The game was tied 2-2 after an inning and a half, and neither team would score again until a walk-off double from Syracuse s Caleb Ramsey ended the game in the bottom of the 10 th inning. The Bats fell to 29-29 on the season and 18-11 on the road. LOU also fell to 10-6 in one-run ballgames, still owning the third-best record in those games, behind Columbus and Charlotte. The Bats have lost three straight and seven of their last eight. If the Bats lose on Wednesday, they will match their season-high four game losing streak, which occurred on both May 18-20 vs. Scranton Wilkes-Barre and Columbus, and May 31 June 3 vs. Toledo and Rochester. IT S A LONG REED: The Bats will look to snap their three-game skid with left-hander Cody Reed (4-3, 3.31) on the mound. Last time out, he gave up five earned runs on nine hits in a home start against Rochester, both season highs. He walked three and struck out five in a five inning loss. He s also given up grand slams in back-to-back starts, becoming the first LOU pitcher to give up multiple grand slams in a season since Josh Judy in 2012. Syracuse will counter with right-hander Jaron Long, who will be making his first Triple-A appearance since he started for Scranton Wilkes-Barre on July 6, 2015, when he gave up four earned runs on seven hits in a four inning loss. He s the son of current New York Mets hitting coach, Kevin Long. YESTERDAY S PITCHING: Right-hander Keyvius Sampson (2-1, 1.88) struggled early in his sixth start of the season, giving up two runs in the bottom of the first before settling in. His final line was six innings pitched, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out five. He still owns the best ERA on the staff for pitchers who have gone at least 20 innings. RHP Steve Delabar pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a hit while walking two and striking out three. It snapped a rough two-game stretch, posting an 8.10 ERA (3 ER in 3.1 IP). Right-hander Stephen Johnson pitched one and two-thirds innings, eventually giving up the walk-off double in the 10 th to fall to 0-3 on the season. It was the second straight game a LOU reliever got the loss (Matt Magill, 6/6). FREE BASEBALL COSTS BATS: Louisville played in their seventh extra inning game on Tuesday night, a 10-inning affair with the Chiefs. LOU is now 5-2 in extra innings, still good for the third-best winning percentage (.714) among IL teams in those games, behind only Scranton and Charlotte. It was the first Bats extra inning game since May 27, a 6-4 win in 11 innings at Lehigh Valley. LOU is now 2-1 in extra inning road games, and 3-1 in extra inning games at home. FIVE HUNDRED AND 4 GB: The Bats have fallen to.500 on the year, 29-29. It s the first time LOU has been exactly.500 since April 25, when they were 8-8. LOU is also four games back of the International League West Division lead, behind both the Columbus Clippers and Indianapolis Indians. The last time LOU was four games back of the division was May 22, after they lost to Columbus 8-6 in 10 innings. They re going into play on Wednesday with a chance to fall below.500 for the first time since April 24 at 7-8. With a LOU loss and COL win on Wednesday, the Bats would be 5 GB of the division for the first time all season. MEJIAS-BREAN STREAK ENDS: Third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean had his nine-game hitting streak snapped on Tuesday, going 0-for-1 in his only plate appearance, as a pinch hitter. He flied out hitting for Delabar in the bottom of the ninth inning, moving Carlos Triunfel to third base. Mejias-Brean has still hit safely in his last nine starts. LOU pinch hitters on the year are now hitting.267 (4-for-15) with RBIs from Triunfel and Jermaine Curtis. B.A. s BBs: Louisville first baseman Brandon Allen drew two walks last night, scoring one of the Bats two runs on a Raffy Lopez RBI single. In his last eight games, Allen has only hit.192 (5-for-26), but has drawn seven walks. Since May 29, he leads all International League hitters in drawing base on balls, with no other IL hitters matching his seven. His OBP in that span is.364. Six batters have drawn six walks since 5/29, including SYR s Matt Skole, who has drawn two walks in the series. SCOTTY 2 HOTTY: Bats outfielder Scott Schebler went 3-for-5 with his seventh double of the season last night, continuing his recent hot stretch. In June, he s hit.435 (10-for-23) with two doubles, two homers, three RBI, and a pair of walks. His June OPS is 1.263. On the season, he has more three-hit games (4) than two-hit games (3). He came into June with a batting average of.200 (16-for-80), raising his average by 52 points (he s now 26-for-103) in just six games. POLAR OPPOSITES: Despite the 3-2 loss on Tuesday night, the Bats are 18-11 on the road and 11-18 at home. The 18 road wins are second-most behind only Lehigh Valley, with 19. The Bats still have the best road winning percentage (.621) in the IL, with LHV in second place with a.594 road winning percentage. LOU is the only team in the IL West Division with a road record above.500.
