the shooter missed the target? Jfwe can't say, "I know he missed it" then it's a hit. Match directors, please email me your scenarios and RO lists at least a month prior to your match. Next month... To kibitz or not to kibitz. -Ramrod Kings RiUJr Gaiftle 2

Ma's Musings Our Blacksmith, Sierra, wants to thank everyone who showed up for the work party on January 31. There were more than 20 folks helping out to get the water line in for the shade area and the wire run for the electric. Special thanks to Buckskin for the electrical work and to the Orosi Kid for the doughnuts. You know, for a brand new member, the Orosi Kid is sure getting his name out there a lot - he won the free shoot for February's match and then cleaned 3 stages! And he was seen consulting with his red shirt sidekick- I wonder who was giving advice here?
